Abstract

Abstract We studied the energy spectrum and some finite temperature properties of two‐leg spin‐1/2 ladder with XXZ interactions in legs and rungs. It is shown that for a strong ferromagnetic interchain interaction, there is a first‐order transition between ferromagnetic and nonmagnetic phases. The anisotropic ladder in the magnetic field may have up to four low‐temperature maxima in the temperature dependence of specific heat. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Int J Quantum Chem, 2006

Quantum Phase Transitions in Anisotropic Spin Ladders with Antiferromagnetic Rungs

Qiang Gu, Shen JueLian

We apply perturbation theory to study quantum phase transitions in anisotropic two-leg spin ladders with antiferromagnetic rungs in the strong interchain coupling limit. The energy gap is expanded up to the fourth order in the ratio of the intrachain to interchain couplings. The transition point is determined by examing the disappearance of the energy gap. Present results for the anisotropic ferromagnetic-leg spin ladder are consistent qualitatively with the nonlinear -model analysis and in good agreement with the numerical results by the diagonalization method.

Spin Ladder with Anisotropic Ferromagnetic Legs in a Transverse Magnetic Field

G. I. Japaridze, A. Langari, S. Mahdavifar

Abstract. We study the ground state phase diagram of a two-leg spin ladder with anisotropic ferromagnetic leg couplings under the influence of a symmetry breaking transverse magnetic field by the exact diagonalization technique. In the case of antiferromagnetic coupling between legs we identified two phase transitions in the plane of magnetic field vs interchain coupling strength. The first one corresponds to the transition from the gapped rung-singlet phase to the gapped stripe-ferromagnetic phase. The second one represents the transition from the gapped stripe-ferromagnetic phase into the fully polarized ferromagnetic phase. Quantum phases and thermodynamics of a frustrated spin-1/2 ladder with alternate Ising–Heisenberg rung interactions

Sk Saniur Rahaman, Shaon Sahoo, Manoranjan Kumar

Abstract We study a frustrated two-leg spin ladder with alternate isotropic Heisenberg and Ising rung exchange interactions, whereas, interactions along legs and diagonals are Ising-type. All the interactions in the ladder are anti-ferromagnetic in nature and induce frustration in the system. This model shows four interesting quantum phases: (i) stripe rung ferromagnetic (SRFM), (ii) stripe rung ferromagnetic with edge singlet (SRFM-E), (iii) anisotropic antiferromagnetic (AAFM), and (iv) stripe leg ferromagnetic (SLFM) phase. We construct a quantum phase diagram for this model and show that in stripe rung ferromagnet (SRFM), the same type of sublattice spins (either isotropic S -type or discrete anisotropic σ -type spins) are aligned in the same direction. Whereas, in anisotropic antiferromagnetic phase, both S and σ -type of spins are anti-ferromagnetically aligned with each other, two nearest S spins along the rung form an anisotropic singlet bond whereas two nearest σ spins form an Ising bond. In large Heisenberg rung exchange interaction limit, spins on each leg are ferromagnetically aligned, but spins on different legs are anti-ferromagnetically aligned. The thermodynamic quantities like specific heat C v ( T ), magnetic susceptibility χ ( T ) and thermal entropy S ( T ) are also calculated using the transfer matrix method for various phases. The magnetic gap in the SRFM and the SLFM can be noticed from χ ( T ) and C v ( T ) curves.

Energy spectrum of extended Hubbard model with spin‐dependent hopping and related spin ladder model

Vladyslav O. Cheranovskii, E. V. Ezerskaya, İ. Özkan

Abstract We studied the energy spectrum of the 1‐D extended Hubbard model with spin‐dependent hopping and related spin ladder system formed by two coupled XXZ spin 1/2 chains with the interchain interaction of Ising type. It was proved that the model excitation spectrum has no gap excepting some special values of z‐projection of the ground‐state total spin. The thorough analytic consideration of two‐magnon states was given. The existence up to five bound states at specified value of quasimomentum of the pair of inverted spins was shown. We also present the results of density matrix renormalization group calculations that showed nonadequacy of the pair approximation for n‐magnon bound states of the extended model with the strong electron–electron interactions. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
