Abstract

We experimentally demonstrated optical tunable phase-coherent multiplexing of four 20-Gbit/s OOK channels at different wavelengths into a single 80-Gbit/s 16-QAM channel and also a single star 16-QAM channel using PPLN devices.

Optical sub-QPSK symbol information extraction from 16-QAM signal using optical phase erasure

Zahra Bakhtiari, R. W. Hellwarth, Alan Eli Willner

We experimentally demonstrate optical sub-QPSK symbol information extraction from a 16-QAM signal using optical phase erasure in HNLF. Partial symbol information of one QPSK channel in a 10-Gbaud/s 16-QAM signal is extracted successfully based on four wave mixing.

Simultaneous all-optical transparent phase multiplexing/de-multiplexing based on FWM in a HNLF

Yu-Hsiang Wen, Jia-Wei Ho, Kai-Ming Feng

We propose and experimentally demonstrate a novel bidirectional modulation format converter that can simultaneously phase multiplex and de-multiplex PSK signals between QPSK and BPSK formats all-optically by employing four-wave mixing (FWM) in a single HNLF.

Optical demultiplexing of a QPSK data channel into two BPSK sub-channels based on phase sensitive amplification

Zahra Bakhtiari

We demonstrate optical demultiplexing of a QPSK signal into two BPSK sub-channels based on coherent vector addition of original signal and the phase conjugated copy respectively. Both sub-channels of a QPSK signal are extracted simultaneously and independently using a scalable phase sensitive amplification technique. This phase sensitive method potentially may also be applied to higher level QAM signals.

Y-00 quantum stream cipher overlay in a coherent 256-Gbit/s polarization multiplexed 16-QAM WDM system

Fumio Futami, Kyle Guan, J. Gripp +4 more

We present the operation of a 1.5-Gb/s real-time Y-00 quantum stream cipher as an overlay in a modern coherent wavelength-division multiplexed (WDM) transmission system. We investigate transmission performance in two different wavelength allocation scenarios. The first scenario places the Y-00 cipher signal in a vacant 50-GHz channel slot between two 50-GHz spaced real-time processed 32-Gbaud PDM-16-QAM (256-Gbit/s) channels. The second scenario puts the Y-00 cipher signal in the small gap between two adjacent 50-GHz spaced WDM channels, hence implementing a secure channel overlay in a fully loaded WDM system. In both scenarios, the Y-00 cipher signal and the 256-Gbit/s signals are transmitted over 320 km.
