Abstract

Abstract Persistent currents in mesoscopic rings or cylinders are very sensitive to non‐classical properties of the driving magnetic flux. In the paper we investigate the influence of the quantum and classical noise on the properties of currents. We also study the current characteristics in the presence of maximally entangled states (Bell states) of the non‐classical electromagnetic field. (© 2005 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)

Persistent currents controlled by non-classical electromagnetic fields

Jerzy Dajka, E. Zipper

Mesoscopic systems and the non-classical electromagnetic fields are of central importance for quantum information processing. Our aim is to present the significant impact of the non-classical radiation on the properties of persistent currents. We study mesoscopic rings or cylinders subject to both classical and non-classical magnetic flux. Our discussion is limited to oneand two-mode fields prepared in a given state. For the monochromatic radiation we study reduction of the current amplitude due to the quantum and classical noise in the field. We also present the change of the sign of the current from parato diamagnetic (and vice versa) controlled by the state of radiation. The effect of temperature will by shortly reviewed. There are two qualitatively distinct classes of two-mode fields: separable and entangled. This is reflected in the properties of the currents which become time-dependent for the fields in an entangled state. We investigate the effect of entanglement for the family of states with various amount of entanglement: from separable to Bell states quantified by the concurrence.

Currents in a Quantum Nanoring Controlled by Non-Classical Electromagnetic Field

Jerzy Dajka

Quantum ring accommodating interacting spin-less fermions threaded by magnetic flux with a non-classical component added to a static, inducing persistent current, is considered. It is investigated how current flowing in the ring becomes affected by a state of non-classical flux and how Coulomb interaction between fermions influences entanglement of quantum ring and the driving field. In particular it is shown that in an absence of decoherence and under certain conditions fermion-fermion interaction is necessary for a ring-field entanglement to occur.

Decoherence in flux qubits on mesoscopic nonsuperconducting rings

Marcin Kurpas, Jerzy Dajka, E. Zipper

Abstract The problem of decoherence in recently proposed flux qubits built on mesoscopic normal metal rings is studied. The relaxation and dephasing times coming from the interaction of the qubit with the measuring device are calculated within the weak coupling spin‐boson model. We analyze the effect of the measuring apparatus on the relaxation and dephasing times. The possibility of ohmic approximation for the bath is investigated. Considerably long decoherence times are found. The work is limited to the weak damping regime in low temperatures. (© 2007 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)

Persistent currents in the presence of nonclassical electromagnetic fields

Jerzy Dajka, M. Szopa, Apostol Vourdas +1 more

Persistent currents in mesoscopic rings and cylinders threaded by a magnetostatic flux and also by monochromatic nonclassical electromagnetic fields are considered. The results depend on the quantum state of the nonclassical electromagnetic fields. It is shown that quantum and thermal noise in the field reduces the current and can change its character from diamagnetic to paramegnetic, and vice versa. Four different examples of nonclassical electromagnetic fields are considered (number eigenstates, coherent states with randomized phase, coherent states, and thermal states) and the corresponding currents are calculated. Two-mode entangled electromagnetic fields are also considered, and the effect of entanglement on the currents is studied.

Entanglement of flux qubits through a joint detection of photons

Marcin Kurpas, E. Zipper

Abstract We study the entanglement creation between two flux qubits interacting with electromagnetic field modes. No direct interaction between the qubits exists. Entanglement is reached using the entanglement swapping method by an interference measurement performed on photons. We discuss the influence of off‐resonance and multi‐photon initial states on the qubit–qubit entanglement. The presented scheme is able to drive an initially separable state of two qubits into an highly entangled state suitable for quantum information processing (© 2009 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. The influence of entangled photons on distant persistent currents

Jerzy Dajka, Apostol Vourdas, S Zhang +1 more

The correlations of currents flowing in mesoscopic rings induced by both classical and quantum correlations of photons have been considered. The system of two and three rings in the presence of three types of non-classical radiation, factorizable (uncorrelated), separable (classically correlated) and entangled (quantum mechanically correlated), has been studied. The results show that entangled photons can produce entangled electrons.
