Saturation and secondary Stokes effects in coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy

Herschel Weil, PAUL W. SCHREIBER

Coupled differential equations are formulated to model the generation of coherent anti-Stokes Raman radiation in molecular gases. They include the basic coherent interaction of incident pump and idler (Stokes) waves to generate the anti-Stokes radiation plus other radiation and absorption processes which influence saturation due to population depletion of the lowest energy level. Other factors considered are simultaneous excitation of more than one vibration frequency, a quasi-monochromatic idler beam slightly off the true Stokes frequency, and the temporal laser pulse shape. Some effects of these various physical factors on saturation are presented graphically.

All-optical arbitrary temporal shaping technology of broadband low-coherence light based on saturable absorption effect

Rao Li, Daipeng Sui, Xiaochao Wang +1 more

Broadband low-coherence light has been applied in many fields such as optical imaging, atmospheric optical communication and laser inertial confinement fusion(ICF). It’s meaningful to investigate the temporal shaping technology of broadband low-coherence light. We propose and experimentally demonstrate a scheme of achieving all-optical arbitrary temporal shaping of broadband low-coherence light based on saturable absorption effect. Compared to traditional temporal shaping schemes such as electro-optic modulation(EOM) shaping or acousto-optic modulation(AOM) shaping, the modulation on the shaped pulse profile is much smaller, reduced from 14% (by acousto-optic modulator) to 3%(close to the ASE noise). Furthermore, we explore the evolution of shaped pulse contrast (intensity ratio between front edge and end edge) with the pump energy and contrast changing. The contrast of shaped pulse can be adjusted from 1:1.32 to 1:1.02 when pump contrast is 1:2, and from 1:2.25 to 1:1.90 when pump contrast is 1:3. And the maximum contrast of shaped pulse can reach 1:17 within the measurement accuracy. By changing the energy and contrast of pump, the contrast of the shaped pulse can be controlled flexibly. It’s useful to achieve all-optical arbitrary temporal shaping and pre-compensation during pulse amplification.

Effects of saturation and self-saturation in a field of opposite spreading laser waves on transition J=1-J=1

Sergey G. Rautian, Э. Г. Сапрыкин, А. А. Черненко

The form of the saturated absorption resonance for atomic transition J=1-J=1 at arbitrary intensities of a probe light field is calculated. The influence of the saturation effect of optical transitions by own spontaneous radiation on the form of a nonlinear resonance is researched. It is revealed, that in case of orthogonal polarizations of strong and probe fields the increase of the probe field intensity can result in inversion of the shape of a nonlinear resonance. The saturation effect of optical transitions by own spontaneous radiation increases contrast of the inverted resonance of saturation and narrows its spectrum. In case of parallel polarizations of optical fields the peak of absorption can arise in the shape of nonlinear resonance at splitting of the lower atomic state.
