Abstract

Abstract The paper discusses two‐photon Rabi oscillations between the ground state of a quantum dot and the biexciton state, as well as two‐photon oscillations between the two single‐exciton states with different circular polarizations. The effect of phonon‐induced decoherence on these processes is also described. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)

Theory of two-photon processes in quantum dots: Coherent evolution and phonon-induced dephasing

Paweł Machnikowski

The paper discusses coherent control of charge and spin states of a biexciton system in a quantum dot via coherent two-photon transitions. Rabi oscillations between the ground state of a quantum dot and the biexciton state, as well as oscillations between the two single-exciton states induced by laser pulses with different circular or linear polarizations are studied. The effect of phonon-induced decoherence on these processes is described. System properties and driving conditions that lead to optimal coherent control are identified. It is shown that proper optimization allows one to control the two-qubit biexciton system via two-photon transitions with a high fidelity.

Excitonic Rabi oscillations in self‐assembled quantum dots studied by photon echoes

Kenta Asakura, Yasuyoshi Mitsumori, Hideo Kosaka +5 more

Abstract We report the excitonic Rabi oscillations in self assembled quantum dots observed by photon echo spectroscopy. The amplitude of the observed Rabi oscillations increases with the pulse area, which is different from the results of previous reports. A numerical calculation of the Rabi oscillations including the local field effect in a quantum dot well reproduces the experimental oscillations, indicating that the local field effect is one of the important origins of the modification of the Rabi oscillations in quantum dots (© 2012 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Adiabatic rapid passage in quantum dots: phonon‐assisted decoherence and biexciton generation

Krzysztof Gawarecki, S. Lüker, Doris E. Reiter +5 more

Abstract We study the evolution of a quantum dot controlled by a frequency‐swept (chirped), linearly polarized laser pulse in the presence of carrier‐phonon coupling. The final occupation of the exciton state is limited both due to phonon‐induced transitions between the adiabatic spectral branches and because of phonon‐assisted transitions to the biexcitostate. When the biexciton shift is large enough, the quantum dot can be modeled as a two‐level system, which corresponds to excitation with circularly polarized light. For this case, we compare different methods of simulations: (i) a time convolutionless method, (ii) correlation expansion and (iii) path integrals. We show that results obtained from these methods agree perfectly at temperatur. (© 2013 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)

Nonlinear optical response and exciton dephasing in quantum dots

E. A. Muljarov, R. Zimmermann

Abstract The full time‐dependent four‐wave mixing polarization in quantum dots is microscopically calculated, taking into account acoustic phonon‐assisted transitions between different exciton states of the dot. It is shown that quite different dephasing times of higher exciton states in pancake anisotropic InGaAs quantum dots are responsible for the experimentally observed [1] double‐exponential decay in the photon echo signal. Ensemble effect on Rabi oscillations of excitons in quantum dots

Mamiko Kujiraoka, Junko Ishi‐Hayase, Kouichi Akahane +3 more

Abstract We observed excitonic Rabi oscillations (ROs) in quantum dots (QDs) by four‐wave mixing (FWM) and pump‐probe techniques. When a large number of QDs are excited by a spatially nonuniform laser, the inhomogeneous distribution of the transition dipole moments of the QD excitons and the spatial distribution of the input electric field induce distribution of the Rabi frequencies. We investigated this ensemble effect on the ROs of the excitonic polarization and the excitonic population observed in the FWM and pump‐probe signals. By calculating the FWM and pump‐probe signals including the Gaussian distribution of the pulse area, we first showed that a part of the ensemble effect can be cancelled out only in case of the ROs of the excitonic polarization. This reflects the differences between the characteristics of excitonic polarization and population. (© 2009 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)

Coherent nonlinear optical response of excitons and biexcitons in quantum dots coupled to phonons

A. Krügel, V. M. Axt, T. Kühn +2 more

Abstract Four wave mixing signals from single dots and dot ensembles involving excitonic and biexcitonic transitions are discussed. The results have been obtained analytically from a four level dot model coupled to longitudinal acoustic phonons. Time integrated four wave mixing amplitudes for quantum dot ensembles exhibit polarization dependent quantum beats that have already been found in experimental data. In four wave mixing signals of single quantum dots we find that the ground state to exciton transition has two contributions. One is identical to the known solution of the two level quantum dot model and leads to symmetric spectra for longer delay times, while the other comprises phase information from the biexciton and results in asymmetric spectra.
