Abstract

We study transparent control of quantum tunneling via unusual analytical solutions for three bosons held in a driven double-well. Under high-frequency approximation, we analytically obtain the fine band structure and general non-Floquet state. At some collapse points of the quasi-energy spectra, the latter becomes the unusual special states. Based on the analytical results and their numerical correspondences, we clearly reveal the mechanism of coherent tunneling and suggest a scheme to transparently control the tunneling of three bosons from one well to another. The results can be observed with the current experimental capability (Chen et al 2011 Phys. Rev. Lett. 107 210405)

Quantum manipulation of tunnelling for two bosons held in a driven triple-well

Mingliang Zou, Gengbiao Lu, Wenhua Hai +1 more

Coherent control of quantum tunnelling is investigated analytically for two bosons held in a driven triple-well potential. In the high-frequency region within resonance, the non-Floquet states with slowly varying populations are constructed by the linear superposition of Floquet solutions. For the non-resonance case with appropriate reduced parameters, we obtain another set of analytical solutions and their numerical correspondences, which exhibits the selective tunnelling effect of atoms. Applying the presented analytical results, a scheme to transport two bosons from the first well to the third is suggested by adjusting the driving parameters.

Coherent control of atomic tunneling in a driven triple well

Gengbiao Lu, Wenhua Hai, Qiongtao Xie

Coherent control of quantum tunneling is investigated for a single atom held in a driven triple-well potential without tight-binding approximation. In the high-frequency regime within or without multiphoton resonance, we find the analytical solutions and their numerical correspondences, including the special Floquet states of invariant populations and the non-Floquet states of slowly varying populations. The Floquet quasienergy spectrum exhibits anticrossings and crossings for different values of the driving parameters, which are associated with different tunneling properties described by the non-Floquet states. Applying the presented results, we suggest a scheme for transporting a single atom between nonadjacent wells or between adjacent wells.

Directed selective tunneling of dipolar bosons in a driven triple well

Gengbiao Lu, Libin Fu, Jie Liu +1 more

We study the coherent control of quantum tunneling for dipolar bosons held in a driven triple-well potential. In the high-frequency region within the resonance case, based on the non-Floquet solutions of two dipolar bosons, the influence of dipolar interaction on tunneling is investigated analytically and numerically, in which the directed selective-tunneling of a single atom is demonstrated when the two bosons are located in the middle well initially. Further, the corresponding effect is exhibited numerically for more dipolar atoms $N>2$ and the directed tunneling of 1 or $(N\ensuremath{-}1)$ atoms occurs by adjusting the driving parameters. These results may be useful in the design of atomic devices.

Directed tunneling of a prescribed number of dipolar bosons in shaken triple-well potentials

Xiaobing Luo, Yueming Wang, Xiaoguang Yu +4 more

Abstract We propose a scheme for precise control of the tunneling dynamics of dipolar bosons in shaken triple-well potentials. In high-frequency regimes and under resonance conditions, we have analytically and numerically demonstrated that we can transport an a priori prescribed number of dipolar bosons along different pathways and in different directions by adjusting the driving parameters. These results extend the previous many-body selective coherent destruction of tunneling schemes for nondipolar bosons in double-well potentials (Gong et al 2009 Phys. Rev. Lett. 103 133002 ; Longhi 2012 Phys. Rev. A 86 044102 ), thus offering an efficient way to design long-range coherent quantum transportation.

Second-order tunneling of two interacting bosons in a driven triple well

Zheng Zhou, Wenhua Hai, Qiongtao Xie +1 more

In this study we have investigated the quantum tunneling of two repulsive bosons in a triple-well potential, subject to a high-frequency driving field. By means of the multiple-time-scale asymptotic analysis, we evidence a far-off-resonant strongly interacting regime in which the dominant tunneling of doublons (paired states) is a second-order process and the selected coherent destruction of tunneling occurs either between doublons or between unpaired states. Two Floquet quasienergy bands of both kinds of states are given analytically, where a fine structure up to the second-order corrections is displayed. The analytical results are confirmed numerically, based on the exact model, and may be particularly relevant to controlling correlated tunneling in experiments.

Physics of manipulation of spin dynamics in a driven double well made transparent

Wenjuan Li, Haochuan Yin, Jia Yi +4 more

We study the coherent manipulation of quantum spin dynamics via simple analytic solutions for a spin–orbit (SO) coupled ultracold atom held in a driven double well. In the high-frequency regime, we analytically obtain the quasienergies, the Floquet states, and the non-Floquet state of this system. When the system parameters are properly selected, the non-Floquet state reduces to special quantum states of simple forms which can provide a more intuitive understanding of some interesting quantum spin dynamical phenomena, such as the intrawell spin–flipping, the interwell spin-conserving tunneling, and the interwell spin–flipping tunneling. Specially, for the interwell spin–flipping tunneling, we surprisingly find that the selective coherent destruction of tunneling (SCDT) can occur at the anti-crossing (non-collapse) points of quasienergy spectrum, which breaks the conventional understanding that the SCDT is associated with the crossing of quasienergy levels. Further, we reveal the interwell spin–flipping tunneling strongly depends on the initial spin direction and the initial position of the SO-coupled atom. These novel results can be readily tested by the current experimental setups and may be useful for the design of spintronic devices.
