Geometric phases modified by a Lorentz-symmetry violation background

Abstract

We analyze the nonrelativistic quantum dynamics of a single neutral spin-half particle, with nonzero magnetic and electric dipole moments, moving in an external electromagnetic field in the presence of a Lorentz-symmetry violating background. We also study the geometric phase for this model taking in account the influence of the parameter that breaks the Lorentz-symmetry. These geometric phases are used to impose an upper bound on the background magnitude.

The geometric phases in a background with Lorentz-symmetry violation

Ribeiro, L. R., Eduardo Passos, Claudio Furtado +1 more

We analyze the nonrelativistic quantum dynamics of a single neutral spin half particle, with non-zero magnetic and electric dipole moments, moving in an external electromagnetic field in presence of Lorentz symmetry violation background. Also, we study the geometric phase for this model taking into account the parameter that breaks the Lorentz symmetry. We investigate the He-McKellar-Wilkens effect in this context and we verify that Lorentz violation parameter contribute to increase the electric dipole moment of the particle.

Geometric quantum phase in the spacetime of topological defects

K. Bakke, Claudio Furtado, Jose Roberto Nascimento

In this contribution, we study the quantum dynamics of a neutral particle in the presence of a topological defect. We investigate the appearance of a geometric phase in the relativistic quantum dynamics of a neutral particle which possesses permanent magnetic and electric dipole moments in the presence of an electromagnetic field in this curved background. We also study the influence of noninertial effects of a rotating frame and and obtain several contributions to the relativistic geometric phase due to the noninertial effects and the topology of spacetime. The analogous Aharonov-Casher and He-Mckellar-Wilkens effects are investigated in the nonrelativistic dynamics with the presence of a topological defect and under the influence of noninertial effects. We also obtain effects analogous to the Sagnac effect and Mashhoon effect due to the presence of the topological defect.

Relativistic geometric quantum phases from the Lorentz symmetry violation effects in the CPT-even gauge sector of Standard Model Extension

K. Bakke, H. Belich

We discuss the appearance of geometric quantum phases for a Dirac neutral particle in the context of relativistic quantum mechanics based on possible scenarios of the Lorentz symmetry violation tensor background in the CPT-even gauge sector of Standard Model Extension. We assume that the Lorentz symmetry breaking is determined by a tensor background given by [Formula: see text], then, relativistic analogues of the Anandan quantum phase [J. Anandan, Phys. Lett. A 138, 347 (1989)] are obtained based on the parity-even and parity-odd sectors of the tensor [Formula: see text].

Effects of Lorentz symmetry violation on a spin-(1/2) neutral particle in a doubly anharmonic potential

A. S. Oliveira, K. Okada, H. Belich

Abstract We investigate the quantum dynamics of a spin-(1/2) neutral particle under the effects of Lorentz symmetry violation, characterized by a fixed time-like background vector and azimuthal electric fields added to the potential of a pure quartic oscillator. These effects, induced by the background vector that defines a preferred spacetime direction, modify the dynamics of the spin-(1/2) neutral particle and give rise to a doubly anharmonic oscillator-like potential. The main challenge is to find analytical solutions to the Schrödinger equation, considering that this nonlinear potential models realistic quantum physics scenarios. Finally, we obtain bound-state solutions in the nonrelativistic limit for the Schrödinger-Pauli equation of a spin-(1/2) neutral particle. An interesting quantum effect is observed: the constant associated with the pure quartic oscillator term is quantized, meaning it depends on the system's quantum numbers.

Geometric phase for a neutral particle in the presence of a topological defect

K. Bakke, Jose Roberto Nascimento, Claudio Furtado

We investigate the appearance of a geometric phase in the relativistic quantum dynamics of a neutral particle which possesses permanent magnetic and electric dipole moments in the presence of an electromagnetic field in this curved space-time. The nonrelativistic quantum dynamics are investigated using the Foldy-Wouthuysen expansion. The gravitational Aharonov-Casher and He-McKellar-Wilkens effects are investigated for a series of electric and magnetic field configurations.

Aharonov–Casher effect and persistent spin currents in a Coulomb-type potential induced by Lorentz symmetry breaking effects

K. Bakke, H. Belich

Abstract We investigate quantum effects on a nonrelativistic neutral particle with a permanent magnetic dipole moment that interacts with an electric field. This neutral particle is also under the influence of a background that breaks the Lorentz symmetry. We focus on the Lorentz symmetry violation background determined by a space-like vector field. Then, we show that the effects of the violation of Lorentz symmetry can yield an attractive Coulomb-type potential. Furthermore, we obtain the bound state solutions to the Schrödinger–Pauli equation and show that the spectrum of energy is a function of the Aharonov–Casher geometric quantum phase. Finally, we discuss the arising of persistent spin currents.
