Abstract

Abstract We investigate quantum effects on a nonrelativistic neutral particle with a permanent magnetic dipole moment that interacts with an electric field. This neutral particle is also under the influence of a background that breaks the Lorentz symmetry. We focus on the Lorentz symmetry violation background determined by a space-like vector field. Then, we show that the effects of the violation of Lorentz symmetry can yield an attractive Coulomb-type potential. Furthermore, we obtain the bound state solutions to the Schrödinger–Pauli equation and show that the spectrum of energy is a function of the Aharonov–Casher geometric quantum phase. Finally, we discuss the arising of persistent spin currents.

Effects of Lorentz symmetry violation on a spin-(1/2) neutral particle in a doubly anharmonic potential

A. S. Oliveira, K. Okada, H. Belich

Abstract We investigate the quantum dynamics of a spin-(1/2) neutral particle under the effects of Lorentz symmetry violation, characterized by a fixed time-like background vector and azimuthal electric fields added to the potential of a pure quartic oscillator. These effects, induced by the background vector that defines a preferred spacetime direction, modify the dynamics of the spin-(1/2) neutral particle and give rise to a doubly anharmonic oscillator-like potential. The main challenge is to find analytical solutions to the Schrödinger equation, considering that this nonlinear potential models realistic quantum physics scenarios. Finally, we obtain bound-state solutions in the nonrelativistic limit for the Schrödinger-Pauli equation of a spin-(1/2) neutral particle. An interesting quantum effect is observed: the constant associated with the pure quartic oscillator term is quantized, meaning it depends on the system's quantum numbers.

He–McKellar–Wilkens effect and scalar Aharonov–Bohm effect for a neutral particle based on the Lorentz symmetry violation

K Bakke, E O Silva, H. Belich

In this contribution, we discuss the He–McKellar–Wilkens effect and the scalar Aharonov–Bohm effect for neutral particles based on the Lorentz symmetry violation background, by showing that the background of the Lorentz symmetry violation yields Abelian quantum phases for a neutral particle. We also study the non-relativistic bound states for a neutral particle interacting with a Coulomb-like potential based on the Lorentz symmetry violation background given by a fixed vector field parallel to the radial direction.

Missing Aharonov-Casher geometric quantum phase

K. Bakke, Claudio Furtado

From the interaction of the permanent magnetic dipole moment of a neutral particle with an electric field inside a long nonconducting cylindrical shell of inner radius ${r}_{a}$ and outer radius ${r}_{b}$, we show that a geometric quantum phase stems from the missing electric charge per unit length. Thus, we discuss the possibility of existing Aharonov-Bohm-type effects with regard to this geometric quantum phase. Further, we discuss the persistent spin currents.

Geometric phases modified by a Lorentz-symmetry violation background

L. R. Ribeiro, Eduardo Passos, Claudio Furtado +1 more

We analyze the nonrelativistic quantum dynamics of a single neutral spin-half particle, with nonzero magnetic and electric dipole moments, moving in an external electromagnetic field in the presence of a Lorentz-symmetry violating background. We also study the geometric phase for this model taking in account the influence of the parameter that breaks the Lorentz-symmetry. These geometric phases are used to impose an upper bound on the background magnitude.

The geometric phases in a background with Lorentz-symmetry violation

Ribeiro, L. R., Eduardo Passos, Claudio Furtado +1 more

We analyze the nonrelativistic quantum dynamics of a single neutral spin half particle, with non-zero magnetic and electric dipole moments, moving in an external electromagnetic field in presence of Lorentz symmetry violation background. Also, we study the geometric phase for this model taking into account the parameter that breaks the Lorentz symmetry. We investigate the He-McKellar-Wilkens effect in this context and we verify that Lorentz violation parameter contribute to increase the electric dipole moment of the particle.

He–McKellar–Wilkens-type effect, quantum holonomies and Aharonov–Bohm-type effect for bound states from the Lorentz symmetry breaking effects

A. G. de Lima, H. Belich, K. Bakke

From the effects of the Lorentz symmetry violation in the CPT-even gauge sector of the Standard Model Extension determined by a tensor background [Formula: see text], we establish a possible scenario where an analogue of the He–McKellar–Wilkens effect can stem from. Besides, we build quantum holonomies associated with the analogue of the He–McKellar–Wilkens effect and discuss a possible analogy with the geometric quantum computation. Finally, we investigate the dependence of the energy levels on the He–McKellar–Wilkens geometric phase induced by Lorentz symmetry breaking effects when the particle is confined to a hard-wall confining potential.
