Spatio-temporal properties of pulse propagation in a graphene quantum system

Abstract In this paper we have theoretically studied the spatial-temporal evolution of electromagnetic light propagation through a four-level graphene quantum system by using density matrix method and perturbation theory. The four-level graphene quantum medium interacted by an elliptical polarized coupling and a weak probe lights, respectively. We present the analytical solution for solving the Maxwell–Bloch equations for graphene and electromagnetic field in space and time domains. Then, we have analyzed the dynamic control of pulse propagation and optical dual switching in such a laser-driven quantum system. Our theoretical findings show that by adjusting the optical parameters such as elliptical angle i.e. phase difference between right-and-left circularly polarized, one can easily control the absorption spectrum and pulse propagation of the probe light in graphene medium. Our results may have potential applications in designing the new quantum devices for usage in quantum information processing.

Propagation of twin light pulses under magneto-optical switching operations in a four-level inverted-Y atomic medium

Jiahua Li, Rong Yu, Liu-Gang Si +1 more

Propagation dynamics of twin laser pulses through a cold four-level inverted-Y atomic medium is investigated theoretically via switching on and off an external magnetic field under the application of a strong driving field.By numerically solving the coupled Bloch-Maxwell equations for atom and field simultaneously on a spacetime grid, our spatio-temporal results clearly show that dynamic control of twin-pulse propagation and magneto-optic dual switching operation are possible in such an inverted-Y system. The proposed scheme may be used for the design of magneto-optic switching and magneto-optic storage devices.

Persistent currents of superfluidic light in a four-level coherent atomic medium

Nuno A. Silva, José Tito Mendonça, Ariel Guerreiro

In this work, we investigate the superfluidic properties of light propagating in a four-level coherent atomic medium. The model is derived under the paraxial approximation in the form of a generalized nonlinear Schrödinger equation and features spatially controllable and quantum-enhanced optical properties, which can offer new possibilities in the field of optical analogue systems. In particular, we use this versatility to study the dynamics of an optical vortex beam confined in a nontrivial connected geometry, finding numerical evidence of another superfluidic signature analogue: the persistent current of light.
