Abstract

An economical version of asymmetric phase-covariant cloning is shown to provide an optimal individual attack on the BB84 protocol with error correction that can be physically simulated using deterministic single-photon two-qubit quantum logic.

Optimality of the Asymmetric Economical phase-covariant Quantum Cloning

Jie-Lin Dai, Wen‐Hai Zhang

Quantum cloning can be reviewed as the optimal individual eavesdropping on quantum cryptography. Specifically, the optimal phase-covariant cloning is regarded as the optimal individual attack on the BB84 protocol. In this paper, by exploring Cerf s formalism, we prove the optimality of the asymmetric economical 1→2 phase-covariant quantum cloning in 2 dimensions working without ancilla. In proof, we derive another independent unitary transformation of this cloner. Our result covers previous contributions [Durt T, et al. Phys. Rev. A, 2004, 69:062316].

Optimal individual attack on BB84 quantum key distribution using single-photon two-qubit quantum logic

Raúl García−Patrón, Franco N. C. Wong, Jeffrey H. Shapiro

We propose the use of single-photon two-qubit quantum logic to physically simulate the optimal individual attack on Bennett-Brassard 1984 quantum key distribution protocol. The experimental setup does not require a quantum memory due to the physical simulation character of the proposal.

Optimal Real State Cloning as the Optimal Individual Attack on the Standard BB84 Protocol

Wen‐Hai Zhang

We show that the optimal real state cloning is the optimal individual on the standard BB84 protocol.Based cloning to attack the BB84 protocol,in two sufficient conditions of the Csiszar and Krner theorem to generate secret keys, one of the two is optimal.

Eavesdropping on the BB84 protocol using phase-covariant cloning: Experimental results

Though the BB84 protocol has provable security over a noiseless quantum channel, the security is not proven over current noisy technology. The level of tolerable error on such systems is still unclear, as is how much information about a raw key may be obtained by an eavesdropper. We develop a reproducible test to determine the security–or lack thereof–of the protocol in practice. This enables us to obtain an experimental estimate of the information that can be obtained using asymmetric phase-covariant cloning to eavesdrop on the BB84 protocol.

Attacking quantum key distribution with single-photon two-qubit quantum logic

Jeffrey H. Shapiro, Franco N. C. Wong

The Fuchs-Peres-Brandt (FPB) probe realizes the most powerful individual attack on BB84 quantum key distribution. A physical simulation of the FPB-probe attack using single-photon two-qubit quantum logic is described.

We have implemented the most powerful individual-photon attack against the Bennett-Brassard 1984 quantum key distribution protocol. Our measurement results are in good agreement with theoretical predictions for the eavesdropper's Rényi information.
