We consider the interaction-round-a-face version of the six-vertex model for arbitrary anisotropy parameter, which allow us to derive an integrable one-dimensional quantum Hamiltonian with three-spin interactions. We apply the quantum transfer matrix approach for the face model version of the six-vertex model. The integrable quantum Hamiltonian shares some thermodynamical properties with the Heisenberg XXZ chain, but has different ordering and critical exponents. Two gapped phases are the dimerized antiferromagnetic order and the usual antiferromagnetic (Néel) order for positive nearest neighbor Ising coupling. In between these, there is an extended critical region, which is a quantum spin-liquid with broken parity symmetry inducing an oscillatory behavior at the long distance <σ1zσℓ+1z> correlation. At finite temperatures, the numerical solution of the non-linear integral equations allows for the determination of the correlation length as well as for the momentum of the oscillation.
We consider the interaction-round-a-face version of the isotropic six-vertex model. The associated spin chain is made of two coupled Heisenberg spin chains with different boundary twists. The phase diagram of the model and the long distance correlations were studied in Tavares and Ribeiro (2023) [43] . Here, we compute the short-distance correlation functions of the model in the ground state for finite system sizes via non-linear integral equations and in the thermodynamic limit. This was possible since the model satisfies the face version of the discrete quantum Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov (qKZ) equation. A suitable ansatz for the density matrix is proposed in the form of a direct sum of two Heisenberg density matrices, which allows us to obtain the discrete functional equation for the two-site function ω ( λ 1 , λ 2 ) . Thanks to the known results on the factorization of correlation functions of the Heisenberg chain, we are able to compute the density matrix of the IRF model for up to four sites and its associated spin chain for up to three sites.
We consider the interaction-round-a-face version of the nineteen-vertex model and derive a new quantum spin-
1 chain. In the isotropic limit, the associated spin chain can be seen as three coupled Babujian-Taktahjan spin chains with different boundary twists. We compute the ground state short-distance correlation functions of the isotropic model in the thermodynamic limit by exploiting the shared integrable structure between the models.
We examine the magnetic correlations in quantum spin models that were derived recently as effective low-energy theories for electronic correlation effects on the edge states of graphene nanoribbons. For this purpose, we employ quantum Monte Carlo simulations to access the large-distance properties, accounting for quantum fluctuations beyond mean-field-theory approaches to edge magnetism. For certain chiral nanoribbons, antiferromagnetic interedge couplings were previously found to induce a gapped quantum disordered ground state of the effective spin model. We find that the extended nature of the intraedge couplings in the effective spin model for zigzag nanoribbons leads to a quantum phase transition at a large, finite value of the interedge coupling. This quantum critical point separates the quantum disordered region from a gapless phase of stable edge magnetism at weak intraedge coupling, which includes the ground states of spin-ladder models for wide zigzag nanoribbons. To study the quantum critical behavior, the effective spin model can be related to a model of two antiferromagnetically coupled Haldane-Shastry spin-half chains with long-ranged ferromagnetic intrachain couplings. The results for the critical exponents are compared also to several recent renormalization-group calculations for related long-ranged interacting quantum systems.
Recent studies have revealed that the randomness-induced quantum spin liquid (QSL)-like state is stabilized in certain frustrated quantum magnets in two and three dimensions. In order to clarify the nature of this gapless QSL-like state, we investigate both zero- and finite-temperature properties of the random-bond one-dimensional (1D)
s=12 Heisenberg model with the competing nearest-neighbor and next-nearest-neighbor antiferromagnetic interactions,
J1 and
J2, by means of the exact diagonalization, density-matrix renormalization-group and Hams--de Raedt methods. We find that, on increasing the frustration
J2, the gapless nonmagnetic state stabilized in the unfrustrated model with
J2=0, the {\it unfrustrated\} random-singlet (RS) state, exhibits a phase transition into different gapless nonmagnetic state, the {\it frustrated\} RS state. This frustrated RS state in 1D has properties quite similar to the randomness-induced QSL-like state recently identified in 2D and 3D frustrated magnets exhibiting the
T-linear low-temperature (
T) specific heat, while the unfrustrated RS state is more or less specific to the unfrustrated 1D system exhibiting the
∼1(logT)3 low-
T specific heat. Universal features and the robustness against perturbations of the frustrated RS state are emphasized.
The antiferromagnetic Heisenberg spin systems on the three-leg ladder are investigated. Periodic boundary condition is imposed in the rung direction. The system has an excitation gap for all antiferromagnetic inter-chain coupling (
J⊥>0). The estimated gap for the strong coupling limit (
J⊥/J1→∞) is 0.28
J1. Although the interaction is homogeneous and only nearest-neighbor, the ground states of the system are dimerized and break the translational symmetry in the thermodynamic limit. Introducing the next-nearest neighbor coupling (
J2), we can see that the system is solved exactly. The ground state wave function is completely dimer-ordered. Using density matrix renomalization group algorithm, we show numerically that the original model (
J2=0) has the same nature with the exactly solvable model. The ground state properties of the ladder with a higher odd number of legs are also discussed.
The field-free quantum-spin-1/2 XXZ model is studied in three-dimensions using renormalization group theory. We obtain global phase diagrams and critical properties. We identify zero-temperature quantum phase transitions at isotropic points, as well as long-range order below critical temperatures at all anisotropies. We show that the excitation spectrum is gapless in XY-like, and gapped in Ising-like anisotropy regimes. Besides, internal energy density, specific heat, nearest-neighbor entanglement measures and spin-spin correlations are obtained globally at all temperatures. Our numerical results cover the global range of anisotropy parameter, for both ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic cases.
