Transfer of angular spectrum and image formation in spontaneous parametric down-conversion

Carlos Henrique Monken, P. H. Souto Ribeiro, Sebastião Pádua

We show that the two-photon state generated in the process of spontaneous parametric down-conversion in a thin crystal carries information about the angular spectrum of the pump beam. This information transfer allows one to control the transverse correlation properties of the down-converted fields by manipulating the pump field, with consequences for a broad class of experiments. The effect is demonstrated theoretically and experimentally, in connection with the formation of fourth-order images by the down-converted beams.

Fourth-Order Interference in Femtosecond Spontaneous Parametric Down-Conversion

Yun-Kun Jiang, Bao-Sen Shi, Jian Li +2 more

We report a fourth-order interference experiment in which pairs of photons are produced in spontaneous parametric down-conversion pumped by femtosecond pulses interfere in a Hong-Ou-Mandel interferometer. The visibility of the interference is (64±4)%, exceeding the bound of 50% predicted by classical interference theory.

Cancelamento de aberrações ópticas utilizando feixes de correlação

Luísa. A. P. Filpi

Optical imaging systems usually introduce wavefront deformation, the so called aberrations, which result in image degradation. In general, optical aberrations can be minimized with suitable combination of lenses or with specially designed lenses to correct certain kinds of aberrations. In this work, we deal with an alternative method for minimizing aberrations, one that employs fourth order detection of photons eneratedby the process of spontaneous parametric down conversion in a non-linear crystal. After a brief description of aberrations and the formation of correlation beams, we present an optical system capable of eliminating correlations introduced by wavefront deformation that are antisymmetric with respect to the system's axis of symmetry. We also present experimental data that conrm the theoretical predictionsand numerical simulations that establish limits for the validity of the proposed method.
