Abstract

A bstract We develop a non-nested Bethe ansatz description of rational 𝔤𝔩 ℓ spin chains in the vector representation. Starting from the quantum spectral curve and the separation-of-variables framework, we derive closed systems of Bethe equations involving only the momentum-carrying Bethe roots. The construction is worked out explicitly for the 𝔤𝔩 3 and 𝔤𝔩 4 spin chains and then generalized to arbitrary rank. A central result of this work is the identification of a recursive hierarchy associated with the fundamental transfer matrices. The hierarchy is generated by regularity conditions of the lower transfer matrices and closes through a universal rank- ℓ equation ℛ ℓ = 0. This equation replaces the final level of the conventional nested Bethe ansatz and eliminates all auxiliary Bethe roots. Consequently, the complete spectral data of an eigenstate are encoded solely in the first Baxter polynomial Q 1 ( u ). We further obtain explicit expressions for the eigenvalues of all fundamental transfer matrices in terms of the momentum-carrying roots alone. The resulting formulation provides a compact characterization of the spectrum of rational 𝔤𝔩 ℓ spin chains and reveals a direct connection between the quantum spectral curve, transfer-matrix fusion relations, and a truncated Q -system underlying the non-nested description. Finally, we investigate the quasi-classical (Gaudin) limit of the non-nested Bethe equations. For the 𝔤𝔩 3 spin chain, we show that the leading non-trivial contribution gives rise to Gaudin equations whose pole-free form naturally defines a scalar third-order 𝔤𝔩 3 oper.

The nested Bethe ansatz for ‘all’ open spin chains with diagonal boundary conditions

S. Belliard, E. Ragoucy

We present in a unified and detailed way the nested Bethe ansatz for open spin chains based on(super)algebras, with arbitrary representations (i.e., 'spins') on each site of the chain and diagonal boundary matrices (K + (u), K -(u)).The nested Bethe ansatz applies for a general K -(u), but a particular form of the K + (u) matrix. The construction extends and unifies the results already obtained for open spin chains based on the fundamental representation and for some particular superspin chains. We give the eigenvalues, Bethe equations and the explicit form of the Bethe vectors for the corresponding models. The Bethe vectors are also expressed using a trace formula.

Open spin chains with generic integrable boundaries: Baxter equation and Bethe ansatz completeness from separation of variables

N Kitanine, Jean Michel Maillet, Giuliano Niccoli

We solve the longstanding problem of defining a functional characterization of the spectrum of the transfer matrix associated with the most general spin-1/2 representations of the six-vertex reflection algebra for general inhomogeneous chains. The corresponding homogeneous limit reproduces the spectrum of the Hamiltonian of the spin-1/2 open XXZ and XXX quantum chains with the most general integrable boundaries. The spectrum is characterized by a second order finite difference functional equation of Baxter type with an inhomogeneous term which vanishes only for some special but yet interesting non-diagonal boundary conditions. This functional equation is shown to be equivalent to the known separation of variables (SOV) representation, hence proving that it defines a complete characterization of the transfer matrix spectrum. The polynomial form of the Q -function allows us to show that a finite system of generalized Bethe equations can also be used to describe the complete transfer matrix spectrum.

The nested Bethe ansatz for ‘all’ closed spin chains

S. Belliard, E. Ragoucy

We present in a unified and detailed way the nested Bethe ansatz for closed spin chains based on or (super)algebras, with arbitrary representations (i.e. 'spins') on each site of the chain. In particular, the case of indecomposable representations of superalgebras is studied. The construction extends and unifies the results already obtained for spin chains based on or and for some particular super-spin chains. We give the Bethe equations and the form of the Bethe vectors. The case of gl (2|1), gl (2|2) and gl (4|4) superalgebras (that are related to AdS/CFT correspondence) is also detailed.

Separated variables and wave functions for rational gl(N) spin chains in the companion twist frame

Paul Ryan, Dmytro Volin

We propose a basis for rational gl(N) spin chains in an arbitrary rectangular representation (SA) that factorises the Bethe vectors into products of Slater determinants in Baxter Q-functions. This basis is constructed by repeated action of fused transfer matrices on a suitable reference state. We prove that it diagonalises the so-called B-operator; hence, the operatorial roots of the latter are the separated variables. The spectrum of the separated variables is also explicitly computed, and it turns out to be labeled by Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns. Our approach utilises a special choice of the spin chain twist which substantially simplifies derivations.

Analytical Bethe ansatz for closed and opengl(Script N)-spin chains in any representation

D. Arnaudon, Nicolas Crampé, Anastasia Doikou +2 more

We present an 'algebraic treatment' of the analytical Bethe ansatz. For this purpose, we introduce abstract monodromy and transfer matrices which provide an algebraic framework for the analytical Bethe ansatz. It allows us to deal with a generic gl ( )-spin chain possessing on each site an arbitrary gl ( )-representation. For open spin chains, we use the classification of the reflection matrices to treat all the diagonal boundary cases. As a result, we obtain the Bethe equations in their full generality for closed and open spin chains. The classifications of finite-dimensional irreducible representations for the Yangian (closed spin chains) and for the reflection algebras (open spin chains) are directly linked to the calculation of the transfer matrix eigenvalues. The local Hamiltonian associated with a given integrable spin chain needs to be computed case by case. A general formula is still lacking at that point. As examples, we recover the usual Hamiltonian and Bethe equations for closed and open spin chains; we treat the alternating spin chains and the closed spin chain with an impurity. We also compute the Hamiltonian and Bethe equations for the open spin chain model used in the context of large- N QCD.

On the Bethe ansatz for the Jaynes–Cummings–Gaudin model

O. Babelon, Dmitry Valer'evich Talalaev

We investigate the quantum Jaynes–Cummings model—a particular case of the Gaudin model with one of the spins being infinite. Starting from the Bethe equations we derive Baxter's equation and from it a closed set of equations for the eigenvalues of the commuting Hamiltonians. A scalar product in the separated variables representation is found for which the commuting Hamiltonians are Hermitian. In the semi-classical limit the Bethe roots accumulate on very specific curves in the complex plane. We give the equation for these curves. They build up a system of cuts modelling the spectral curve as a two-sheeted cover of the complex plane. Finally, we extend some of these results to the XXX Heisenberg spin chain.
