Abstract

The quantum phase transition in the spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ XX Heisenberg chain model with three-spin interaction is studied. Using the Jordan-Wigner transformation, several thermodynamic, as well as thermal and spin transport quantities of the system are calculated exactly. It is shown that the three-spin interaction influences the calculated quantities and leads to characteristic features of the quantum phase transition. The effects of a finite magnetic field on the magnetic moment and magnetic susceptibility are also discussed.

Quantum phase transition in a spin‐½ XX chain with three‐spin and uniform long‐range interactions

Ping Lou

Abstract A spin‐½ XX chain with three‐spin and uniform long‐range interactions among the z components of the spins is constructed. Based upon the model, using the Jordan–Wigner transformation, the thermodynamic quantities and spin transports of the system are evaluated exactly. The phase diagram together with the key parameters characterizing quantum phase transitions is presented. It is noted that, similarly to classical first‐order phase transitions, there are also the metastable states “supercooled” and “superheated” in the first‐order quantum phase transitions. Generalized concurrence and quantum phase transition in spin-1 Heisenberg model

Hassan Bahmani, G. Najarbashi, Ali Tavana

Abstract In this paper we investigate the ability of the generalized concurrence as a quantum entanglement measure to describe the quantum and thermal phase transitions in the spin-1 Heisenberg model with bilinear and biquadratic interactions and single-ion anisotropy terms, under a magnetic field. Calculations are performed for two and three spin chains based on the exact diagonalization method. We show that in the near vicinity of the zero temperature, the generalized concurrence changes abruptly from a finite non-zero value to zero by changing the parameters of the model. This is signature of a quantum phase transition that is carefully justified by studying the thermodynamic functions such as magnetization, particle number, particle susceptibility and magnetic susceptibility. The critical points are found and various ordered phases are discussed.

Exact solution of a spin- 12 XX chain with three-site interactions in a random transverse field: Influence of randomness on the quantum phase transition

Volodymyr Derzhko, Oleg Derzhko, Johannes Richter

We present exact results for the ground-state and thermodynamic properties of the spin-1/2 $\mathit{XX}$ chain with three-site interactions in a random (Lorentzian) transverse field. We discuss the influence of randomness on the quantum critical behavior known to be present in the nonrandom model. We find that at zero temperature the characteristic features of the quantum phase transition, such as kinks in the magnetization versus field curve, are smeared out by randomness. However, at low but finite temperatures signatures of the quantum critical behavior are preserved if the randomness is not too large. Even the quantum critical region may be slightly enlarged for very weak randomness. In addition to the exact results for Lorentzian randomness we present a more general discussion of an arbitrarily random transverse magnetic field based on the inspection of the moments of the density of states.

First order quantum phase transitions in the XX spin chain

Feng Pan, Nan Ma, Xin Guan +1 more

Quantum phase transitional behavior of a finite periodic XX spin-1/2 chain with nearest neighbor interaction in a uniform transverse field is studied based on the simple exact solutions. It is found that there are [N/2] level-crossing points in the ground state, where N is the periodic number of the system and [x] stands for the integer part of x, when the interaction strength and magnitude of the magnetic field satisfy certain conditions. The quantum phase transitions are of the first order due to the level-crossing. The ground state in the thermodynamic limit will be divided into three distinguishable quantum phases.

Quantum phase transition and entanglement in Heisenberg XX spin chain with impurity

Shirong Chen, Yun‐Jie Xia, Man Zhong-Xiao

In this paper, we study the quantum phase transition and the effect of impurity on the thermal entanglement between any two lattices in three-qubit Heisenberg XX chain in a uniform magnetic field. We show that the quantum phase transition always appears when impurity parameter is an arbitrary constant and unequal to zero, the external magnetic field and impurity parameters have a great effect on it. Also, there exists a relation between the quantum phase transition and the entanglement. By modulating the temperature, magnetic field and the impurity parameters, the entanglement between any two lattices can exhibit platform-like behaviour, which can be used to realize entanglement switch.
