Abstract

We experimentally demonstrate optical sub-QPSK symbol information extraction from a 16-QAM signal using optical phase erasure in HNLF. Partial symbol information of one QPSK channel in a 10-Gbaud/s 16-QAM signal is extracted successfully based on four wave mixing.

Optical demultiplexing of a QPSK data channel into two BPSK sub-channels based on phase sensitive amplification

Zahra Bakhtiari

We demonstrate optical demultiplexing of a QPSK signal into two BPSK sub-channels based on coherent vector addition of original signal and the phase conjugated copy respectively. Both sub-channels of a QPSK signal are extracted simultaneously and independently using a scalable phase sensitive amplification technique. This phase sensitive method potentially may also be applied to higher level QAM signals.

Multi-channel phase regeneration of QPSK signals based on phase sensitive amplification

Hongxiang Wang, Tiantian Luo, Yuefeng Ji

In this paper, we propose and demonstrate simultaneous phase regeneration of four different channels of QPSK signal based on phase sensitive amplification. The configuration can be divided into two parts. The first one uses four wave mixing in high nonlinear fiber (HNLF) to generate the corresponding three harmonic conjugates precisely at the frequency of the original signals. The other one uses optical combiner to realize coherent addition which is aimed at completely removing the interaction in phase regeneration stage. The simulation results suggest that this scheme can optimize signal constellation to a large extend especially in high noise environment. Besides, optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR) can improve more than 3 dB while the bit-error-rate (BER) reaches 10 –3 with a constant white noise and 15° phase noise.

Simultaneous optical signal extracting and erasing based on four-wave mixing in optical fiber

Yang Jiang, Jinlong Yu, Bo Wu +4 more

A simultaneous optical signal extracting and erasing scheme is presented by utilizing four-wave mixing (FWM) in optical fiber. Two synchronized gate and negation gate pulses are used as control signal, which are coupled with data stream and produce FWM effect in high nonlinear fiber (HNLF). Through filtering the idler light generated between each control signal and data stream, simultaneous signal extracting and erasing functions can be obtained. Experimental results are successfully demonstrated with NRZ data format at 10 Gbit/s. This system is able to operate at higher bit rates and other data modulation formats.
