Abstract

We conjecture the existence of hidden Onsager algebra symmetries in two interacting quantum integrable lattice models, i.e. spin-1/2 XXZ model and spin-1 Zamolodchikov-Fateev model at arbitrary root of unity values of the anisotropy. The conjectures relate the Onsager generators to the conserved charges obtained from semi-cyclic transfer matrices. The conjectures are motivated by two examples which are spin-1/2 XX model and spin-1 U(1)-invariant clock model. A novel construction of the semi-cyclic transfer matrices of spin-1 Zamolodchikov-Fateev model at arbitrary root of unity values of the anisotropy is carried out via the transfer matrix fusion procedure.

Lattice non-invertible symmetry from non-commuting transfer matrices

Eric Vernier, Yuan Miao, Masahito Yamazaki

Conventional quantum integrability is encoded in a commuting algebra of transfer matrices. By contrast, several models possess additional non-commuting conserved charges with important physical consequences, yet the nature of the corresponding symmetry has remained elusive. Focusing on the XXZ spin chain at roots of unity, we show that the non-Abelian analogue of the commuting transfer-matrix algebra is governed by quadratic relations following from a new class of unbalanced Yang--Baxter/RLL relations. This quadratic algebra is shown to encode precisely the Onsager algebra, for which we construct explicit matrix-product representations of both its generators and its duality defect line. The latter obeys $\mathbb{Z}_N$ Tambara--Yamagami fusion rules, thereby providing a lattice realization of the topological defect lines of the compactified boson conformal field theory. Our results identify non-Abelian transfer-matrix algebras as a microscopic origin for Onsager symmetry and dualities in lattice models.

Loop symmetry of integrable vertex models at roots of unity

Korff, C, Barry M. McCoy

It has been recently discovered in the context of the six vertex or XXZ model in the fundamental representation that new symmetries arise when the anisotropy parameter $(q+q^{-1})/2$ is evaluated at roots of unity $q^{N}=1$. These new symmetries have been linked to an $U(A^{(1)}_1)$ invariance of the transfer matrix and the corresponding spin-chain Hamiltonian. In this paper these results are generalized for odd primitive roots of unity to all vertex models associated with trigonometric solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation by invoking representation independent methods which only take the algebraic structure of the underlying quantum groups $U_q(\\hat g)$ into account. Here $\\hat g$ is an arbitrary Kac-Moody algebra. Employing the notion of the boost operator it is then found that the Hamiltonian and the transfer matrix of the integrable model are invariant under the action of $U(\\hat{g})$. For the simplest case $\\hat g=A_1^{(1)}$ the discussion is also extended to even primitive roots of unity.

Onsager symmetries in U ( 1 ) -invariant clock models

Eric Vernier, Edward O’Brien, Paul Fendley

Abstract We show how the Onsager algebra, used in the original solution of the two-dimensional Ising model, arises as an infinite-dimensional symmetry of certain self-dual models that also have a symmetry. We describe in detail the example of nearest-neighbour n -state clock chains whose symmetry is enhanced to . As a consequence of the Onsager-algebra symmetry, the spectrum of these models possesses degeneracies with multiplicities 2 N for positive integer N . We construct the elements of the algebra explicitly from transfer matrices built from non-fundamental representations of the quantum-group algebra . We analyse the spectra further by using both the coordinate Bethe ansatz and a functional approach, and show that the degeneracies result from special exact n -string solutions of the Bethe equations. We also find a family of commuting chiral Hamiltonians that break the degeneracies and allow an integrable interpolation between ferro- and antiferromagnets.

The Onsager algebra symmetry of τ(j)-matrices in the superintegrable chiral Potts model

Shi-Shyr Roan

We demonstrate that the τ ( j ) -matrices in the superintegrable chiral Potts model possess the Onsager algebra symmetry for their degenerate eigenvalues. The Fabricius–McCoy comparison of functional relations of the eight-vertex model for roots of unity and the superintegrable chiral Potts model has been carefully analysed by identifying equivalent terms in the corresponding equations, by which we extract the conjectured relation of Q -operators and all fusion matrices in the eight-vertex model corresponding to the -relation in the chiral Potts model.

Extension of a Borel subalgebra symmetry into the sl(2) loop algebra symmetry for the twisted XXZ spin chain at roots of unity and the Onsager algebra

Tetsuo Deguchi

We discuss a conjecture that the twisted transfer matrix of the six-vertex model at roots of unity with some discrete twist angles should have the sl(2) loop algebra symmetry. As an evidence of this conjecture, we show the following mathematical result on a subalgebra of the sl(2) loop algebra, which we call a Borel subalgebra: any given finite-dimensional highest weight representation of the Borel subalgebra is extended into that of the sl(2) loop algebra, if the parameters associated with it are nonzero. Thus, if operators commuting or anti-commuting with the twisted transfer matrix of the six-vertex model at roots of unity generate the Borel subalgebra, then they also generate the sl(2) loop algebra. The result should be useful for studying the connection of the sl(2) loop algebra symmetry to the Onsager algebra symmetry of the superintegrable chiral Potts model.

INTEGRABILITY OF OPEN SPIN CHAINS WITH QUANTUM ALGEBRA SYMMETRY

Luca Mezincescu, Rafael I. Nepomechie

We construct an open quantum spin chain from the “twisted” [Formula: see text]R matrix in the fundamental representation which has the quantum algebra symmetry Uq[ su (2)]. This anisotropic spin-1 chain is different from the Uq[ su (2)]-invariant chain constructed from the “untwisted” [Formula: see text] spin-1 R matrix (namely, the spin-1 XXZ chain of Fateev-Zamolodchikov with boundary terms) but, nevertheless, is also completely integrable. We discuss the general case of an R matrix of the type g(k), where k∈{1, 2, 3}, and g is any simple Lie algebra.
