Abstract

The critical behavior of a mixed ferromagnetic Ising spin system consisting of spin\(-\tfrac{1}{2}\) and spin-1 with a crystal-field interaction is investigated by the use of the effective-field theory with correlations. The general expressions for evaluating the Curie temperature and the tricritical point are obtained. We find that the tricritical point exists in the system with Z >3, where Z is the coordination number.

Mixed-spin Ising model on the Bethe lattice

N. R. da Silva, Silvio R. A. Salinas

We obtain the phase diagram of a ferromagnetic mixed Ising system, consisting of spin-1/2 and spin-S variables, on a Bethe lattice of coordination number z, with nearest-neighbor exchange interactions and single-ion terms. The problem is formulated as a discrete nonlinear map. There is a tricritical point for S integer and z\ensuremath{\ge}5. In the infinite-coordination-number limit, we regain the results of an exact calculation for a Curie-Weiss version of the model.

Phase Transition for a Mixed Spin-$\frac12$ and Spin- s B System with a Transverse Crystal Field

Jiang Wei, Xiao Gui-Bin, Guozhu Wei +2 more

The critical behaviors of a mixed spin- and spin- s B Ising system with a transverse crystal field are studied by use of the effective-field theory with correlations. The effect of the transverse crystal field on transition temperatures is investigated numerically for the honeycomb ( z = 3) and square ( z = 4) lattices. The results show that there is no tricritical point for the system.

Tricritical Behaviour on the Mixed Transverse Ising Spin System with a Crystal Field

Shuaishuai Yan, C. Z. Yang

The tricritical points on the nearest neighbour interaction mixed spin-½ and spin-1 transverse Ising system with a crystal field are investigated within the framework of the effective field theory (EFT) with correlations. Particular emphasis is given to the square lattice for which phase diagrams are obtained. If the transverse field varies in certain ranges, we find that tricritical points are obtained for the present system. The effect of the transverse field on the behaviour of the tricritical points is discussed in this paper.

The tricritical point in Ising models with random bonds and crystal-field interactions

T. Kaneyoshi

A spin-1 Ising model with random bonds and crystal-field interactions Delta i is investigated by the use of effective-field theory with correlations. The general expressions for evaluating the second-order phase transition and the tricritical point are obtained. For a particular case with p( Delta i )=p delta ( Delta i - Delta )+p delta ( Delta i ) the behaviour of the tricritical point with p is studied for a honeycomb lattice.

Critical behavior of a mixed ferrimagnetic ternary alloy on the Bethe lattice

Osman Canko, Bayram Deviren, Mustafa Keskín

The critical behavior of the mixed Ising model of the type AB p C1−p ternary alloy consisting of spins σ = 1/2, S = 1, and m = 3/2 is investigated on the Bethe lattice by using the exact recursion relations. The exact expressions for the magnetizations and magnetic susceptibilities are found, and the thermal behaviors of the magnetizations and susceptibilities are studied. The magnetizations and susceptibilities have also been investigated as functions of the crystal-field interaction or single-ion anisotropy. The phase diagram has been constructed according to which the system always undergoes a second-order phase transition for the coordination number q ≤ 3 and second-and first-order phase transitions for q > 3; hence, the system has a tricritical point. The system also exhibits reentrant behaviors.

Study on the tricritical properties of bond-dilution ferromagnetic spin system with random crystal field

Yanan Zhang

In the frame of Ising model, we investigate the critical properties of bond dilution ferromagnetic spin system with random crystal field and obtain the magnetization expressions by using effective field theory. Special emphasis is placed on tricritical properties of the square lattice. At the range of concern random concentration of crystal field and bond dilution, the present system shows some new critical properties, such as fluctuation of tricritical point. We discuss in detail the influence of two disorder factors on the critical properties and give phase diagram.
