Abstract

We perform an extensive analysis of the quantum correlations carried by the qubit-qubit-qutrit pure state arising in the decay of a massive scalar into a fermion-antifermion pair and a massive gauge boson, $H \to f \bar f V$, specialising to the Higgs boson decay $h \to τ^- τ^+ Z$. Working with the exact tree-level spin state and its systematic expansion around the massless-fermion limit, we obtain analytic control over the entire phase space: the bipartite entanglement measures, the genuine $2 \otimes 2 \otimes 3$ entanglement structure (the Miyake classification), as well as the Bell-inequality violations and the non-stabiliserness (magic) are all mapped and reproduced by compact formulas. The bipartite measures exhibit a monogamy-like trade-off between the fermion pair and the fermion-boson pairs. The state is genuinely $2 \otimes 2 \otimes 3$ entangled over almost the entire phase space, most strongly in the collinear regions. We derive, for the first time, semi-analytical expressions for the tight $4 \times 4 \times 2$ Bell inequalities of the $2 \otimes 2 \otimes 3$ system, generalising the optimisation previously available only for three qubits, and find that the local-hidden-variable bound is violated over the entire phase space, reaching within a few per cent of the quantum bound at the upper endpoint of the di-tau mass spectrum. We further extend the stabiliser Rényi entropy and the non-local magic to systems with unequal local dimensions, and show that the near-endpoint state carries almost exactly one bit of non-local magic, which peaks at $\log_2 \frac{27}{7} \simeq 1.95$ in the collinear regions. The differential decay rate concentrates precisely in the most nonclassical region of the phase space.

Three-body non-locality in particle decays

Paweł Horodecki, Kazuki Sakurai, Abhyoudai S. Shaleena +1 more

A bstract The exploration of entanglement and Bell non-locality among multi-particle quantum systems offers a profound avenue for testing and understanding the limits of quantum mechanics and local real hidden variable theories. In this work, we examine non-local correlations among three massless spin-1/2 particles generated from the three-body decay of a massive particle, utilizing a framework based on general four-fermion interactions. By analyzing several inequalities, we address the detection of deviations from quantum mechanics as well as violations of two key hidden variable theories: fully local-real and bipartite local-real theories. Our approach encompasses the standard Mermin inequality and the tight 4 × 4 × 2 inequality, providing a comprehensive framework for probing three-partite non-local correlations. Our findings provide deeper insights into the boundaries of classical and quantum theories in three-particle systems, advancing the understanding of non-locality in particle decays and its relevance to particle physics and quantum foundations.

Unfolding quantum entanglement from $h\to ZZ^*\to jj\ell\ell$ at a muon collider

Songshaptak De, Atri Dey, Tousik Samui

We explore the potential to study quantum entanglement through Bell-type inequalities in Higgs boson decays at a future muon collider. Our analysis focuses on the channel $μ^+ μ^- \to ν\barν h \to ν\barν ZZ^*$, with one $Z$ decaying to charged leptons and the other decaying hadronically into jets. We study the violation of the CGLMP inequality using the optimal Bell operator for the bipartite qutrit system from $h \to ZZ^*$. The entanglement measure $\mathcal{I}_3$ is constructed from spin-correlated angular observables of the $Z$ decay products. An unfolding method on the angular variables is applied to correct for hadronization and detector effects, recovering the advantage of the hadronic mode with higher event yield and reduced uncertainty. The study is performed at 1, 3, and 10 TeV centre-of-mass energies, assuming 10 ab$^{-1}$ integrated luminosity for each case. At 1 TeV, we use a boosted decision tree for signal isolation, while at higher energies, simple cut-based analyses are sufficient. We find clear Bell inequality violation with the expected values $\mathcal{I}_3 = 2.625 \pm 0.012$, $2.623 \pm 0.004$, and $2.582 \pm 0.010$ for the 1, 3, and 10 TeV machines, respectively. Overall, a strong level of entanglement close to the maximum achievable value of 2.9149 for a two-qutrit system can be measured with very small uncertainties due to the large event yield in the hadronic mode.

