Abstract

In this paper, the transmission characteristics of rubidium excited state Faraday anomalous dispersion optical filters at 532nm for a practical and important wavelength are analyzed and discussed. A weak magnetic field method is employed to calculate the transmission characteristics versus external magnetic field, laser pump power, cell temperature and cell length for natural Rb, 85Rb and 87Rb atomic vapors, respectively. The theoretical results show that the transmission property of 85Rb atomic vapor is superior to that of Rb, 87Rb atomic vapors in the weak magnetic field, which makes it more suitable for the magneto-optic filtering material of Faraday optical filters by comparison with natural Rb atomic vapor.

In this paper the properties of an excited-state potassium Faraday anomalous dispersion optical filter in potassium vapor with a pump wavelength of 769.90 nm (i.e. 4S1/2-->4P1/2 transition) and a signal wavelength of 532 nm (i.e. 4P1/2-->8S1/2 transition) are calculated and discussed. The filter's transmissions versus the laser pump power and the external magnetic-field are obtained. The theoretical results show the transmission characteristics of the filter are relatively insensitive to the laser pump power and magnetic strength. The laser pump powers require range from 0.8 to 6 mW.cm-2. Our model predicts a peak transmission of 50% and an equivalent band-width of 4 GHz for the filter operating on the 4P1/2<--8S1/2 transition in potassium. The optical filter at 532 nm presented in this paper may be used to detect the practical and important frequency-doubled Nd:YAG laser.

Faraday Anomalous Dispersion Optical Filter at the 87Rb D1 Line

To obtain the weak signal light detection from the high background noise,a study on ultra-narrow bandwidth Faraday anomalous dispersion optical filter(FADOF) at the 87Rb D1 line,5S1/2F=2→5P1/2 F′=1transmission(795 nm) is demonstrated experimentally.A sample cell filled with Rubidium atoms in which the proportion of 87Rb is greater than that of the nature rubidium is placed in a homogeneous magnetic field between two crossed Glan-Thompson polarizers. The incident probe light goes through the sample cell, and interacts with the atoms.Because of the Faraday rotation, the function of the filter can be realized. When the experiment condition changed, the result of transmission spectrum changed accordingly. With the temperature rising from 340 K to 360 K,the variation of the transmission spectrum is recorded particularly. And the reason for the variation is analyzed carefully. At a proper temperature and magnetic field,a transmission spectrum narrowed to ~220 MHz is obtained, and the peak transmission is about 48%.The performance of the87Rb D1 line is better than that of the 85Rb.

Isotope ^87Rb Faraday anomalous dispersion optical filter at 420 nm

Ling Li, Gang Bi

We demonstrate a Faraday anomalous dispersion optical filter (FADOF) operating on 5S(1/2)-6P(3/2) transition at 420 nm with a 5 cm long cell of 96.5% enriched 87Rb and measure the transmission as a function of the magnetic field and temperature. The isotope 87Rb FADOF achieves a peak transmission of 98% with a bandwidth of 2.5 GHz when the temperature of the isotope 87Rb cell is 280°C and the magnetic field is 500 G. The corresponding equivalent noise bandwidth is 5.9 GHz. The isotope 87Rb FADOF is applied to submarine communications, is used as the laser frequency stabilization for some atomic lines, and is also used as the pump laser in four-level Rb active optical clock.

Theoretical model of ultranarrow-bandwidth Faraday-Zeeman optical filter at 780 nm

Natural rubidium is a mixture of the two isotopes, 85Rb and 87Rb. Taking into account their hyperfine structure, and using a quantum-mechanical treatment of the resonant Faraday effect, we calculate the transmission, central frequency shift and pass bandwidth of Rb 780 nm Faraday- Zeeman optical filter, as functions of magnetic field strength and atomic cell temperature.

Transmission characteristics of a Raman-amplified atomic optical filter in rubidium at 780 nm

Wenjin Zhang, Yufeng Peng

The transmission characteristics of a Raman-amplified atomic filter that can be used to detect fairly weak signals in free-space quantum-key distribution or laser communications are analyzed and discussed in the coherent and incoherent pump fields respectively. The theoretical model for the calculation of the transmission characteristics of a ground-state Raman-amplified Faraday dispersion atomic optical filter based on Raman gain and Faraday rotation is presented. The results show that the filter in a coherent pump field can achieve higher transmission and larger tunability than that in an incoherent pump field due to elimination of pumping detuning. In addition, the filter has a large scale tunability over 3.5 GHz via the Faraday transmission peak adjusted while its bandwidth is only 66 MHz, which is useful for free-space laser communication and lidar systems.
