Principle of forming bound states of atoms in a laser field

Oleg N. Gadomsky, A. G. Glukhov

It has been shown that different regimes of forming bound states of colliding atoms are possible due to their near-field interaction in a laser field. Analysis is performed for room temperature and a weak laser field under the conditions of smooth scanning of the laser radiation frequency in dependence on frequencies of near-field optical resonances.

Kinetics and spectroscopy of near-resonant optical pumping in intense fields

Frederick H. Mies, Y. Ben Aryeh

The resonant Raman scattering in a three level system produces an optical pumping of molecules from the initial to the final states which are radiatively coupled to the intermediate resonant state. We consider the pumping that is produced by an intense, pulsed, monochromatic radiation field that is near-resonant with the initial resonance frequency. The Heitler–Ma damping theory is solved exactly for the case when the resonance fluorescence is weak compared to the Raman scattering, or any other processes which might cause irreversible decay of the resonant state. In particular, we examine the usefulness of dressed states to describe the intense field limit. The spectral line shape for the Raman scattering is obtained. The transient behavior following the onset of the laser pulse is examined and a careful analysis of the pumping rate and its relationship to both weak and strong field theories is presented.

THE TRANSIENT BEHAVIOR OF PROBE LASER PULSE IN A TWO-LEVEL SYSTEM STRONGLY DRIVEN BY A NEAR-RESONANT LASER PULSE

Panming Fu, 中国科学院物理研究所

The interaction between a weak probe laser pulse and a two-level system strongly driven by a near-resonant laser pulse is studied by dressed model. The probe pulse exhibits absorption or. amplification when its frequency ω2 tuned to the resonance frequency ω2=ω1±21D>. The transient behavior of nonlinear wave-mixing effect, where the resonant enhancement exists, is also obtained.