Non-Local Magic Resources for Fermionic Gaussian States

Daniele Iannotti, Beatrice Magni, Riccardo Cioli +2 more

Entanglement and magic are fundamental resources that capture the complexity of quantum many-body systems. Non-local magic isolates the irreducible nonstabilizerness intrinsically tied to entanglement. However, evaluating this quantity generally requires a prohibitive minimization over the full Hilbert space, making it computationally inaccessible beyond a few qubits. Here, we overcome this bottleneck by establishing a closed-form expression for the non-local stabilizer entropies of fermionic Gaussian states over local Gaussian unitaries, which we prove at Rényi index $α=2$ for arbitrary subsystem size, and which can be evaluated in polynomial time directly from the eigenvalues of the reduced Majorana covariance matrix. We apply this framework to characterize fermionic non-local magic across diverse physical regimes: we derive an exact Page-like curve for typical random states, reveal logarithmic scaling at the quantum critical point of the XY model, and establish a quasiparticle picture for magic generation during out-of-equilibrium quantum quenches. Crucially, because our result relies solely on two-point correlation functions, it provides a scalable route for the experimental estimation of fermionic non-local magic in large-scale quantum processors via fermionic shadow tomography.

Tripartite entanglement and Bell non-locality in loop-induced Higgs boson decays

Roberto A. Morales

Abstract In this article, we study quantum entanglement properties of the three-body $$H\rightarrow \gamma l{\bar{l}}$$ H → γ l l ¯ decays (for $$l=e,\mu ,\tau $$ l = e , μ , τ ) within the context of the Standard Model augmented with CP-violating interactions in the lepton Yukawa sector. Our aim is to elucidate the distribution of entanglement between the final photon, lepton and antilepton across the phase-space. These rare Higgs boson decays occur at 1-loop level, presenting a unique opportunity to scrutinize quantum correlations of fundamental interactions in tripartite systems by computing concurrence measures and investigating Bell non-locality. Moreover, we explore post-decay and autodistillation phenomena. Multipartite entanglement measures have much richer structure than those in the bipartite case, thus deserve more attention in collider phenomenology. In this line, we analyze here novel observables for these three-body Higgs boson decays, which can be extended to other multiparticle systems within the high-energy regime. We found that entanglement manifests among final particles, occasionally achieving a maximally entangled state in specific kinematical configurations. Also, these decay channels are promising for Bell non-locality tests but CP-effects are suppressed by lepton masses in this kind of observables.

Quantum Tomography and Entanglement in Semi-Leptonic $h\to VV^*$ Decays at Higher Orders

Dorival Gonçalves, Ajay Kaladharan, Alberto Navarro

Angular correlations in Higgs decays to electroweak gauge bosons, $h \to ZZ^*, WW^*$, provide a powerful probe of both new physics effects and quantum information observables. We present a systematic study of semi-leptonic Higgs decays $h \to V V^* \to \ell^+\ell^- q\bar{q}$ and $\ell^\pm ν_\ell q\bar{q}'$, including finite final state fermion masses, NLO QCD, and NLO electroweak corrections. We show that finite final state quark masses can induce effects that go beyond the two-qutrit description in more inclusive regimes, while remaining controllable with suitable kinematic selections. QCD corrections lead to modest percent-level shifts, whereas electroweak corrections can significantly modify the angular structure, particularly in the $h\to ZZ^*$ channels. We assess the impact of these effects on the reconstructed density matrix and entanglement measures, finding that, although they modify the angular observables, the semi-leptonic channels are better approximated by a two-qutrit description than the fully leptonic decay $h\to e^+e^-μ^+μ^-$.

Nonviolation of Bell's inequality in translation invariant systems

Thiago Rodrigues de Oliveira, A. Saguia, M. S. Sarandy

The nature of quantum correlations in strongly correlated systems has been a subject of intense research. In particular, it has been realized that entanglement and quantum discord are present at quantum phase transitions and are able to characterize them. Surprisingly, it has been shown for a number of different systems that qubit pairwise states, even when highly entangled, do not violate Bell's inequalities, being in this sense local. Here we show that such a local character of quantum correlations traces back to the the monogamy trade-off obeyed by bipartite Bell correlations, being in fact general for translation invariant systems. We illustrate this result in a quantum spin chain with a soft breaking of translation symmetry. In addition, we provide an extension of the monogamy inequality to the N -qubit scenario, showing that the bound increases with N and providing examples of its saturation through uniformly generated random pure states.
