Two-photon laser dynamics

Degenerate as well as nondegenerate three-level two-photon laser (TPL) models are derived. In the limit of equal cavity losses for both fields, it is shown that the nondegenerate model reduces to the degenerate one. We also demonstrate the isomorphism existing between our degenerate TPL model and that of a dressed-state TPL. All these models contain ac-Stark and population-induced shifts at difference from effective Hamiltonian models. The influence of the parameters that control these shifts on the nonlinear dynamics of a TPL is investigated. In particular, the stability of the periodic orbits that arise at the Hopf bifurcation of the system and the extension of the self-pulsing domains of the system are studied, revealing the role played by the detuning and ac-Stark parameters.

Influence of Atomic Phase Fluctuations on Field Squeezing and Brightness of Many Two-Photon Correlated-Spontaneous-Emission Lasers

Hongbin Huang

We show in this paper that phase fluctuations of active atoms in many two-photon correlated spontaneous-emission lasers will reduce field squeezings and brightness of the squeezed light. But, under certain conditions of laser operation, the fluctuations of atomic phases between lower almost degenerate atomic levels could increase the squeezings and the brightness. We also show that, even for large phase fluctuations of the active atoms, almost perfect field squeezings and substantial brightness of the squeezed light can be obtained.

A potential new frequency/wavelength standard at 778 nm: Doppler free two-photon transitions in rubidium

Yves P. Millerioux, R. Felder, Driss Touahri +7 more

We have stabilized two laser diodes on the hyperfine components of the 5D/sub 3/2/ and 5D/sub 5/2/ two-photon transitions in natural rubidium (v=385 THz). We have carefully investigated the metrological features of these devices. So far we obtain a frequency stability in terms of the Allan variance of 3.10/sup -13/./spl tau//sup - 1/2 / up to 2000 s and a frequency repeatability of the order of 10/sup -12/. The frequency difference between the two devices is 1.7 kHz under identical operating conditions.>
