The paper reports on the investigation of single Ca/sup +/ ions and crystals of Ca/sup +/ ions confined in a linear Paul trap. These are also investigated for quantum information processing. Recent experimental advancements towards a quantum computer with such a system are also discussed.

Quantum information processing with trapped Ca + ions

S. Gulde, Hartmut Häffner, Mark Riebe +6 more

Quantum information processing is performed with single trapped Ca(+) ions, stored in a linear Paul trap and laser-cooled to the ground state of their harmonic quantum motion. Composite laser-pulse sequences were used to implement SWAP gate, phase gate and controlled-NOT gate operations. Stark shifts on the quantum-bit transitions were precisely measured and compensated. For a demonstration of quantum information processing, a Deutsch-Jozsa algorithm has been implemented using two quantum bits encoded on a single ion.

A scheme to implement the Deutsch-Josza algorithm on a superconducting charge-qubit quantum computer*

Huo Wenyi, Long Guilu

Abstract We have studied the implementation of the Deutsch-Josza quantum algorithm in a superconducting charge-qubit quantum computer. Different from previous studies, we have used the indcutance coupled system of You et al. The detailed pulse sequences have been designed for the four possible functions in a 2-qubit system. The result is generalized to an arbitrary n-qubit system. This scheme will be useful for practical implementation of the algorithm. Supported by the National Fundamental Research Program (Grant No. 001CB309308), National Natural Science Foundation of China (Grant Nos. 10325521, 60433050), the Hang-Tian Science Fund, and the SRFDP program of Education Ministry of China.
