Abstract

The results of experimental observation of the electromagnetically induced transparency regime on the 4 I 9/2-4 G 5/2 transition in Nd3+ ions doping in LaF3 are presented. The depth and width of the transparency are analyzed as functions of the control field intensity.

Use of electromagnetically induced transparency for measurement of superhyperfine splitting of the levels of rare-earth metals doped in optical crystals

Ахмеджанов Ринат Абдулхаевич, A. A. Bondartsev, Л. А. Гущин +1 more

The results of experimental and theoretical investigations of the electromagnetically induced transparency regime on the 4 I 9/2-4 G 5/2 transition in Nd3+ ions doped in LaF3 are presented. The superhyperfine splitting of the upper and lower working levels has been determined on the basis of the results obtained. A theoretical model adequately describing the parameters of the resonances of electromagnetically induced transparency has been developed by analyzing the experimental data.

Experimental observation of electromagnetically induced transparency in Pr3+:LaF3

Ахмеджанов Ринат Абдулхаевич, Lev Gushin, Elena Kuznetsova +3 more

We report an experimental observation of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in Pr3+:LaF3 at liquid helium temperature at the 3H4(0)–1D2 (16 872 cm−1) transition. Transparency resonance at ground state hyperfine sublevels (in a Λ scheme) and a dispersion-shaped resonance due to excited state hyperfine coherences (in a V scheme) are detected. Theoretical analysis taking into account the six-level Pr3+ level structure gives qualitative agreement with the experiment.

Electromagnetically induced transparency in an isotopically purified Nd3+:YLiF4 crystal

Ахмеджанов Ринат Абдулхаевич, Л. А. Гущин, Н. А. Низов +4 more

We report the first observation of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in an isotopically purified ${\mathrm{Nd}}^{3+}:{\mathrm{YLiF}}_{4}$ crystal. This crystal demonstrates inhomogeneous broadening of optical transitions of about 35 MHz. EIT is observed in a symmetrical $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}$-like system formed by two hyperfine sublevels of the ground state corresponding to a zero first-order Zeeman (ZEFOZ) transition and a hyperfine sublevel of the excited state, which is not coupled to other ground-state sublevels. It is found that transmission of the probe field as a function of the two-photon detuning demonstrates a comblike structure that can be attributed to superhyperfine coupling between ${\mathrm{Nd}}^{3+}$ ions and fluorine nuclei. The observed structure can be resolved only in the vicinity of the ZEFOZ point where the homogeneous linewidth of the spin transition is sufficiently small. The results pave the way for implementing solid-state quantum memories based on off-resonant Raman interaction without spectral tailoring of optical transitions.

Effective regime of electromagnetically induced transparency in a Pr3+:LaF3 crystal

Ахмеджанов Ринат Абдулхаевич, A. A. Bondartsev, Л. А. Гущин +1 more

The results of experimental and numerical investigations of electromagnetically induced transparency in a Pr 3+ :LaF 3 crystal have been presented. A spectrally isolated Λ system has been made of a specially prepared medium of an ensemble of particles with an inhomogeneous width less than the hyperfine splitting of both upper and lower operating levels. A considerable increase in the transmittance with respect to an unprepared medium has been demonstrated. It has been shown that, under the experimental conditions, the transmittance is limited by the apparatus (spread of the transmission peak by the instrumental linewidth specified by the probe pulse length).

Observation of Electromagnetically Induced Transparency in a Zeeman—Sublevel System in Rubidium Atomic Vapour

肖峰, 郭瑞民, 陈帅 +3 more

We observed electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in a Zeeman-sublevel system using rubidium atomic vapour at the temperature of 75~C, in which the width of the EIT signal is only 0.6 MHz. Two different methods were performed to observe the EIT signal in our experiment.

Cavity electromagnetically induced transparency and optical switching with ion Coulomb crystals

Aurélien Dantan, Magnus Albert, Michael Drewsen

We report on the first observation of cavity EIT with ion Coulomb crystals (40Ca+ions) enclosed in a moderately high-finesse linear cavity, in a novel configuration where both the probe and the control field are injected into the cavity. The weak probe field (single photon level), and the more intense control field originate from the same laser and are both tuned to the same atomic transition (3d2D3/2-4p2P1/2), but with opposite circular polarizations to address separate Zeeman sub-states of the 3d2D3/2level.
