Abstract

Abstract In this article, we study quantum entanglement properties of the three-body $$H\rightarrow \gamma l{\bar{l}}$$ H → γ l l ¯ decays (for $$l=e,\mu ,\tau $$ l = e , μ , τ ) within the context of the Standard Model augmented with CP-violating interactions in the lepton Yukawa sector. Our aim is to elucidate the distribution of entanglement between the final photon, lepton and antilepton across the phase-space. These rare Higgs boson decays occur at 1-loop level, presenting a unique opportunity to scrutinize quantum correlations of fundamental interactions in tripartite systems by computing concurrence measures and investigating Bell non-locality. Moreover, we explore post-decay and autodistillation phenomena. Multipartite entanglement measures have much richer structure than those in the bipartite case, thus deserve more attention in collider phenomenology. In this line, we analyze here novel observables for these three-body Higgs boson decays, which can be extended to other multiparticle systems within the high-energy regime. We found that entanglement manifests among final particles, occasionally achieving a maximally entangled state in specific kinematical configurations. Also, these decay channels are promising for Bell non-locality tests but CP-effects are suppressed by lepton masses in this kind of observables.

Tripartite Entanglement in $e^+ e^- \to t \bar{t} Z$

Dorival Gonçalves, Alberto Navarro, Kazuki Sakurai

Multipartite entanglement is a uniquely quantum form of correlation that captures collective properties of a composite quantum state beyond those encoded in its bipartite subsystems. We investigate this phenomenon in the process $e^+e^-\to t\bar tZ$ at a future lepton collider, where the final state spins span the tripartite Hilbert space $\mathscr{H} = \mathbb{C}^2 \otimes \mathbb{C}^2 \otimes \mathbb{C}^3$. Starting from the Standard Model helicity amplitudes, we reconstruct the full $12\times 12$ spin density matrix and characterise its entanglement structure through one-to-one negativities, one-to-other negativities, and the genuine multipartite negativity, evaluated at three increasingly inclusive levels of phase space integration. Pairwise entanglement is generally suppressed relative to the collective (one-to-other) and the genuine multipartite entanglement, and all measures decrease as more kinematic information is integrated out. Assuming quantum tomography in the fully leptonic decay channel at $\sqrt{s}=1$ TeV, we find that collective entanglement should be accessible at a realistic high-luminosity polarised lepton collider. By contrast, certifying genuine multipartite entanglement is more challenging, with only limited sensitivity projected for a specific polarisation benchmark within the expected ILC luminosity. The study establishes $e^+e^-\to t \bar{t}Z$ as an attractive laboratory for probing multipartite entanglement in high-energy collisions and provides a general mixed state framework that applies to any tripartite spin system.

Tripartite entanglement in $H \to ZZ,WW$ decays

J. A. Aguilar–Saavedra

The decays of the Higgs boson produce a state in which the spins of the decay products and the orbital angular momentum ($L$) are highly entangled. We obtain the tripartite density operator, as well as reduced operators, for the decay into two weak bosons. For $H \to ZZ$ in the four-lepton final state we also estimate the statistical sensitivity at the Large Hadron Collider and future upgrades, using a binned method to reconstruct the density operators from distributions. With the expected Run 3 data, establishing genuine tripartite entanglement would be possible beyond the $5σ$ level. The violation of Bell inequalities involving the spins of the two weak bosons could also be established beyond the $5σ$ level.

Disentangling new physics with quantum entanglement in t t ¯ production at future lepton colliders

Masato Arai, Kentarou Mawatari, Nobuchika Okada

We investigate quantum entanglement and Bell-inequality violation in top-antitop pair production at future lepton colliders such as the International Linear Collider and multi-TeV muon colliders. Within the Standard Model (SM), the process proceeds through s -channel γ and Z exchange and exhibits characteristic spin-correlation patterns that encode a nontrivial amount of entanglement. We then examine how these features are modified in several well-motivated extensions of the SM; (i) a neutral scalar mediator that couples to charged leptons and top quarks via Yukawa interactions and contributes as an additional s -channel exchange, (ii) the minimal gauged U ( 1 ) B − L model, which introduces a new neutral gauge boson Z ′ coupling vectorially to SM fermions, and (iii) a Randall-Sundrum scenario, in which the exchange of massive Kaluza-Klein gravitons arising from a warped extra dimension induces additional spin-dependent interactions. For all cases, we evaluate quantum-information observables including the entanglement marker, the concurrence, and the maximal Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt parameter, and study their dependence on the center-of-mass energy, scattering angle, and model parameters. We find that, relative to the SM expectation, the entanglement is typically reduced in the scalar-mediator scenario, while sizable deviations can arise in the U ( 1 ) B − L and Randall-Sundrum cases for phenomenologically relevant regions of parameter space. These results demonstrate the potential of quantum-information observables as sensitive probes of new particles and their interaction patterns in future lepton colliders.

Constraining new physics in entangled two-qubit systems: top-quark, tau-lepton and photon pairs

Marco E. Fabbrichesi, Roberto Floreanini B, Emidio Gabrielli A

Abstract The measurement of quantum entanglement can provide a new and most sensitive probe to physics beyond the Standard Model. We use the concurrence of the top-quark pair spin states produced at colliders to constrain the magnetic dipole term in the coupling between top quark and gluons, that of $$\tau $$ τ -lepton pair spin states to bound contact interactions and that of $$\tau $$ τ -lepton pairs or two-photons spin states from the decay of the Higgs boson in trying to distinguish between CP-even and odd couplings. These four examples show the power of the new approach as well as its limitations. We show that differences in the entanglement in the top-quark and $$\tau $$ τ -lepton pair production cross sections can provide constraints better than those previously estimated from total cross sections or classical correlations. Instead, the final states in the decays of the Higgs boson remain maximally entangled even in the presence of CP-odd couplings and cannot be used to set bounds on new physics. We discuss the violation of Bell inequalities featured in all four processes.
