Investigation of Microwave-Induced dc Voltages across Unbiased Josephson Tunnel Junctions

J. T. Chen, R. J. Todd, Y.W. Kim

We have studied the power dependence of the microwave-induced dc voltages across "unbiased" Pb---Pb oxide---Pb Josephson tunnel junctions and found a systematic dependence. We have also found that the Josephson effect in the form of induced quantum voltages was observable in a large dc magnetic field as high as 0.5 kG, about one-half of the ${H}_{c2}$ of the superconducting Pb film.

Hysteresis Loop in Current-Voltage Curve for BaPb0.7Bi0.3O3 Josephson Junction Array in a Microwave Field

Minoru Ito, Yoichi Enomoto, Minoru Suzuki +2 more

The microwave-induced, quantized high dc voltage of about 2 mV across the unbiased BaPb0.7Bi0.3O3 Josephson tunnel junction array is observed. The nearly rectangular hysteresis loop due to the voltage generation appears in the current-voltage curve. The induced voltage polarity can easily be switched by an external pulse current input signal of only 50 A/cm2. This voltage switching can probably be exploited in the Josephson junction array as a future logic element.
