Abstract

In this study we have investigated the quantum tunneling of two repulsive bosons in a triple-well potential, subject to a high-frequency driving field. By means of the multiple-time-scale asymptotic analysis, we evidence a far-off-resonant strongly interacting regime in which the dominant tunneling of doublons (paired states) is a second-order process and the selected coherent destruction of tunneling occurs either between doublons or between unpaired states. Two Floquet quasienergy bands of both kinds of states are given analytically, where a fine structure up to the second-order corrections is displayed. The analytical results are confirmed numerically, based on the exact model, and may be particularly relevant to controlling correlated tunneling in experiments.

Quantum manipulation of tunnelling for two bosons held in a driven triple-well

Mingliang Zou, Gengbiao Lu, Wenhua Hai +1 more

Coherent control of quantum tunnelling is investigated analytically for two bosons held in a driven triple-well potential. In the high-frequency region within resonance, the non-Floquet states with slowly varying populations are constructed by the linear superposition of Floquet solutions. For the non-resonance case with appropriate reduced parameters, we obtain another set of analytical solutions and their numerical correspondences, which exhibits the selective tunnelling effect of atoms. Applying the presented analytical results, a scheme to transport two bosons from the first well to the third is suggested by adjusting the driving parameters.

Coherent destruction of tunneling of two interacting bosons in a tight-binding lattice

Stefano Longhi, Giuseppe Della Valle

The dynamics of two correlated bosons hopping on a one-dimensional lattice and driven by a sinusoidal force is analytically investigated by means of a multiple-time-scale asymptotic analysis of the driven Bose-Hubbard Hamiltonian. By assuming the ratio $\ensuremath{\epsilon}=J/\ensuremath{\omega}$ between the tunneling rate $J$ and modulation frequency $\ensuremath{\omega}$ of the driving field as a small parameter, the perturbative analysis shows that, under appropriate driving conditions, coherent destruction of tunneling can be simultaneously realized for both paired and unpaired states up to the long time scale $\ensuremath{\sim}$$1/(\ensuremath{\omega}{\ensuremath{\epsilon}}^{2})$ in the regime corresponding to an energy quantum $\ensuremath{\hbar}\ensuremath{\omega}$ of the driving field of the same order of magnitude as the particle interaction energy $\ensuremath{\hbar}{U}_{0}$. The predictions of the perturbative analysis are confirmed by direct numerical simulations of the two-particle Bose-Hubbard Hamiltonian and by direct quasienergy-band computation.

Directed selective tunneling of dipolar bosons in a driven triple well

Gengbiao Lu, Libin Fu, Jie Liu +1 more

We study the coherent control of quantum tunneling for dipolar bosons held in a driven triple-well potential. In the high-frequency region within the resonance case, based on the non-Floquet solutions of two dipolar bosons, the influence of dipolar interaction on tunneling is investigated analytically and numerically, in which the directed selective-tunneling of a single atom is demonstrated when the two bosons are located in the middle well initially. Further, the corresponding effect is exhibited numerically for more dipolar atoms $N>2$ and the directed tunneling of 1 or $(N\ensuremath{-}1)$ atoms occurs by adjusting the driving parameters. These results may be useful in the design of atomic devices.

Stabilizing correlated pair tunneling of spin-orbit-coupled bosons in a non-Hermitian driven double well

Miaoqian Lu, Xinzhou Guan, Mohan Xia +4 more

We present an analytical framework for stabilizing second-order correlated tunneling of two spin-orbit-coupled bosons in a periodically driven non-Hermitian double-well potential. By combining Floquet theory with multiple-scale asymptotic analysis, we derive effective second-order dynamics and exact quasienergy spectra in the strongly interacting regime. Our analysis reveals distinct stability mechanisms for three fundamental tunneling channels: interwell spin-conserving, interwell spin-flipping, and intrawell spin-flipping. For balanced gain and loss, we identify discrete, well-defined parameter regions where stable pair tunneling emerges, with the spin-flipping channel exhibiting a characteristic symmetry absent in its spin-conserving counterpart. Under unbalanced gain-loss conditions, stability is achieved only when the gain and loss coefficients satisfy specific parametric relations, enabling dissipation-controlled tunneling. Most notably, stable intrawell spin-flipping, while inherently unstable for an initial Fock state, becomes accessible when the system is prepared in a coherent superposition state, thereby revealing that initial-state coherence can serve as a control parameter for dynamical stability in non-Hermitian systems. These results expand the possibilities for controlling correlated tunneling in many-body systems with engineered dissipation.

Coherent control of atomic tunneling in a driven triple well

Gengbiao Lu, Wenhua Hai, Qiongtao Xie

Coherent control of quantum tunneling is investigated for a single atom held in a driven triple-well potential without tight-binding approximation. In the high-frequency regime within or without multiphoton resonance, we find the analytical solutions and their numerical correspondences, including the special Floquet states of invariant populations and the non-Floquet states of slowly varying populations. The Floquet quasienergy spectrum exhibits anticrossings and crossings for different values of the driving parameters, which are associated with different tunneling properties described by the non-Floquet states. Applying the presented results, we suggest a scheme for transporting a single atom between nonadjacent wells or between adjacent wells.

Transparent control of three-body selective destruction of tunneling via unusual states

Yunrong Luo, Gengbiao Lu, Jintao Tan +1 more

We study transparent control of quantum tunneling via unusual analytical solutions for three bosons held in a driven double-well. Under high-frequency approximation, we analytically obtain the fine band structure and general non-Floquet state. At some collapse points of the quasi-energy spectra, the latter becomes the unusual special states. Based on the analytical results and their numerical correspondences, we clearly reveal the mechanism of coherent tunneling and suggest a scheme to transparently control the tunneling of three bosons from one well to another. The results can be observed with the current experimental capability (Chen et al 2011 Phys. Rev. Lett. 107 210405)
