Universality of Potts models with two- and three-site interactions

Abstract

The $q$-state Potts model on the triangular lattice with both two- and three-spin interactions $K$ and $L$ (the Schick-Griffiths model) is shown to be equivalent to the $q$-state Potts model on a 3-12 lattice with only two-spin interactions ${J}_{1}$ and ${J}_{2}$. In particular, the ${J}_{1}>0$ and ${J}_{2}>0$ model is mapped into a Schick-Griffiths model for a range of the coupling parameters $K$ and $L$, so that the two models are in the same universality class. We also show that a recent conjecture by Tsallis on the critical point of the 3-12 model is incorrect.

Two three-state Potts models: the universality of confluent corrections to scaling

Joan Adler, Ian Graham Enting, Vladimir Privman A

The authors present a study of an extended (35-power) low-temperature series for the susceptibility of the ordinary two-site three-state Potts model on the square lattice as well as reanalyses of several extant series for the three-site three-state Potts model on the triangular lattice. Dominant and confluent singularities are investigated and the exponents of both are found to be universal and in agreement with known and conjectured exact values.

Interface in Potts ferromagnet: phase diagram and critical exponents

L. R. da Silva, U.M.S. Costa, Constantino Tsallis

Within a real-space renormalisation group framework, the authors treat the q-state Potts ferromagnet in a simple cubic lattice consisting of two different semi-infinite bulks (respectively characterised by the coupling constants J1and J2) separated by a (1,0,0) interface (characterised by Js). The use of a rather sophisticated two-terminal cluster allows a quite reliable discussion of the phase diagram and its universality classes. Four physically different phases are obtained, namely the paramagnetic and the double-bulk, single-bulk and surface ferromagnetic ones. The critical surface contains a multicritical line (associated with J1not=J2) which in turn contains a special point associated with J1=J2.

Double potts chain and exact results for some two-dimensional spin models

M. A. Yurishchev

An exact analytical solution for the q -state Potts model on a 2×∞ ladder with arbitrary two-, three-, and four-site interactions in a unit cell in presented is a closed form. This solution is used to show that the finite-size internal energy equation [6] yields an accurate value of the critical temperature for the triangular Potts lattice with three-site interactions in alternate triangular faces. It is argued that the above equation is exact at least for self-dual models on isotopic strips.

Making complex CFTs real: The two-dimensional Potts model for $Q>4$ and complex $Q$

Jesper Lykke Jacobsen, Kay Jörg Wiese

The two-dimensional $Q$-state Potts model with real couplings has a first-order transition for $Q>4$. Starting from a triangular-lattice Potts model with two- and three-spin interactions, we study an equivalent loop model in which $Q$ is a continuous parameter. By a combination of analytical and numerical arguments, we show that this loop model allows for the collision of a critical and a tricritical fixed point at $Q=4$. These then emerge as a pair of complex conformally invariant theories at $Q>4$, or even complex $Q$, for suitable complex coupling constants. We conjecture that all conformal data (such as the central charge, critical exponents, and three-point structure constants) can be obtained by analytic continuation of known exact results for the loop model with $Q \le 4$. This conjecture is checked, both for real $Q>4$ and for $Q \in \mathbb{C}$, by extensive transfer-matrix computations and comparison to previous studies for $Q=5$.

Three-state Potts model on the maple leaf lattice

Z. F. Wang, B. W. Southern

We use Monte Carlo methods to study the three-state Potts model on a two-dimensional lattice with fivefold coordination. The lattice consists of triangular and hexagonal units and has properties intermediate between the triangular and kagom\'e lattices. The critical behavior of both ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic cases is considered. As expected, the critical behavior of the ferromagnetic model is independent of the lattice details and lies in the universality class of the three-state ferromagnetic Potts model. A critical end point is found at the coexistence between the ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic phases, and the transition to the antiferromagnetic state is always first order.

Multicritical Points of Potts Spin Glasses on the Triangular Lattice

Masayuki Ohzeki

We predict the locations of several multicritical points of the Potts spin glass model on the triangular lattice. In particular, continuous multicritical lines, which consist of multicritical points, are obtained for two types of two-state Potts (i.e., Ising) spin glasses with two- and three-body interactions on the triangular lattice. These results provide us with numerous examples to further verify the validity of the conjecture, which has succeeded in deriving highly precise locations of multicritical points for several spin glass models. The technique, called the direct triangular duality, a variant of the ordinary duality transformation, directly relates the triangular lattice with its dual triangular lattice in conjunction with the replica method.

Making complex CFTs real: The two-dimensional Potts model for Q>4Q>4Q>4 and complex QQQ
The two-dimensional QQQ-state Potts model with real couplings has a first-order transition for Q>4Q>4Q>4. Starting from a triangular-lattice Potts model with two- and three-spin interactions, we study an equivalent loop model in which QQQ is a continuous parameter. By a combination of analytical and numerical arguments, we show that this loop model allows for the collision of a critical and a tricritical fixed point at Q=4Q=4Q=4. These then emerge as a pair of complex conformally invariant theories at Q>4Q>4Q>4, or even complex QQQ, for suitable complex coupling constants. We conjecture that all conformal data (such as the central charge, critical exponents, and three-point structure constants) can be obtained by analytic continuation of known exact results for the loop model with Q≤4Q \le 4Q≤4. This conjecture is checked, both for real Q>4Q>4Q>4 and for Q∈CQ \in \mathbb{C}Q∈C, by extensive transfer-matrix computations and comparison to previous studies for Q=5Q=5Q=5.
