Non-linear ladder operators and coherent states for the 2:1 oscillator

Abstract

Abstract The 2:1 two-dimensional anisotropic quantum harmonic oscillator is considered and new sets of states are defined by means of normal-ordering non-linear operators through the use of non-commutative binomial theorems as well as solving recurrence relations. The states generated are good candidates for the natural generalisation of the s u ( 2 ) coherent states of the two-dimensional isotropic oscillator. The two-dimensional non-linear generalised ladder operators lead to several chains of states which are connected in a non trivial way. The uncertainty relations of the defining chain of states are calculated and it is found that they admit a resolution of the identity and the spatial distribution of the wavefunction produces Lissajous figures in correspondence with the classical 2:1 oscillator.

Coherent States for the Isotropic and Anisotropic 2D Harmonic Oscillators

James Moran, Véronique Hussin

In this paper we introduce a new method for constructing coherent states for 2D harmonic oscillators. In particular, we focus on both the isotropic and commensurate anisotropic instances of the 2D harmonic oscillator. We define a new set of ladder operators for the 2D system as a linear combination of the x and y ladder operators and construct the S U ( 2 ) coherent states, where these are then used as the basis of expansion for Schrödinger-type coherent states of the 2D oscillators. We discuss the uncertainty relations for the new states and study the behaviour of their probability density functions in configuration space.

Linearised coherent states for non-rational SUSY extensions of the harmonic oscillator

Alonso Contreras-Astorga, David J. Fernández C., César Muro-Cabral

In this work, we derive two equivalent non-rational extensions of the quantum harmonic oscillator using two different supersymmetric transformations. For these extensions, we built ladder operators as the product of the intertwining operators related with these equivalent supersymmetric transformations, which results in two-step ladder operators. We linearised these operators to obtain operators of the same nature that follow a linear commutation relation. After the linearisation, we derive coherent states as eigenstates of the annigilation operator and analyse some relevant mathematical and physical properties, such as the completeness relation, mean-energy values, temporal stability, time evolution of the probability densities, and Wigner distributions. From these properties, we conclude that these coherent states present both classical and quantum behaviour.

Generalized $ \left\{ h (1) \oplus h(1) \right\} \uplus u(2) $ commensurate anisotropic Hamiltoninan and ladder operators; energy spectrum, eigenstates and associated coherent and squeezed states

Nibaldo-Edmundo Alvarez-Moraga

In this article a study was made of the conditions under which a Hamiltonian which is an element of the complex $ \left\{ h (1) \oplus h(1) \right\} \uplus u(2) $ Lie algebra admits ladder operators which are also elements of this algebra. The algebra eigenstates of the lowering operator constructed in this way are computed and from them both the energy spectrum and the energy eigenstates of this Hamiltonian are generated in the usual way with the help of the corresponding raising operator. Thus, several families of generalized Hamiltonian systems are found, which, under a suitable similarity transformation, reduce to a basic set of systems, among which we find the 1:1, 2:1, 1:2, $su(2)$ and some other non-commensurate and commensurate anisotropic 2D quantum oscillator systems. Explicit expressions for the normalized eigenstates of the Hamiltonian and its associated lowering operator are given, which show the classical structure of two-mode separable and non-separable generalized coherent and squeezed states. Finally, based on all the above results, a proposal for new ladder operators for the $p:q$ coprime commensurate anisotropic quantum oscillator is made, which leads us to a class of Chen $SU(2)$ coherent states.

Commensurate anisotropic oscillator,SU(2) coherent states and the classical limit

M Sanjay Kumar, B Dutta-Roy

We demonstrate a formally exact quantum–classical correspondence between the stationary coherent states associated with the commensurate anisotropic two-dimensional harmonic oscillator and the classical Lissajous orbits. Our derivation draws upon the earlier work of Louck et al (1973 J. Math. Phys. 14 692) wherein they have provided a non-bijective canonical transformation that maps, within a degenerate eigenspace, the commensurate anisotropic oscillator on to the isotropic oscillator. This mapping leads, in a natural manner, to a Schwinger realization of SU (2) in terms of the canonically transformed creation and annihilation operators. Through the corresponding coherent states built over a degenerate eigenspace, we directly effect the classical limit via the expectation values of the underlying generators. Our work completely accounts for the fact that the SU (2) coherent state in general corresponds to an ensemble of Lissajous orbits.

Coherent states for ladder operators of general order related to exceptional orthogonal polynomials

Scott E. Hoffmann, Véronique Hussin, Ian Marquette +1 more

Abstract We construct the coherent states of general order, m , for the ladder operators and , which act on rational deformations of the harmonic oscillator. The position wavefunctions of the eigenvectors involve type III Hermite exceptional orthogonal polynomials. We plot energy expectations, time-dependent position probability densities for the coherent states and for the even and odd cat states, Wigner functions, and Heisenberg uncertainty relations. We find generally non-classical behaviour, with one exception: there is a regime of large magnitude of the coherent state parameter, z , where the otherwise indistinct position probability density separates into m + 1 distinct wavepackets oscillating and colliding in the potential, forming interference fringes when they collide. The Mandel Q parameter is calculated to find sub-Poissonian statistics, another indicator of non-classical behaviour. We plot the position standard deviation and find squeezing in many of the cases. We calculate the two ‘photon’ number probability density for the output state when the m = 4, coherent states (where μ labels the lowest weight in the superposition) are placed on one arm of a beamsplitter. We find that it does not factorize, again indicating non-classical behaviour. Calculation of the linear entropy for this beamsplitter output state shows significant entanglement, another non-classical feature. We also construct linearized versions, , of the annihilation operators and their coherent states and calculate the same properties that we investigate for the coherent states. For these we find similar behaviour to the coherent states, at much smaller magnitudes of z , but comparable average energies.

Lissajous coherent states via projection

Errico J. Russo, James Schneeloch, Edwin E. Hach +3 more

We construct stationary coherent states concentrated on Lissajous figures of the isotropic and anisotropic harmonic oscillators, the latter having coprime frequencies, by projecting products of ordinary coherent states (one coherent state for each degree of freedom) onto sets of degenerate states. By performing these projections, we are deriving our states from sets of coherent states that are known to follow the classical motion of a two-dimensional harmonic oscillator for arbitrary frequencies. We clarify the nature of any singularities present in the phase of the wavefunction for each of the states we derive, and we establish a rigorous connection between the laminar flow of probability current and the emergence of quantum interference. Through this analysis, we are able to provide a clear and quantifiable definition for a vortex state of the two-dimensional harmonic oscillator (2DHO). In an appendix, we show that our stationary states are true coherent states as they can be used to resolve the relevant identity operators (the above mentioned projection operators) on their respective degenerate subspaces. In the special case of the isotropic oscillator, the states obtained are the SU(2) coherent states, and we derive from our formalism the familiar resolution of unity for these states.
