Spatiotemporal dynamics of Raman coherence in hydrogen-filled hollow core photonic crystal fibers

Anton Husakou, Yingying Wang, Brian J. Mangan +1 more

The sidebands of stimulated Raman scattering initiated from vacuum fluctuations in hollow-core photonic crystal fiber filled with Raman gas exhibit surprisingly strong self- and mutual coherence [1] as well as persistence of coherence for much longer than the dephasing time T2[2]. This opens new prospects in a number of applications such as attosecond pulse generation and optical waveform synthesis. However, the spatiotemporal coherence dynamics underlying these results is not fully investigated and no rigorous theoretical simulation is available. This contribution discusses theoretical and experimental results that study this issue and explains the long-lived effect of the coherence on a delayed probe pulse in the pump-probe setup.

Efficient Generation of Coherent Stokes Field in Hydrogen Gas-Filled Hollow Core Photonic Crystal Fibres

Thanh Thai Doan, Quy Quang Ho, Thanh Manh Nguyen

In this paper, we study of the coherent Stokes generation in a transient Raman regime by Hydrogen gas-filled hollow-core photonic crystal fibres (HC-PCFs) configuration. The temporal and spatial evolution of the pump and Stokes field envelopes as well as the coherence and population inversion is numerically observed. The influence of the pump pulse width and gas pressure on the energy exchange along fiber and Stokes generation efficiency is investigated.

Supercontinuum up-conversion via molecular modulation in gas-filled hollow-core PCF

S. T. Bauerschmidt, David Novoa, Barbara M. Trabold +2 more

We report on the efficient, tunable, and selective frequency up-conversion of a supercontinuum spectrum via molecular modulation in a hydrogen-filled hollow-core photonic crystal fiber. The vibrational Q(1) Raman transition of hydrogen is excited in the fiber by a pump pre-pulse, enabling the excitation of a synchronous, collective oscillation of the molecules. This coherence wave is then used to up-shift the frequency of an arbitrarily weak, delayed probe pulse. Perfect phase-matching for this process is achieved by using higher order fiber modes and adjusting the pressure of the filling gas. Conversion efficiencies of ~50% are obtained within a tuning range of 25 THz.
