We investigate the effects of spontaneously generated coherence (SGC) on the electromagnetically induced transparency features in a four-level Lambda-type system. We show that double-transparency windows and a controllable narrow absorption peak can be obtained with the presence of SGC. We present an equivalent system without the rigorous requirement of close-lying levels to observe the phenomena. We also experimentally demonstrate the corresponding features in a rubidium atomic beam.

Effect of spontaneously generated coherence on absorption in a V-type system: Investigation in dressed states

Chun-Liang Wang, Zhi‐Hui Kang, Si-Cong Tian +2 more

We investigate the spectrum of a four-level V-type system. We show that spontaneously generated coherence between the two closely spaced excited levels produces interference effects in the absorption. As a result, more transparency windows appear comparing to the normal three-level V system. We can also control the number of the transparency windows to be two or three just by tuning the Rabi frequency of the coupling field. We present an equivalent system without the rigorous requirement of close-lying levels to observe the phenomena. We also experimentally demonstrate the corresponding features in a rubidium atomic beam.

Enhancement of Goos–Hänchen shifts due to spontaneously generated coherence in a four-level Rydberg atom

Abstract The impact of spontaneously generated coherence (SGC) on the Goos–Hänchen (GH) shifts of transmitted and reflected light beams from a cavity with a four-level rubidium atom with a Rydberg state are discussed. Using the quantum mechanical density matrix method, we first discuss the absorption and dispersion properties of the medium, then analyze the GH shifts of transmitted and reflected light beams, respectively. We find that quantum interference from SGC can modify the absorption–dispersion properties, which leads to enhancement in GH shifts in transmitted and reflected light beams. Moreover, the effects of coupling light and its detuning on the properties of GH shifts have been discussed.
