The quantum harmonic oscillator with icosahedral symmetry and some explicit wavefunctions

Abstract

Abstract The Dunkl Laplacian is used to define the Hamiltonian of a modified quantum harmonic oscillator, associated with any finite reflection group. The potential is a sum of the inverse squares of the linear functions whose zero sets are the mirrors of the group’s reflections. The symmetric group version of this is known as the Calogero-Moser model of N identical particles on a line. This paper focuses on the group of symmetries of the regular icosahedron, associated to the root system of type H3. Special wavefunctions are defined by a generating function arising from the vertices of the icosahedron and have the key property of allowing easy calculation of the effect of the Dunkl Laplacian. The ground state is the product of a Gaussian function with powers of linear functions coming from the root system. Two types of wavefunctions are considered, inhomogeneous polynomials with specified top-degree part, and homogeneous harmonic polynomials. The squared norms for both types are explicitly calculated. Symmetrization is applied to produce the invariant polynomials of both types, as well as their squared norms. The action of the angular momentum square on the harmonic homogeneous polynomials is determined. There is also a sixth-order operator commuting with the Hamiltonian and the group action.

Non-Hermitian inverted harmonic oscillator-type Hamiltonians generated from supersymmetry with reflections

R. D. Mota, D. Ojeda-Guillén, M. Salazar–Ramírez +1 more

By modifying and generalizing known supersymmetric models, we are able to find four different sets of one-dimensional Hamiltonians for the inverted harmonic oscillator. The first set of Hamiltonians is derived by extending the supersymmetric quantum mechanics with reflections to non-Hermitian supercharges. The second set is obtained by generalizing the supersymmetric quantum mechanics valid for non-Hermitian supercharges with the Dunkl derivative instead of [Formula: see text]. Also, by changing the derivative [Formula: see text] by the Dunkl derivative in the creation and annihilation-type operators of the standard inverted harmonic oscillator [Formula: see text], we generate the third set of Hamiltonians. The fourth set of Hamiltonians emerges by allowing a parameter of the supersymmetric two-body Calogero-type model to take imaginary values. The eigensolutions of definite parity for each set of Hamiltonians are given.

Dynamical symmetries of the Calogero-Coulomb model

Tigran Hakobyan

We construct the dynamical symmetry of the quantum Calogero model with particle exchange in a confining Coulomb field. This symmetry is governed by the algebra $so(N+1,2)$, deformed by exchange (Dunkl) operators, with its invariant sector generated by the Dunkl angular momentum tensor and the modified Laplace-Runge-Lenz vector. The equidistant analogue of the Hamiltonian, with a linear spectrum, is expressed in terms of the conformal subalgebra $so(1,2)$. In addition, the wave functions of the Calogero-Coulomb Hamiltonian are classified into infinite-dimensional lowest-weight $so(1,2)$ multiplets.

Supersymmetric Wigner–Dunkl quantum mechanics

Shi‐Hai Dong, Won Sang Chung, Georg Junker +1 more

Wigner–Dunkl quantum mechanics can be viewed as deformed quantum mechanics, where the commutator between canonical momentum and position operators contains in addition a reflection operator. In the present work we carry over the general concepts of supersymmetric (SUSY) quantum mechanics to the Wigner–Dunkl quantum formulation. We investigate the SUSY ground states, the SUSY transformations and introduce a generalized shape invariance allowing for explicit solutions. In this way, exact solutions for a certain class of SUSY potentials can be provided. As example the harmonic oscillator is considered. We also take a look into a singular oscillator model, which does not belong to the shape-invariance class. Nevertheless, exact solutions can be provided, showing the peculiarities of that model in the SUSY Wigner–Dunkl quantum mechanics. A modification of that singular model is presented which restores shape invariance

Algebraic description of SN-invariant oscillator states

Roberto Floreanini B, Luc Lapointe, Luc Vinet

A group-theoretical description of N identical harmonic oscillators on a line is presented. It provides a scheme for labeling the energy eigenstates that are invariant under the permutation group SN and for obtaining the symmetric operators that transform these degenerate eigenfunctions among themselves. The symmetry algebra that these generators form is in general polynomial. The 2- and 3-particle cases are considered in detail. For the simple 2-body problem the invariance algebra is found to be the cubic SU(2) algebra: [J0,J±]=±J±, [J+,J−]=2J0−αJ03. In the 3-body case, the permutational invariant states are characterized with the help of the subgroup chain U(3)⊃U(2)⊃O(2). The labeling and step operators are obtained from determining an integrity basis for the S3 scalar in U(U(3)). Generating functions techniques are used to that end; an eight-dimensional basis is found whose elements span the symmetry algebra of the three identical oscillator problem. These constants of motion are seen to generate a nonlinear algebra whose representation on the symmetric states is provided.

The Dunkl oscillator in the momentum representation and coherent states

Won Sang Chung, M. de Montigny, HASSAN HASSANABADI

Abstract We discuss quantum mechanical systems with Dunkl derivatives by constructing the Dunkl-Heisenberg relation in the momentum representation by means of the reflection operator for momentum and we obtain the corresponding position quantum eigenfunction. We examine the one-dimensional Dunkl oscillator in the momentum space in terms of ν -deformed Hermite polynomials. We obtain the energy levels as well as the ground-state and excited wave functions in terms of the ν -deformed Hermite polynomials. We also describe some properties of the ν -deformed Hermite polynomials. We apply the method to the construction of coherent states.

Harmonic oscillator states with integer and non-integer orbital angular momentum

Martin Land

We study the quantum mechanical harmonic oscillator in two and three dimensions, with particular attention to the solutions as basis states for representing their respective symmetry groups — O(2), O(1,1), O(3), and O(2,1). The goal of this study is to establish a correspondence between Hilbert space descriptions found by solving the Schrodinger equation in polar coordinates, and Fock space descriptions constructed by expressing the symmetry operators in terms of creation/annihilation operators. We obtain wavefunctions characterized by a principal quantum number, the group Casimir eigenvalue, and one group generator whose eigenvalue is m + s , for integer m and real constant parameter s . For the three groups that contain O(2), the solutions split into two inequivalent representations, one associated with s = 0, from which we recover the familiar description of the oscillator as a product of one-dimensional solutions, and the other with s > 0 (in three dimensions, solutions are found for s = 0 and s = 1/2) whose solutions are non-separable in Cartesian coordinates, and are hence overlooked by the standard Fock space approach. The O(1,1) solutions are singlet states, restricted to zero eigenvalue of the symmetry operator, which represents the boost, not angular momentum. For O(2), a single set of creation and annihilation operators forms a ladder representation for the allowed oscillator states for any s, and the degeneracy of energy states is always finite. However, in three dimensions, the integer and half-integer eigenstates are qualitatively different: the former can be expressed as finite dimensional irreducible tensors under O(3) or O(2,1) while the latter exhibit infinite degeneracy. Creation operators that produce the allowed integer states by acting on the non-degenerate ground state are constructed as irreducible tensor products of the fundamental vector representation. However, the half-integer eigenstates are infinite-dimensional, as expected for the non-compact O(2,1), and no Fock space description is found for this case. For all s ≠ 0 solutions, the SU(N) symmetry of the harmonic oscillator Hamiltonian recently discovered by Bars is spontaneously broken by the ground state. The connection of this symmetry breaking to the non-separability into one-dimensional Cartesian solutions is demonstrated. We conclude with a discussion of the O(2,1) solutions, and the problem of timelike ghost excitations.
