Abstract

A)A new beam-splitter on the basement of coherent scattering of two-and three-level atom in the field of standing amplitude-modulated waves is investigated. A detailed study of three cases of amplitude modulation of practical importance is presented: harmonic modulation, triangle pulse modulation and «meander» modulation. It is demonstrated that for all the three regimes it is possible to choose such an amplitude and modulation frequency that the coherent component amplitude with defined values of the atom pulses is essentially increased. The influence of the initial phase on the character of wave packet scattering has been also investigated.

Scale splitting control for an atom wave packet coherent scattering in modulated standing wave

Sergey Borisenok, Yu. Rozhdestvensky, G.G. Udov

Recently, coherent splitting has been achieved by scattering of an atom wave packet in standing wave with modulated intensity. We demonstrate now as the result of such scattering depends on the initial modulation phase, e.g., the scattering pictures are different for 'cos' and 'sin' modulation functions and the increasing of coherent components with defined atom momentum occurs for 'cos' modulation function only. As a result, we have reached the conclusion that the shape of the pulse modulation does not influence to the scattering pictures, and for any modulation function we can always choose such values of amplitude modulation when only two components will be dominated in the scattering.

Coherent atomic beam splitter control for nano-scale atom wave packet lithography

Sergey Borisenok, Yu. Rozhdestvensky

Atomic beam splitter needs for the practical realization of nano-scale lithography by coherent scattering of the atoms. We consider the different types of atomic beam splitters, which could be used for the creation of the space structures with nano-scale period. We concentrate to a few main schemes of an interaction between an atom beam and optical radiation, which can produce a large angle splitting of atom beam into only two main momentum components: multi Bragg scattering an atom wave packet in standing wave; coherent splitting by scattering of an atom wave packet in standing wave with modulated intensity, when the intensity of the standing wave changes harmonically. We discuss also the experimental possibility of an atom selection in internal states for obtaining of space periodical structure with high clearance.

Diffraction of the wave packet of a three-level Λ atom in the field of a multifrequency standing light wave

Anatoly S. Pazgalev, Yu. V. Rozhdestvenskiǐ

The diffraction of the wave packet of a three-level atom in a multifrequency optical radiation field is studied. A new type of coherent beam splitter for atoms that employs the scattering of a wave packet in the field of four standing light waves with different spatial shifts is proposed on this basis. It is shown that this interaction scheme makes it possible to obtain large splittings (>100ℏ k ) of the wave packet of a three-level Λ atom in momentum space into only two coherent components. In addition, the atoms in these coherent components are in long-lived atomic states, which substantially simplifies the experimental implementation of such a splitter.

Multi-zone coherent atomic beam splitter control by raman transitions

Sergey Borisenok, Yu. Rozhdestvensky, Yu.D. Selishchev

Control in multi-zone atomic beam splitters needs for the practical realization of nanoscale lithography by coherent scattering of the atoms. We propose an effective atomic beam splitter based on the interaction of three-level atom with the field of the standing optical waves having relative spatial shifts. It is shown, that using of several interaction zones of the standing waves having the different spatial shift it make possible to reach the splitting 2n/spl planck/k (where n is the number of zone) in each of lower three-level /spl Lambda/-atom state.

Nonlinear motion of cold atoms in an amplitude modulated standing laser field

M. Hug, Gerard J Milburn

Summary form only given. We investigate the nonlinear motion of two-level atoms in an amplitude modulated standing laser field in the limit of large detuning. In this case the center-of-mass-motion is described by the Hamiltonian H(p,q,t)=p/sup 2//2/spl middot//spl kappa/(1/spl middot/2/spl epsiv/sint)cosq, where p and q denote scaled dimensionless momentum and position, t time, and /spl kappa/ and /spl epsiv/ are the parameters defining the depth of the standing wave and the strength of the amplitude modulation, respectively. This system is prominent for proposing the appearance of coherent tunneling between nonlinear resonances of the corresponding classical stroboscopic phase-space map. That means a wave packet initially confined near one such resonance will stay localized and, depending on the modulation parameters will coherently tunnel between delocalized resonances.

Amplitude modulated coherent irradiation of a three-level atom

David Thomas Pegg

The author examines the problem of an unequally-spaced three-level atom irradiated by two laser beams of arbitrary intensity which have passed through the same modulator, and identify some solvable limiting cases. They find in particular the time evolution of the atom under the action of intense arbitrary shaped pulses with different Rabi frequencies, and also of tuned sinusoidally modulated beams. In the former case the author finds it is possible to achieve direct population transfer between the outer states without affecting the population of the middle state, and in the latter they find a resonance effect when the modulation frequency is in the region of a combination of the two different Rabi frequencies.
