Abstract

Abstract We characterize quantum correlations encoded in a three-flavor oscillating neutrino system by using both plane-wave and wave-packet approach. By means of the Complete Complementarity Relations (CCR) we study the trade-off of predictability, local coherence and non-local correlations in terms of the relevant parameters, chosen from recent neutrino experiments. Although the CCR describe very well the contributions associated to bipartite correlations, an attempt of promoting these relations to include the genuine tri-partite contributions in the pure-state case leads to a not completely meaningful result. However, we provide an analysis of the genuine tripartite contributions both for the pure instance and for the mixed case, independently of CCR.

Complete complementarity relations for quantum correlations in neutrino oscillations with CP violation

Massimo Blasone A, Silvio De Siena, Cristina Matrella

We characterize quantum correlations encoded in a three-flavor oscillating neutrino system by taking into account CP violation. By means of the complete complementarity relations (CCR), we study the trade-off of predictability, local coherence and nonlocal correlations by using relevant parameters given by neutrino oscillation experiments. Although the CCR describe very well the contributions associated to bipartite correlations, we explore the possible presence of genuine tripartite correlations, by exploiting polygamy relations. We also provide some observations about the nonlocal advantage of quantum coherence, a mazy quantum correlation characterizing the most valuable, nonlocal, portion of quantum coherence in a multi-partite system.

Complete complementarity relations for quantum correlations in neutrino oscillations

Victor A. S. V. Bittencourt, Massimo Blasone A, Silvio De Siena +1 more

Abstract We analyze quantum correlations and quantum coherence in neutrino oscillations. To this end, we exploit complete complementarity relations (CCR) that fully characterize the interplay between different correlations encoded in a quantum system both for pure and mixed states. We consider the CCR for neutrino oscillations both in the case of plane-waves (pure state) and of wave packets (mixed state). In this last case we find a complex structure of correlations depending on the mixing angle, and we show the connection with the non local advantage of quantum coherence, a relevant quantifier of coherence.

Complete complementarity relations for three-flavor neutrino oscillations

Victor A. S. V. Bittencourt, Massimo Blasone A, Silvio De Siena +1 more

Abstract We study quantum correlations encoded in a three-flavor neutrino system by using complete complementarity relations (CCR). Due to the presence of local coherence in two-flavor subsystems, the CCR has an additional contribution not present in the two flavor mixing case. We investigate such coherence for the three possible bipartite subsystems of the global state both for an electron and a muon neutrino system.

Influence of quantum decoherence on the survival of quantumness in neutrino oscillations

Jilali Loulijat, Abdallah Slaoui, Mohamed Gouighri +1 more

This study examines the dynamics of quantumness in two-flavor neutrino oscillations subjected to a dephasing channel, using representative oscillation parameters associated with the KamLAND, MINOS, and Daya Bay experiments. We analyze three complementary quantum-correlation measures -- entanglement of formation (EOF), quantum discord (QD), and local quantum uncertainty (LQU) -- within an effective two-qubit description. In the unitary case, all three measures display oscillatory behavior controlled by flavor mixing, and their amplitudes are strongly shaped by the relevant mixing angle. MINOS exhibits the largest correlations because $θ_{23}$ is close to maximal, KamLAND shows intermediate values associated with the solar sector, and Daya Bay yields smaller correlations due to the relatively small value of $θ_{13}$. Under dephasing, the off-diagonal coherence terms are suppressed and the three quantifiers decrease accordingly, while QD remains non-zero in regimes where entanglement is weak. For pure states, LQU satisfies $\mathcal{U}=\mathcal{C}^2$ and therefore tracks entanglement monotonically, whereas QD provides a broader witness of non-classical correlations. These results provide a compact quantum-information description of two-flavor neutrino oscillations in both coherent and dephased regimes. We also quantify the sensitivity of these observables to oscillation and decoherence parameters, showing that their main added value relative to flavor probabilities is their direct response to off-diagonal coherence loss.

Flavor entanglement in neutrino oscillations in the wave packet description

Massimo Blasone A, Fabio Dell’Anno, Silvio De Siena +1 more

The wave packet approach to neutrino oscillations provides an enlightening description of quantum decoherence induced, during propagation, by localization effects. Within this approach, we show that a deeper insight into the dynamical aspects of particle mixing can be obtained if one investigates the behavior of quantum correlations associated to flavor oscillations. By identifying the neutrino three-flavor modes with (suitably defined) three-qubit modes, the exploitation of tools of quantum information theory for mixed states allows a detailed analysis of the dynamical behavior of flavor entanglement during free propagation. This provides further elements leading to a more complete understanding of the phenomenon of neutrino oscillations, and a basis for possible applicative implementations. The analysis is carried out by studying the distribution of the flavor entanglement; to this aim, we perform combined investigations of the behaviors of the two-flavor concurrence and of the logarithmic negativities associated with specific bipartitions of the three flavors.

We analyze complete complementarity relations, which characterize the interplay between different correlations encoded in a quantum system, for oscillating neutrinos. We also provide a short review of the main results obtained so far about quantum correlations in neutrino oscillations.
