Coherent States for the Isotropic and Anisotropic 2D Harmonic Oscillators

Abstract

In this paper we introduce a new method for constructing coherent states for 2D harmonic oscillators. In particular, we focus on both the isotropic and commensurate anisotropic instances of the 2D harmonic oscillator. We define a new set of ladder operators for the 2D system as a linear combination of the x and y ladder operators and construct the S U ( 2 ) coherent states, where these are then used as the basis of expansion for Schrödinger-type coherent states of the 2D oscillators. We discuss the uncertainty relations for the new states and study the behaviour of their probability density functions in configuration space.

Non-linear ladder operators and coherent states for the 2:1 oscillator

James Moran, Véronique Hussin, Ian Marquette

Abstract The 2:1 two-dimensional anisotropic quantum harmonic oscillator is considered and new sets of states are defined by means of normal-ordering non-linear operators through the use of non-commutative binomial theorems as well as solving recurrence relations. The states generated are good candidates for the natural generalisation of the s u ( 2 ) coherent states of the two-dimensional isotropic oscillator. The two-dimensional non-linear generalised ladder operators lead to several chains of states which are connected in a non trivial way. The uncertainty relations of the defining chain of states are calculated and it is found that they admit a resolution of the identity and the spatial distribution of the wavefunction produces Lissajous figures in correspondence with the classical 2:1 oscillator.

Generalized $ \left\{ h (1) \oplus h(1) \right\} \uplus u(2) $ commensurate anisotropic Hamiltoninan and ladder operators; energy spectrum, eigenstates and associated coherent and squeezed states

Nibaldo-Edmundo Alvarez-Moraga

In this article a study was made of the conditions under which a Hamiltonian which is an element of the complex $ \left\{ h (1) \oplus h(1) \right\} \uplus u(2) $ Lie algebra admits ladder operators which are also elements of this algebra. The algebra eigenstates of the lowering operator constructed in this way are computed and from them both the energy spectrum and the energy eigenstates of this Hamiltonian are generated in the usual way with the help of the corresponding raising operator. Thus, several families of generalized Hamiltonian systems are found, which, under a suitable similarity transformation, reduce to a basic set of systems, among which we find the 1:1, 2:1, 1:2, $su(2)$ and some other non-commensurate and commensurate anisotropic 2D quantum oscillator systems. Explicit expressions for the normalized eigenstates of the Hamiltonian and its associated lowering operator are given, which show the classical structure of two-mode separable and non-separable generalized coherent and squeezed states. Finally, based on all the above results, a proposal for new ladder operators for the $p:q$ coprime commensurate anisotropic quantum oscillator is made, which leads us to a class of Chen $SU(2)$ coherent states.

A new set of coherent states for the isotropic harmonic oscillator: Coherent angular momentum states

Anthony J. Bracken, Howard I. Leemon

The Hamiltonian for the oscillator has earlier been written in the form where ν† and ν are raising and lowering operators for ν†ν, which has eigenvalues k (the ’’radial’’ quantum number), and λ† and λ are raising and lowering 3-vector operators for λ†⋅λ, which has eigenvalues l (the total angular momentum quantum number). A new set of coherent states for the oscillator is now defined by diagonalizing ν and λ. These states bear a similar relation to the commuting operators H, L2, and L3 (where L is the angular momentum of the system) as the usual coherent states do to the commuting number operators N1, N2, and N3. It is proposed to call them coherent angular momentum states. They are shown to be minimum-uncertainty states for the variables ν, ν† , λ, and λ†, and to provide a new quasiclassical description of the oscillator. This description coincides with that provided by the usual coherent states only in the special case that the corresponding classical motion is circular, rather than elliptical; and, in general, the uncertainty in the angular momentum of the system is smaller in the new description. The probabilities of obtaining particular values for k and l in one of the new states follow independent Poisson distributions. The new states are overcomplete, and lead to a new representation of the Hilbert space for the oscillator, in terms of analytic functions on C×K3, where K3 is the three-dimensional complex cone. This space is related to one introduced recently by Bargmann and Todorov, and carries a very simple realization of all the representations of the rotation group.

Coherent and squeezed states for the 3D harmonic oscillator

Amel Mazouz, M. Bentaïba, Ali Mahieddine

A three-dimensional harmonic oscillator is studied in the context of generalized coherent states. We construct its squeezed states as eigenstates of linear contribution of ladder operators which are associated to the generalized Heisenberg algebra. We study the probability density to show the compression effect on the squeezed states. Our analysis reveals that squeezed states give us some freedom on the precise knowledge of position of the particle while maintaining the Heisenberg uncertainty relation minimum, squeezed states remains squeezed states over time.

Linearised coherent states for non-rational SUSY extensions of the harmonic oscillator

Alonso Contreras-Astorga, David J. Fernández C., César Muro-Cabral

In this work, we derive two equivalent non-rational extensions of the quantum harmonic oscillator using two different supersymmetric transformations. For these extensions, we built ladder operators as the product of the intertwining operators related with these equivalent supersymmetric transformations, which results in two-step ladder operators. We linearised these operators to obtain operators of the same nature that follow a linear commutation relation. After the linearisation, we derive coherent states as eigenstates of the annigilation operator and analyse some relevant mathematical and physical properties, such as the completeness relation, mean-energy values, temporal stability, time evolution of the probability densities, and Wigner distributions. From these properties, we conclude that these coherent states present both classical and quantum behaviour.

Coherent states of a free particle from the coherent states of the harmonic oscillator

Jasel Berra–Montiel

We construct the coherent states of a free particle by implementing a coordinate transformation in the extended configuration space, which establishes a correspondence between the solutions of the Schrödinger equation for a harmonic oscillator and those for a free particle. Using this framework, we derive analytical expressions for the coherent states of a free particle, avoiding the complexities of non-normalizable fiducial states, integrals of motion, or group-theoretic approaches. Our method provides a systematic way to characterize these states at any instant while ensuring that they satisfy the Robertson-Schrödinger uncertainty relation.
