Abstract

We propose an scheme for directional single-photon source based on a chiral cavity-magnon system. In this system, the magnon mode in a single-crystal yttrium iron garnet (YIG) sphere is coupled to only one of two rotating microwave modes in the torus-shaped microwave cavity. When two-photon drives are applied to both ports of the waveguide, the chiral cavity-magnon coupling leads to an unconventional photon blockade in one propagation direction, resulting in directional single-photon emission. The emission direction of the single-photon source can be controlled by reversing the biased magnetic field. Furthermore, we further examine the effects of imperfect chiral cavity-magnon coupling and the coupling between the two cavity modes on the photon blockade behavior. The results show that the system retains robustness in the presence of these nonideal factors, and the unidirectional photon blockade effect remains clearly preserved.

Chiral cavity-magnonic system for the unidirectional emission of a tunable squeezed microwave field

Ji-kun Xie, Sheng-li Ma, Ya-long Ren +2 more

Unidirectional photon emission is crucial for constructing quantum networks and realizing scalable quantum information processing. In the present work an efficient scheme is developed for the unidirectional emission of a tunable squeezed microwave field. Our scheme is based on a chiral cavity magnonic system, where a magnon mode in a single-crystalline yttrium iron garnet (YIG) sphere is selectively coupled to one of the two degenerate rotating microwave modes in a torus-shaped cavity with the same chirality. With the YIG sphere driven by a two-color Floquet field to induce sidebands in the magnon-photon coupling, we show that the unidirectional emission of a tunable squeezed microwave field can be generated via the assistance of the dissipative magnon mode and a waveguide. Moreover, the direction of the proposed one-way emitter can be controlled on demand by reversing the biased magnetic field. Our work opens up an avenue to create and manipulate one-way nonclassical microwave radiation field and could find potential quantum technological applications.

Chirally-symmetric-like unconventional magnon blockade in a dissipative cavity-magnon system

Long‐Jiang Cong, Yi‐Xiong Luo, Zhipeng Cheng +4 more

We present a theoretically versatile and controllable framework for realizing chirally-symmetric-like unconventional magnon blockade within a cavity-magnon system composed of a yttrium iron garnet sphere and a cross-line microwave circuit, where the cavity mode is driven by a two-photon driving field. Under optimal conditions regarding the driving strength and phase of this two-photon field, we observe that magnon blockade exhibits chiral-like symmetry even in high-dissipation scenarios. However, the introduction of coherent coupling leads to energy level splitting that counteracts the energy level attraction induced by dissipative coupling, thereby diminishing the blockade effect. Furthermore, we clarify that the energy level attraction resulting from dissipative coupling remains invariant with respect to variations in the phase of this coupling coefficient. Our approach offers promising applications for tunable single-magnon sources and quantum information processing. • A versatile and controllable framework for realizing chirally-symmetric-like unconventional magnon blockade is investigated theoretically. • Under optimal conditions regarding the driving strength and phase of this two-photon field, magnon blockade exhibits chiral-like symmetry even in high-dissipation scenarios. • The introduction of coherent coupling leads to energy level splitting that counteracts the energy level attraction induced by dissipative coupling. • The energy level attraction resulting from dissipative coupling remains invariant with respect to variations in the phase of this coupling coefficient. • There are promising applications for tunable single-magnon sources and quantum information processing.

Directional emission of a broadband squeezed microwave field

Rong-teng Cao, Ji-kun Xie, Ya-long Ren +2 more

Broadband squeezed light is a valuable resource in the quantum information science community. Here, we propose an appealing method for the directional generation of broadband microwave squeezing based on hybrid magnonics, where multiple chiral cavity-magnonic subsystems are connected together through a bidirectional waveguide in a cascading way. The chirality arises from the selective coupling between the Kittel mode in the ferrimagnetic yttrium iron garnet sphere and one of the two degenerate counter-rotating microwave modes in a ring-shaped cavity. By introducing Floquet engineering to simultaneously induce red and blue sidebands in the photon-magnon coupling, the chiral squeezing-type interaction can be engineered in each cavity-magnonic subsystem. Considering all the photon-magnon couplings in the cascaded system with the same chirality, we show that a broadband squeezed microwave field can be emitted on demand to either of the two output ports along the waveguide. Compared with a single chiral cavity-magnonic system, both the squeezing amount and the bandwidth can be significantly enhanced through the cumulative effect of the cascaded system.

Magnonic entanglement in a chiral cavity-magnon coupling system

Kang, Yuxin, Xin Zeng, Wuji Zhang +3 more

The generation of magnon entanglement and squeezing plays a crucial role in quantum information processing. In this study, we propose a scheme based on a chiral cavity-magnon system, which consists of a torus-shaped cavity and two yttrium iron garnet spheres. The magnon mode of each yttrium iron garnet sphere is selectively coupled to one of the two degenerate rotating microwave modes of the toroidal cavity. The system aims to achieve entangled and squeezed magnon states through the mediation of the cavity. We further show that bipartite entanglement can be achieved by tuning external driving parameters. Additionally, our scheme does not rely on the magnon Kerr nonlinearity, which is usually extremely weak in yttrium iron garnet spheres. This work provides insights and methods for the research of quantum states in cavity-magnon systems.

Conventional and unconventional photon blockade via nonlinear and parametric amplification

Zhipeng Cheng, Long‐Jiang Cong, Yi‐Xiong Luo +4 more

We propose a hybrid cavity-magnon system scheme that integrates a yttrium iron garnet sphere with a microwave cavity filled with Kerr medium, aiming to achieve both conventional and unconventional photon blockade simultaneously. Our research demonstrates that by tuning the strength of the Kerr nonlinearity and adjusting the two-photon driving intensity, we can realize quantum effects associated with both types of photon blockade. Furthermore, through careful selection of system parameters, we have obtained optimal results for photon blockade under ideal conditions. This scheme fully exploits the advantages offered by both conventional and unconventional photon blockade mechanisms, effectively reducing the equal-time second-order photon correlation function while also achieving a higher mean photon number. It provides an alternative and experimentally feasible platform for preparing single-photon sources characterized by enhanced purity and brightness.

Enhancement of Photon Blockade in Cavity‐Magnon Systems via Coherent Feedback

Zhipeng Cheng, Long‐Jiang Cong, Yi‐Xiong Luo +7 more

Abstract This paper proposes a novel scheme to enhance the photon blockade effect in a cavity‐magnon system via coherent feedback loops. The system comprises a microwave cavity, a coherent feedback loop, and a yttrium iron garnet sphere. The cavity mode is coupled to the magnon mode via magnetic dipole interaction and is driven by both a two‐photon driving field and a weak pump field. The statistical properties of photons are characterized through the second‐order correlation function. Research findings indicate that coherent feedback significantly enhances the photon blockade effect, with the underlying physical mechanism being the effective reduction of the average two‐photon number. After introducing the two‐photon driving field, the optimal driving intensity and phase conditions for achieving photon blockade through analytical calculations are obtained. Under these optimal parameters, the proposed scheme demonstrates a low reflection coefficient, thereby ensuring excellent experimental feasibility and flexible controllability. This study offers new insights into the design of tunable single‐photon sources and establishes a novel research platform based on coherent feedback control for realizing photon blockade.
