Abstract

We study the tri-partite genuine Rényi multi-entropy of fully symmetric Gaussian states as a function of the squeezing parameter for different total number of bosonic modes under different subsystem configurations. Exact results for a few modes are obtained, and we conjecture an asymptotic formula at the limit of large squeezing parameter as a function of the replica index $n$, while also finding subleading subsystem-size dependent terms for $n=3$ under a specific tripartition. We analytically show that the genuine $n=2$ Rényi multi-entropy of any pure bosonic Gaussian states is zero for any number of modes and for any tripartition. Furthermore, to investigate the dependence on subsystem size, we plot the curve of genuine Rényi multi-entropy as a function of the number of modes in the subsystems while keeping the total number of modes fixed. We discuss differences and similarities between this result and studies of the multi-entropy curve for Haar random states. In particular, we identify a subsystem size configuration related with the multi-entropy time in an evaporating black hole for which the behavior of the genuine multi-entropy changes.

Black Hole Multi-Entropy Curves

Norihiro Iizuka, Lin, Simon, Mitsuhiro Nishida

We investigate the multi-partite entanglement structure of an evaporating black hole and its Hawking radiation by dividing the radiation into finer subsystems. We approximate an evaporating black hole and its radiation with a Haar-random state for this purpose. Using the multi-entropy of these configurations, we define a black hole multi-entropy curve, which describes how the multi-entropy changes during the black hole evaporation. This black hole multi-entropy curve is a natural generalization of the Page curve since the multi-entropy reduces to the entanglement entropy for the bi-partite case. The multi-entropy curve keeps increasing in the early time. It reaches the maximum value at the multi-entropy time, which is later than the Page time, and starts to decrease. However, it does not decrease to zero at the end of the black hole evaporation. This non-zero value of the multi-entropy represents the secret entanglement between Hawking particles.

Average Rényi entanglement entropy in Gaussian boson sampling

Jason Youm, Joseph T. Iosue, Adam Ehrenberg +2 more

Recently, many experiments have been conducted with the goal of demonstrating a quantum advantage over classical computation. One popular framework for these experiments is Gaussian boson sampling, where quadratic photonic input states are interfered via a linear optical unitary and subsequently measured in the Fock basis. In this paper, we study the modal entanglement of the output states in this framework just before the measurement stage. Specifically, we compute Page curves as measured by various Rényi- α entropies, where the Page curve describes the entanglement between two partitioned groups of output modes averaged over all linear optical unitaries. We derive these formulas for α = 1 (i.e., the von Neumann entropy) and, more generally, for all positive integer α , in the asymptotic limit of infinite number of modes and for input states that are composed of single-mode-squeezed-vacuum state with equal squeezing strength. We then analyze the limiting behaviors when the squeezing is small and large. Having determined the averages, we then explicitly calculate the Rényi- α variance for integers α > 1 and are able to show that these entropies are weakly typical.

Black hole as a multipartite entangler: multi-entropy in AdS${}_3$/CFT${}_2$

Takanori Anegawa, Shota Suzuki, Kotaro Tamaoka

We study multipartite entanglement in typical pure states holographically dual to pure BTZ black holes, using multi-entropy and its ``genuine'' version. In the bulk, these quantities are computed by minimal geodesic networks (so-called Steiner trees). We find that at sufficiently high temperature, the genuine tripartite multi-entropy exhibits a volume-law scaling in sharp contrast to vacuum AdS$_3$, where the genuine contribution is universal and size-independent. Moreover, we find another phase: once one subsystem exceeds half of the total system, the leading genuine tripartite entanglement vanishes and reduces to that for global AdS${}_3$. This transition is indeed consistent with recent arguments for distillable EPR pairs in tripartite Haar-random states. Motivated by finite-cutoff holography, we further study the radial cutoff dependence of multi-entropy and show that genuine multi-entropy acquires nontrivial size dependence even for the tripartite case in AdS${}_3$. As a byproduct, we also observe an intriguing ``area-law'' contribution to multi-entropy that is relevant to vacuum AdS${}_3$.

