Abstract

Triggering optical superradiance, which allows a control of spontaneous emission with the use of an injection optical pulse, is considered. The multipulse regime of excitation of optical superradiance and the long-lived optical superradiance are analyzed as the generalizations of the triggering regime of superradiance excitation.

Multipulse excitation of optical superradiance in multilevel systems

Alexei A. Kalachev, Самарцев Виталий Владимирович

The multipulse regime of excitation of optical superradiance in both two- and multilevel systems is theoretically investigated. It is demonstrated that this regime is the generalization of the triggering regime of superradiance excitation. The possibilities of information processing and laser cooling of solids under this superradiant regime are discussed.

Multipulse regimes of excitation of optical superradiance due to a two-photon transition

Alexander A. Kalinkin, А. А. Калачев, В. В. Самарцев

Multimode triggered optical superradiance due to a two-photon transition is theoretically studied. Kinetic equations are derived for the dynamics of cooperative development of coherence and population inversion of optical centers interacting with each other through a common field of emitted photons. Various regimes of triggering of optical superradiance due to a two-photon transition are considered. The possibility of creating a quantum photomultiplier on the basis of the triggered optical superradiance is discussed.

Optical superradiance in a Pr3+:LaF3crystal

В. А. Зуйков, А. А. Калачев, В. В. Самарцев +1 more

Optical superradiance was experimentally obtained for the first time on the 3 P 0 — 3 H 4 (0) transition in a Van Vleck paramagnet — a Pr 3+ :LaF 3 crystal. Superradiance at a wavelength of 477.7 nm was emitted by a sample 8 mm long, with resonant absorption coefficient α=4.7 cm -1 , excited by 10-ns laser pulses at a temperature of 2.2 K.

Optical superradiance in Van-Vleck paramagnets

Alexei A. Kalachev, В. А. Зуйков, Самарцев Виталий Владимирович +1 more

The paper describes experimental investigations of two-color optical super-radiance (SR) in LaF3:Pr3+ crystal. Optical excitation was made on the transition 3P0- 3H4(0) at liquid helium temperature. When the power of the pumping 10ns-pulse was higher than a certain threshold, the resonant medium emitted an optical SR pulse on 3P0-3H4(0) transition with a duration of 8-10 ns in the direction of the pumping pulse delayed in time by 12-15 ns with respect to the pumping pulse. When the peak power of the pumping pulse increases up to 40 kW, an SR pulse was also observed for the 3P0-3H6(1) transition. The delay time of this pulse was about 30 ns. Thus, the two-color SR in the employed crystal was observed.

Amplification of squeezed light in the regime of triggered optical superradiance

А. А. Калачев, В. В. Самарцев

The possibility of amplification of pulses of squeezed light in the regime of triggered optical superradiance is analysed. The kinetic equations are obtained which describe the dynamics of cooperative development of the population inversion and dispersion of the quadrature components of polarisation of optical centres interacting with the triggering-pulse field in the squeezed vacuum state. The dependence of the squeezing degree of the superradiance field on the squeezing degrees of the triggering-pulse field and polarisation of an amplifying medium is determined. It is shown that in the case of a sufficiently strong squeezing of the medium, the intensity of the squeezed quadrature component of the superradiance signal is lower than that of an incoherent spontaneous background. Therefore, the superradiance field can be characterised not only by a classical squeezing (when the dispersions of quadratures are not identical) but also by a quantum squeezing (when the dispersion of one quadrature is smaller than its vacuum value).
