Tailoring Parametric Down Conversion speckle structure toward quantum imaging of weak objects

G. Brida, Alice Meda, Marco Genovese +1 more

Speckle structure 1 of Parametric Down Conversion (PDC) has recently received a large attention due to the relevance in view of applications to quantum imaging. The possibility of tailoring the speckle size by acting on the pump intensity and dimensions is an interesting tool for the applications to quantum imaging and in particular to the detection of weak objects under shot-noise limit. In this paper we report a systematic detailed study of the speckle structure in particular of the one in type II PDC, with attention to its variation with pump beam characteristics (power and radius).

Seeded Parametric Downconversion for Quantum Ghost imaging

Stefania Castelletto, R. Lowden, Robert E Scholten +5 more

In this paper we propose a novel source to study the role of spatial and intensity quantum correlation in ghost imaging. By seeding a parametric down-conversion (PDC) source with a pseudo thermal source the output transforms in a two-photon field, whose correlation properties can be tuned by changing the seed field intensity and its spatial coherence. This source can be used to explore experimental configurations not covered so far by classical and quantum ghost imaging experiments.

Spectral properties of transverse Laguerre-Gauss modes in parametric down-conversion

Carlos Sevilla-Gutiérrez, Varun Raj Kaipalath, Baghdasar Baghdasaryan +3 more

The first color photos of the parametric down-conversion (PDC) emission cone illustrate the correlation of longitudinal and transverse momentum in the process, i.e., wavelength-dependent emission angles of PDC photons. However, current experiments and applications are more conveniently described in terms of discrete mode sets, with the most suitable choice depending on the propagation symmetries of the experimental setting. Remarkably, despite the fact that experiments with PDC sources are becoming ever more demanding, e.g., in terms of brightness or state fidelity, a description of spectral-spatial coupling in parametric down-conversion for the case of discrete modal decompositions remains elusive. We present a comprehensive study, in theory and experiment, of the spectral dependence of the transverse Laguerre-Gauss modes in parametric down-conversion. Moreover, we show how the spectral and spatial coupling can be harnessed to tune the purity of the well-known orbital angular momentum entanglement. This paper has implications for efficient collection of entangled photons in a transverse single mode, quantum imaging, and engineering pure states for high-dimensional quantum information processing.