Page curves and typical entanglement in linear optics

Joseph T. Iosue, Adam Ehrenberg, Dominik Hangleiter +2 more

Bosonic Gaussian states are a special class of quantum states in an infinite dimensional Hilbert space that are relevant to universal continuous-variable quantum computation as well as to near-term quantum sampling tasks such as Gaussian Boson Sampling. In this work, we study entanglement within a set of squeezed modes that have been evolved by a random linear optical unitary. We first derive formulas that are asymptotically exact in the number of modes for the Rényi-2 Page curve (the average Rényi-2 entropy of a subsystem of a pure bosonic Gaussian state) and the corresponding Page correction (the average information of the subsystem) in certain squeezing regimes. We then prove various results on the typicality of entanglement as measured by the Rényi-2 entropy by studying its variance. Using the aforementioned results for the Rényi-2 entropy, we upper and lower bound the von Neumann entropy Page curve and prove certain regimes of entanglement typicality as measured by the von Neumann entropy. Our main proofs make use of a symmetry property obeyed by the average and the variance of the entropy that dramatically simplifies the averaging over unitaries. In this light, we propose future research directions where this symmetry might also be exploited. We conclude by discussing potential applications of our results and their generalizations to Gaussian Boson Sampling and to illuminating the relationship between entanglement and computational complexity.

Genuine Multi-Entropy in the Toric Code

Sriram Akella, Norihiro Iizuka, Akihiro Miyata

We study genuine multi-entropy as a diagnostic of multipartite entanglement in the toric code, which provides a controlled setting for probing multipartite structures in topologically ordered states. Our main question is whether genuine multi-entropy captures information that is not reducible to conventional lower-party entropic data, such as topological entanglement entropy. We first analyze toric-code ground states that admit a stabilizer-state description, where the relevant quantities can be evaluated exactly. We conjecture that, for stabilizer states and $\mathtt{q}\ge4$, the $\mathtt{q}$-partite genuine multi-entropy at replica index $n<\mathtt{q}$ collapses to a linear combination of multi-entropies involving at most $\mathtt{q}-2$ parties. We establish this pattern explicitly for $\mathtt{q}=4$ in the toric code stabilizer sector: for $n=2,3$, the genuine multi-entropy is proportional to the tripartite information $I_3$ and, for the Kitaev-Preskill partition, contains no independent genuine four-partite information beyond that captured by the topological entanglement entropy. At $n=4$, however, this reduction breaks down: the genuine multi-entropy is no longer proportional to $I_3$, but remains a topological invariant of the toric-code stabilizer ground states under Kitaev-Preskill-preserving deformations that do not change whether the numbers of vertex- and plaquette-type junctions coincide. For generic non-stabilizer superpositions within the ground-state manifold and for coherent superpositions of local excitations, the low-$n$ reduction also fails. These results show that genuine multi-entropy probes multipartite entanglement structure beyond the tripartite information, and hence beyond the topological entanglement entropy in the Kitaev-Preskill partition, whereas for stabilizer states at low replica index it reduces to lower-partite entropic data.

A fully Gaussian quantum Stein's lemma

Filippo Girardi, Jacopo Rizzo, Leah Turner +2 more

A central yet mysterious problem in quantum information is the asymptotic distinguishability of quantum states under restricted measurements. Here we look at asymptotic asymmetric hypothesis testing for general multi-mode bosonic Gaussian states restricted to arbitrary collective Gaussian measurements. We establish a single-letter formula for the Stein exponent for many pairs of states, featuring two distinct contributions, corresponding to first and second moments, respectively. Remarkably, the Gaussian-measured relative entropy exhibits genuine non-additivity, but the only effect of additivity violations is to asymptotically decouple first and second moments. We prove this by establishing sufficient conditions for additivity of the second-moment term via novel log-determinant matrix inequalities. Our results not only identify a single-letter expression for the Gaussian Stein exponent in a wide range of practical situations, but also rule out any possible advantage from collective Gaussian measurements when considering centred Gaussian states.
