D-grading and quasifree evolution

Abstract

Generalizing the relation between spin-systems and Fermi-systems on the lattice we construct for a spin-system with dimension d an algebra for which quasifree time-evolutions exist. With appropriate assumptions the gauge invariant subalgebra common for both algebras is invariant under this time-evolution and on this subalgebra is norm-asymptotically abelian.

Interacting Fermi systems in the tracial state

Heide Narnhofer

We argue that for Fermi systems on lattices or the continuum with interaction invariant under a kind of Galilei transformation the time evolution is either weakly asymptotically abelian or at least $η$-abelian in the tracial state but not norm asymptotically abelian.

We construct the fluctuation algebra for fermions in a quasifree state and its timedependence for quasifree evolutions. We find a Bose-Einstein-condensate and study its stability under interaction.

Time asymptotics for interacting systems

Heide Narnhofer

We argue that for Fermi systems with Galilei invariant interaction the time evolution is weakly asymptotically abelian in time invariant states but not norm asymptotically abelian.Consequences for the existence of invariant states are discussed.

Discontinuity of Continuum Fermion Dynamics

Oliver Siebert

We study the Heisenberg dynamics of continuum fermions in $\IR^d$ interacting through a pair potential. For a large class of nonconstant pair potentials and under suitable assumptions on the dispersion relation and external potential, we prove that the dynamics fails to be pointwise-norm continuous even on the gauge-invariant CAR algebra. An automatic-continuity argument then shows that neither the CAR algebra nor its gauge-invariant subalgebra is invariant under the dynamics, with non-invariance occurring for almost all times.

A note on adiabatic time evolution and quasi-static processes in translation-invariant quantum systems

Jak\v{s}i\'c, Vojkan, Claude‐Alain Pillet, Clément Tauber

We study the slowly varying, non-autonomous quantum dynamics of a translation invariant spin or fermion system on the lattice $\mathbb Z^d$. This system is assumed to be initially in thermal equilibrium, and we consider realizations of quasi-static processes in the adiabatic limit. By combining the Gibbs variational principle with the notion of quantum weak Gibbs states introduced in [Jak\v{s}i\'c, Pillet, Tauber, arXiv:2204.00440], we establish a number of general structural results regarding such realizations. In particular, we show that such a quasi-static process is incompatible with the property of approach to equilibrium studied in this previous work.

Heat flux in general quasifree fermionic right mover/left mover systems

Walter H. Aschbacher

With the help of time-dependent scattering theory on the observable algebra of infinitely extended quasifree fermionic chains, we introduce a general class of so-called right mover/left mover states which are inspired by the nonequilibrium steady states for the prototypical nonequilibrium configuration of a finite sample coupled to two thermal reservoirs at different temperatures. Under the assumption of spatial translation invariance, we relate the 2-point operator of such a right mover/left mover state to the asymptotic velocity of the system and prove that the system is thermodynamically nontrivial in the sense that its entropy production rate is strictly positive. Our study of these not necessarily gauge-invariant systems covers and substantially generalizes well-known quasifree fermionic chains and opens the way for a more systematic analysis of the heat flux in such systems.
