Problem of coherence in modern optoelectronics and relaxed optics

Abstract

The problem of coherence in modern optoelectronics (MOE) and Relaxed Optics (RO) is discussed. Classical and quantum conceptions of coherence are analyzed. Problem of coherence in RO is represented as problem of creation and change of coherent structures. Other problems of coherence breakdown, including phase coherence, and here applications in MOE and RO are discussed too.

Relaxed optics: the necessity of the creation and problem of the development

Petro P. Trokhimchuck

Basic problems of relaxed optics are discussed in historical, theoretical and experimental retrospective and perspective. The classification of basic relaxed optical phenomena are discussed. The way of possible development the relaxed optics in exeperimental and theoretical directions and its possible applications are discussed too. Relaxed optics: The necessity of the creation and problem of the development

Petro P. Trokhimchuck

The problem of the irreversible interaction light and matter has a long history. The problem of the interaction light with classical crystals in the self-absorption range is now practically unknown. In the modern radiation physics the problem of the creation damages after optical irradiation the crystals is insufficiently known too. For the resolution of this problem, relaxed optics was created. For the synthesis of all possible phenomena of irreversible interaction light and matter, relaxed optics was created. The basic phenomenological parameters of relaxed optics are as following: chronological parameters; the time of the irradiation; the time of the chaotization, practically the time of the transition the elementary act of the excitation with short-range action to long-range action; the dynamic (practically in general case thermodynamic) time of the system relaxation; the time of life the excitation phase in equilibrium and nonequilibrium states respectively. Relaxed optics is the natural expansion methods of the irreversible physics on optics. The relaxed optical phenomena are in equal parts of modern optics

GENERALIZED COHERENT STATES AND NON-LINEAR SCHRODINGER EQUATION

Guadalupe Frias, Ma. de Lourdes Nájera López, Máximo Augusto Agüero Granados

The Quantum coherent states were established under the bases of the quantum laws of the nature. These coherent states play an important role in science and technology, for example in optics, where they are used in the theorical and experimental study of lasers. Here, some of the properties of these quantum states and some of their applications to many-body classic problems of modern physics related to the well-known non-linear Schroendinger equation are analyzed.

About the nature of the coherence of light waves

П. О. Дем’яненко, Kostiantyn P. Demianenko, Fedir P. Demianenko +1 more

The nature of electromagnetic (EM) phenomena, including light, is not fully clear. Postulated rejection of EM ether as a hypothetical habitat and distribution of EM waves, holds in the uncertainty and the problem of understanding the existence of most of these waves, because the notion of "wave" inseparable from the concept of "environment". EM ether, as a hypothetical environment of origin and propagation of EM waves, was declined by postulate. This keeps the uncertainty in the problem of understanding the existence of these waves actually, since the definition of "wave" is an part of the definition of "environment". The input in physics of the concept of wave "coherence", which was necessary to explain the phenomenon of interference of light, also requires a transparent physical interpretation. Today use of the idea of the several-meters - length wave zugs, which are emitted by individual atoms, is at least unconvincing, thus there is technical ability to generate powerful light pulses of 10-15 s. A quantum model of the structure of the optical packet stream, which provides a transparent physical interpretation of all parameters of coherent light, is offered. In this model parameters of coherence are organically linked with the geometry parameters of the quantum packets. Developments of classical wave optics will not be discarded. To coordinate with the quantum-packet model and modern views about the nature of light, we either give them a new interpretation or adjust, or develop these developments. In particular, a new interpretation of the experimental fact increase the radius of coherence of light coming from distant sources (stars) is offered. Modern conception of light corpuscles-photons is formulated. The estimations of the size of the spatial localization of the photon is received. "Diffraction of photons" is considered.

RECENT RESEARCHES ON COHERENCE PROPERTIES OF LIGHT

E. Wolf

Abstract : A brief review is presented of the basic notions and results of a theory formulated within the framework of classical optics to explain optical coherence phenomena. A stochastic description of light is given. Coherence effects of the second and fourth order are also presented.

Engineering Quantum Mechanics

Doyeol Ahn, Seoung-Hwan Park

A clear introduction to quantum mechanics concepts Quantum mechanics has become an essential tool for modern engineering, particularly due to the recent developments in quantum computing as well as the rapid progress in optoelectronic devices. Engineering Quantum Mechanics explains the fundamentals of this exciting field, providing broad coverage of both traditional areas such as semiconductor and laser physics as well as relatively new yet fast-growing areas such as quantum computation and quantum information technology. The book begins with basic quantum mechanics, reviewing measurements and probability, Dirac formulation, the uncertainty principle, harmonic oscillator, angular momentum eigenstates, and perturbation theory. Then, quantum statistical mechanics is explored, from second quantization and density operators to coherent and squeezed states, coherent interactions between atoms and fields, and the Jaynes-Cummings model. From there, the book moves into elementary and modern applications, discussing such topics as Bloch theorem and effective mass theory, crystal orientation effects for zinc-blend and wurtzite Hamiltonian, and quantum entanglements and teleportation. There has been growing interest in the model of semiconductor lasers with non-Markovian relaxation. This book develops a non-Markovian model for the optical gain in semiconductor materials, taking into account the rigorous electronic band-structure and the non-Markovian relaxation using the quantum statistical reduced-density operator formalism. Many-body effects are taken into account within the time-dependent Hartree-Fock equations, and example programs based on Fortran 77 are provided for band-structures of zinc-blend quantum wells. Engineering Quantum Mechanics is intended for advanced undergraduate and graduate students in electrical engineering, physics, and materials science. It also provides the necessary theoretical background for researchers in optoelectronics or semiconductor devices.
