Abstract

High-purity and bright single-photon sources are important for quantum information processing and precision measurement. We propose a collectively enhanced universal photon-blockade scheme in a multi-emitter two-photon Tavis--Cummings system. Independent coherent drives of the cavity and collective emitter enable destructive interference between two-photon excitation pathways, while collective coupling supplies level anharmonicity. Full-quantum master-equation simulations, the Holstein--Primakoff approximation, and a non-Hermitian probability-amplitude analysis yield the optimal conditions: cavity resonance together with phase and amplitude matching. Compared with a purely collective blockade, the proposed scheme lowers \(g^{(2)}(0)\), and essentially preserves the single-photon population. As the emitter number \(N\) increases, the optimal point remains at \(Δ_c=0\), while the minimum correlation follows \(g_{\min}^{(2)}(0)\propto N^{-2}\). By contrast, unconventional photon blockade shifts away from resonance as \(N\) increases, limiting its purity improvement and brightness. In the weak-drive regime, universal blockade obeys \(g^{(2)}(0)\propto\varepsilon_a^2\), owing to a higher-order bypass through the three-excitation manifold. The drive strength therefore provides an additional purity--brightness control, although the interference mechanism makes the scheme more sensitive to dissipation-rate mismatch. Our results establish a scalable route to bright, high-purity, and tunable single-photon emission in multi-emitter cavity-QED systems.

Hybrid photon blockade with hyperradiance in a two-qubit cavity QED system

Zhuorui Wang

We investigate a hybrid photon blockade (HPB) scheme in a driven two-qubit cavity QED system arising from the combination of eigenenergy-level anharmonicity (ELA) and quantum destructive interference (QDI). By tuning the qubit and drive detunings, we identify parameter regimes that combine the brightness of ELA-based conventional photon blockade with the strong antibunching of QDI-based unconventional photon blockade. Interestingly, these regimes are accompanied by hyperradiance, indicating that inter-emitter correlations give rise to enhanced collective emission. The HPB mechanism retains parametric generality under coupling asymmetry and is accessible through detuning control, offering a feasible route toward high-quality single-photon sources.

Hybrid photon blockade with hyperradiance in two-qubit cavity QED system

We investigate a hybrid photon blockade (HPB) scheme in a driven two-qubit cavity QED system arising from the combination of eigenenergy-level anharmonicity (ELA) and quantum destructive interference (QDI). By tuning the detuning of a single qubit and pumping field, we identify precise parametric regimes that fully integrate the advantages of high brightness in ELA-based conventional photon blockade and strong antibunching in QDI-based unconventional photon blockade. Interestingly, these regimes are accompanied by hyperradiance, indicating that inter-emitter correlations give rise to enhanced collective emission. The HPB mechanism exhibits parametric generality across varying coupling asymmetries and remains accessible via detuning control, offering a feasible route for generating high-quality single-photon source in diverse quantum platforms.

Towards High-Brightness Perfect Photon Blockade

Zhi-Guang Lu, Xin-You Lü

Single-photon sources with high single-photon purity and high brightness are key elements of many future quantum technologies. While photon blockade (PB) is widely exploited in the development of such sources, achieving the coexistence of high purity and high brightness remains a long-standing challenge. Here, we identify a novel mechanism for high-brightness PB and demonstrate that near-ideal purity and near-ideal brightness can be simultaneously achieved in an extended nondegenerate two-photon Jaynes-Cummings model with two-body and three-body interactions. This mechanism is underpinned by a distinctive energy-level structure arising from the combined action of the two interactions. The energy levels in the multi-excitation manifold essentially retain a harmonic ladder of degenerate doublets, whereas in the single-excitation subspace the doublet degeneracy is lifted, with a finite splitting between the two levels. Consequently, when one bosonic mode is driven by a coherent continuous-wave pump, the former degeneracy enables the other bosonic mode to exhibit near-perfect PB even in the strong driving regime, while the latter splitting allows the mean photon number of that mode to approach unity. Our proposed scheme overcomes the outstanding challenge and offers a promising pathway toward realizing ideal single-photon sources.

Conventional photon blockade in the dispersive limit for Tavis-Cummings model

Rui Hou, Wei Zhang, Dong-Yang Wang +4 more

In the dispersive limit, the conventional photon blockade effect cannot be realized due to the absence of photon nonlinearity. We propose a scheme to recover the photon blockade effect of the dispersive Tavis-Cummings model, which makes it possible to realize the conventional photon blockade effect in the dispersive limit. It is shown that both single-photon and two-photon blockade effects can be recovered at appropriate qubit driving strength. The optimal qubit drive strength and cavity field drive detuning are given analytically. All analyses can be verified by numerical simulation, and the strongest photon blockade effect with the largest average photon number can be produced when the single excitation resonance condition is satisfied. Moreover, we find that the achieved two-photon blockade effect is relatively robust to thermal noise. Our proposal is able to obtain single-photon sources with high purity and high brightness and has great potential for applications in quantum communication processing.

Parametric-interference control of single- and two-photon blockade in a Jaynes–Cummings system

Hongyu Lin, Xiaoqian Wang, Feng Gao +2 more

Abstract Following the coupling-spanning resonance-and-interference construction introduced by Zhou et al , we use ‘universal’ only in this inherited finite-coupling sense. Here we show that the complex amplitude of a parametric drive provides direct control of this interference in a coherently driven Jaynes–Cummings (JC) system. In the weak-driving limit, imposing C 2 g = 0 on the lossless one-excitation reference line gives an analytical pump condition Λ 1 . Over 0.05 ⩽ g / κ ⩽ 8 , the full steady states satisfy the adopted 1PB photon-statistics characterization. The required pump remains finite as g → 0 , but the exactly decoupled cavity is Gaussian and serves only as a Gaussian-interference antibunching reference, not as JC photon blockade. At the two-excitation reference resonance, imposing C 3 g = 0 while retaining C 2 g ≠ 0 gives a second analytical pump condition. Full steady-state master-equation calculations, including photon-number probabilities, identify finite parameter regions satisfying both the correlation and equal-mean Poisson criteria for two-photon blockade (2PB). A matched-Gaussian diagnostic shows that the weak-coupling end remains nearly Gaussian, whereas at stronger coupling the matched Gaussian state no longer reproduces the full g ( 2 ) ( 0 ) . For fixed system and coherent-drive parameters, the two pump values Λ 1 and Λ 2 select steady states with 1PB and 2PB statistics. The fixed-parameter 2PB endpoint has a small two-photon probability and is not a brightness-optimized photon-pair source; at a vacuum-input extraction port, normalized output correlations equal the intracavity values.

Unconventional photon blockade in the two-photon Jaynes–Cummings model with two-frequency cavity drivings and atom driving

Xin 欣 Liu 刘, Meng-Yu 梦雨 Tian 田, Xiao-Ning 晓宁 Cui 崔 +1 more

In a two-frequency cavity driving and atom driving atom-cavity system, we find the photon blockade effect. In a truncated eigenstates space, we calculate the zero-delay second-order correlation function of the cavity mode analytically and obtain an optimal condition for the photon blockade. By including three transition pathways, we find that higher excitations of the cavity mode can be further suppressed and the zero-delay second-order correlation function can be reduced additionally. Based on the master equation, we simulate the system evolution and find that the analytical solutions match well with the numerical results. Our scheme is robust with small fluctuations of parameters and may be used as a new type of single photon source.
