Ground-state instability in systems of strongly interacting fermions

S. A. ARTAMONOV, Vasily R. Shaginyan, Yu. G. Pogorelov

The stability of a fermion system is analyzed for a model repulsive pair interaction potential. The possibility of different types of restructuring of the Fermi ground state (at sufficiently great coupling constant) is related to the analyticity properties of such potential. In particular, for the screened Coulomb law it is shown that the restructuring cannot be of the Fermi condensation type, known earlier for some exactly solvable models, but instead belongs to the class of topological transitions. A phase diagram constructed for this model in the variables “screening parameter-coupling constant” displays two kinds of topological transitions: a “5/2” kind, similar to the known Lifshitz transitions in metals, and a “2” kind, characteristic for a uniform strongly interacting system.

Theory of Superconductivity in Strongly Correlated Systems: Auxiliary Boson-Fermion Formulation

Fusayoshi J. Ohkawa

An effective Hamiltonian with auxiliary bosons and auxiliary fermions is proposed to treat the Hubbard Hamiltonian with strong correlation. Auxiliary particles themselves can not describe any real excitations. In particular, the Bose condensation of auxiliary bosons never occurs, and auxiliary fermions have no Fermi surfaces. Real excitations are described by two kinds of pair-excitations of auxiliary particles, such as fermionic and bosonic pair-excitations. Superconductivity in the effective Hamiltonian is nothing but the condensation of Cooper pairs between fermionic pair-excitations, which are formed by the superexchange interaction mediated by auxiliary fermions. The proposed model of superconductivity is consistent with anisotropic-singlet superconductivity previously examined by the present author (Jpn. J. Appl. Phys. 26 (1987) L652.), which is based on the Fermi liquid theory of the Hubbard Hamiltonian.

Second-order tunneling of two interacting bosons in a driven triple well

Zheng Zhou, Wenhua Hai, Qiongtao Xie +1 more

In this study we have investigated the quantum tunneling of two repulsive bosons in a triple-well potential, subject to a high-frequency driving field. By means of the multiple-time-scale asymptotic analysis, we evidence a far-off-resonant strongly interacting regime in which the dominant tunneling of doublons (paired states) is a second-order process and the selected coherent destruction of tunneling occurs either between doublons or between unpaired states. Two Floquet quasienergy bands of both kinds of states are given analytically, where a fine structure up to the second-order corrections is displayed. The analytical results are confirmed numerically, based on the exact model, and may be particularly relevant to controlling correlated tunneling in experiments.
