Abstract

The Monte Carlo renormalisation group method is applied to discussing the nature of the phase transition of the XY model on a two-dimensional random triangular lattice. A line of fixed points and a nonuniversal phase transition have been found, in agreement with Kosterlitz-Thouless theory.

Phase Transition and Critical Behavior for XY Model on 2-Dimensional Random Triangle Lattice

Ke Jin, Chen Tian-Lun, Wu-Qun Huang

The Monte Carlo renormalization group method is applied to discussing the nature of phase transition of XY model on 2-dimensional random triangle lattices. A line of fixed point and un-universal phase transition are found. The results are in agreement with Kosterlitz-Thouless theory. The susceptibility shows a clear size-dependent low temperature region. This means that it should be divergent in this region.

From Continuous to First Order Phase Transition in a Generalized XY Model

Tian Wang, T. L. Chen

A generalized XY model with interaction is studied by Monte Carlo renormalization group method on two-dimensional random triangle lattice. For , a line of fixed points has been found. It characterizes that there is a Kosterlitz-Thouless phase transition. For , a first order phase transition has been found. Both of them show the relationship between the nature of phase transition and the class of interactions.

Monte Carlo renormalization-group study of the discrete Gaussian model

Katherine J. Strandburg

A simple Monte Carlo renormalization-group matching procedure is applied to the discrete Gaussian model on a triangular lattice. The line of fixed points at high temperatures is observed. The roughening temperature found is in good agreement with that found using methods which assume the validity of the Kosterlitz-Thouless theory.

Monte Carlo Study of a Triangular Ising Lattice. II. Occurrence of the Kosterlitz-Thouless-Like Phase Transition

Hajime Takayama, Kazuyuki Matsumoto, Hideaki Kawahara +1 more

A two-dimensional triangular Ising lattice with the nearest-neighbor antiferromagnetic interaction J 1 and the next-nearest-neighbor ferromagnetic interaction - J 2 is studied by the Monte Carlo simulation. It is shown that the system with a finite J 2 undergoes the successive phase transition, paramagnetic→Kosterlitz-Thouless (KT)-like→ferrimagnetic phases, as temperature decreases. The sub-lattice switching phenomenon observed in our previous work is shown to be an intrinsic property inherent to the present system which has an XY character. The marginal exponent of the order-parameter correlation function at the KT-like transition point is seen to increase from 1/4 as the ratio J 2 / J 1 decreases, namely, it reveals a deviation from the universal behavior of a genuine XY model.

Application of renormalization group method to s=1/2xy model on triangular lattice

Jos Rogiers, Donald D. Betts

The two-dimensional spin one half XY model may undergo an unusual type of phase transition. A formulation of the renormalization group approach of Niemeijer and van Leeuwen suitable for quantum-mechanical systems is presented. The method is applied to the spin one half XY model on the triangular lattice using a second order cumulant expansion based on division of the triangular lattice into seven spin cells. The resulting free energy curve is in excellent agreement with that obtained from the high temperature series expansion. An unstable fixed point is found but the corresponding critical temperature is not in good agreement with the series expansion value. Pathological values are found for the critical exponents.

Thermodynamic quantities and phase transition of a generalized XY model on triangular lattice

Yunzhou Sun, Qin Wu, Jingyan Li +1 more

The thermodynamic quantities and transition problem of a generalized XY model on triangular lattice are studied by using Monte Carlo (MC) method. We find this transition is a Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless (BKT) type, the same as the XY model, by the result of critical exponents and helicity modulus. The critical temperature is obtained by four different methods. Meanwhile, some thermodynamic quantities are also discussed in detail.
