Abstract

Recent experiments with an electrostatically gated structure demonstrated coherent oscillations, involving all three spins of a linear triple dot system. In a combined experimental and theoretical study, we demonstrate coherent doublet/doublet exchange oscillations, leading to arbitrary rotation on the relevant Bloch sphere, and we reveal an interplay between exchange and hyperfine-driven ``double coherent beam splitter'' oscillations.

Coherent Control and Manipulation of Three Spin States in a Triple Quantum Dot

Andy S. Sachrajda

The triple quantum dot energy level spectrum is far more complex than its double quantum dot counterpart. As a result it is a challenge to cleanly manipulate only the two required qubit states without invoking more complex multistate coherent evolution. In this talk I will describe experiments and modeling of lateral triple quantum dot devices where by suitable device gate (i.e. energy level spectrum) tuning and pulse characteristics we were able to characterize and manipulate various three spin qubit species. In particular I will describe measurements where the Landau-Zener –Stuckelberg approach previously demonstrated in double dots is extended to threeinteracting spin states permitting us to demonstrate phenomena such as pairwise exchange control. I will also demonstrate how by tuning the experimental parameters one can controllably switch to coherent oscillations originating from alternative potentially useful qubit states and how to distinguish them.

Three-spin coherent oscillations and interference

Gabriel Poulin-Lamarre, J. Thorgrimson, Sergei Studenikin +5 more

We utilize magnetic field dependencies to identify two hitherto unobserved quantum interference processes in a triple quantum dot circuit. The first observation involves the interplay of Landau-Zener-St\"uckelberg behavior from two separate anticrossings between two energy levels that anticross twice as a function of a detuning parameter. The second process involves quantum interference between all-exchange and hyperfine qubits activated in a three-spin system.

Coherent manipulation of three‐spin states in a GaAs/AlGaAs triple dot device

Sergei Studenikin, G. C. Aers, Ghislain Granger +5 more

Abstract In this paper we describe our recent experiments on coherent manipulation of electron spin states formed in a highly tunable GaAs/AlGaAs triple quantum dot device. The coherent evolution of spin states is achieved by using fast pulses from an initialization point in the (201) charge configuration region of the stability diagram. We demonstrate the versatility of the triple dot system capable of tuning to different regimes controlled by the width of the (111) region and pulse parameters. In particular we observe Δ'1/2‐Q3/2 (analogue of S‐T+ in a double dot) and Δ'1/2‐Δ1/2 exchange driven oscillations from both sides of the stability diagram involving all three spins. Spin qubits in double and triple quantum dots

James Medford

This thesis presents research on the initialization, control, and readout of electron spin states in gate defined GaAs quantum dots. The first three experiments were performed with Singlet-Triplet spin qubits in double quantum dots, while the remaining two experiments were performed with an Exchange-Only spin qubit in a triple quantum dot.

Spin blockade and coherent dynamics of high-spin states in a three-electron double quantum dot

Bao-Bao Chen, Bao‐Chuan Wang, Gang Cao +6 more

Asymmetry in a three-electron double quantum dot (DQD) allows spin blockade, when spin-3/2 (quadruplet) states and spin-1/2 (doublet) states have different charge configurations. We have observed this DQD spin blockade near the (1,2)-(2,1) charge transition using a pulsed-gate technique and a charge sensor. We, then, use this spin blockade to detect Landau-Zener-St\"uckelberg interference and coherent oscillations between the spin quadruplet and doublet states. Such studies add to our understandings of coherence and control properties of three-spin states in a double dot, which, in turn, would benefit explorations into various qubit encoding schemes in semiconductor nanostructures.

Hyperfine-induced decay in triple quantum dots

Thaddeus D. Ladd

We analyze the effects of hyperfine interactions on coherent control experiments in triple quantum dots. By exploiting Hamiltonian symmetries and the SU(3) structure of the triple-dot system under pseudoexchange and longitudinal hyperfine couplings, we provide analytic formulas for the hyperfine decay of triple-dot Rabi and dephasing experiments.
