Abstract

In this contribution, we study the quantum dynamics of a neutral particle in the presence of a topological defect. We investigate the appearance of a geometric phase in the relativistic quantum dynamics of a neutral particle which possesses permanent magnetic and electric dipole moments in the presence of an electromagnetic field in this curved background. We also study the influence of noninertial effects of a rotating frame and and obtain several contributions to the relativistic geometric phase due to the noninertial effects and the topology of spacetime. The analogous Aharonov-Casher and He-Mckellar-Wilkens effects are investigated in the nonrelativistic dynamics with the presence of a topological defect and under the influence of noninertial effects. We also obtain effects analogous to the Sagnac effect and Mashhoon effect due to the presence of the topological defect.

Geometric phase for a neutral particle in the presence of a topological defect

K. Bakke, Jose Roberto Nascimento, Claudio Furtado

In this paper we study the quantum dynamics of a neutral particle in the presence of a topological defect. We investigate the appearance of a geometric phase in the relativistic quantum dynamics of a neutral particle which possesses permanent magnetic and electric dipole moments in the presence of an electromagnetic field in this curved space-time. The nonrelativistic quantum dynamics are investigated using the Foldy-Wouthuysen expansion. The gravitational Aharonov-Casher and He-McKellar-Wilkens effects are investigated for a series of electric and magnetic field configurations.

Quantum dynamics of magnetic and electric dipoles and the geometric phase

Claudio Furtado, Carlos Alberto de Lima Ribeiro

We study the quantum dynamics of a neutral particle that posseses a permanent magnetic and electric dipole moments in the presence of an electromagnetic field. The analysis of this dynamics demonstrates the appearance of a quantum phase that combines the Aharonov-Casher effect and the He-Mckellar-Wilkens effect. We demonstrate that this phase is a special case of the geometric quantum phase. A series of field configurations where this phase would be found is presented. A generalized Casella-type effect is found in one of these configurations. A physical scenario for the quantum phase in an interferometric experiment is proposed.

The geometric phases in a background with Lorentz-symmetry violation

Ribeiro, L. R., Eduardo Passos, Claudio Furtado +1 more

We analyze the nonrelativistic quantum dynamics of a single neutral spin half particle, with non-zero magnetic and electric dipole moments, moving in an external electromagnetic field in presence of Lorentz symmetry violation background. Also, we study the geometric phase for this model taking into account the parameter that breaks the Lorentz symmetry. We investigate the He-McKellar-Wilkens effect in this context and we verify that Lorentz violation parameter contribute to increase the electric dipole moment of the particle.

Scalar Aharonov‐Bohm effect in the presence of a topological defect

K. Bakke, Claudio Furtado

Abstract In this paper we study the scalar Aharonov‐Bohm effect for a neutral particle possessing a magnetic dipole moment in the presence of a cosmic string. We study the phase shift acquired by the wave function of the neutral particle in the presence of this topological defect, investigate this phase shift within nonrelativistic and relativistic quantum descriptions considering two distinct magnetic field configurations and find that the scalar Aharonov‐Bohm effect is composed by two contributions, with the first one arises due to the interaction of a magnetic dipole with an external field, and other one arises due to the presence of the cosmic string. The nondispersivity of this effect is also discussed.

Noncommutative Anandan quantum phase

Eduardo Passos, L. R. Ribeiro, Claudio Furtado +1 more

In this work, we study the noncommutative nonrelativistic quantum dynamics of a neutral particle, which possesses permanent magnetic and electric dipole moments, in the presence of external electric and magnetic fields. We use the Foldy-Wouthuysen transformation of the Dirac spinor with a nonminimal coupling to obtain the nonrelativistic limit. In this limit, we study the noncommutative quantum dynamics and obtain the noncommutative Anandan geometric phase. We analyze the situation where the magnetic dipole moment of the particle is zero, and we obtain the noncommutative version of the He-McKellar-Wilkens effect. We demonstrate that this phase in the noncommutative case is a geometric dispersive phase. We also investigate this geometric phase by considering the noncommutativity in the phase space, and the Anandan phase is obtained.

HQC with the AC setup associated with topological defects

K. Bakke, Claudio Furtado

In this work, we propose a new formulation allowing to realize the holonomic quantum computation with neutral particles with a permanent magnetic dipole moments interacting with an external electric field in the presence of a topological defect. We show that both the interaction of the electric field with the magnetic dipole moment and the presence of topological defect generate independent contributions to the geometric quantum phases which can be used to describe any arbitrary rotation on the magnetic dipole moment without using the adiabatic approximation.
