Quantum Statistical Properties of Photon and Phonon Fields in Brillouin Scattering with Intense Pumping

A. Pieczonková

The quantum statistical properties of Brillouin scattering of intense laser light are derived including the coupling of Stokes, anti-Stokes and phonon modes, if the anti-Stokes interaction prevails. Making use of the coherent-state technique, the Heisenberg equations of this process are solved neglecting the loss mechanism, and the normal quantum characteristic function and the normal generating function are derived. The time dependences of the photon distribution and its factorial moments are demonstrated if the phonon, Stokes and anti-Stokes modes are initially in a coherent state and periodical anti-bunching of the field is found when the phases of the incident fields fulfil certain phase conditions; the field can also return to the coherent state again.

Heralded multi-phonon Fock states with forward Brillouin scattering and single-photon detection

Andrew Shepherd, Ryan O. Behunin

We propose a practical scheme for heralding multi-phonon Fock states using the quantum dynamics of forward Brillouin scattering and single-photon detection. This scheme also enables the production of multi-photon states.

Optical coprocessor based on spontaneous Brillouin scattering

I. V. Vovchenko, A. A. Zyablovsky, A. A. Pukhov +1 more

Analog coprocessors for neural networks are an intensively developing field. They provide approximate results of computations for relatively low energy cost and at high speed. We show that a set of ring resonators with Brillouin interaction between photons and phonons, being coupled to a waveguide, can be used to implement matrix-vector multiplication. The input vector is formed by occupancies of the anti-Stokes optical modes pumped via spontaneous Brillouin scattering, i.e, scattering on thermal phonons. Brillouin scattering rates and coupling constants between ring resonators and the waveguide form the matrix. The system allows for parallel computations in frequency band.
