Abstract

The single-photon emission of a classically pumped three-level Λ-type emitter in a high- Q cavity is studied. In particular, generation of single-photon time-bin double-peak wave packets is shown.

Creating Single Time-Bin-Entangled Photon Pairs

Christoph Simon, J.-Ph. Poizat

When a single emitter is excited by two phase-coherent pulses with a time delay, each of the pulses can lead to the emission of a photon pair, thus creating a "time-bin-entangled" state. Double pair emission can be avoided by initially preparing the emitter in a metastable state. We show how photons from separate emissions can be made indistinguishable, permitting their use for multiphoton interference. Possible realizations are discussed. The method might also allow the direct creation of n-photon entangled states (n > 2).

Single pairs of time-bin-entangled photons

Marijn A. M. Versteegh, Michael E. Reimer, Aafke A. van den Berg +5 more

Time-bin-entangled photons are ideal for long-distance quantum communication via optical fibers. Here we present a source where, even at high creation rates, each excitation pulse generates, at most, one time-bin-entangled pair. This is important for the accuracy and security of quantum communication. Our site-controlled quantum dot generates single polarization-entangled photon pairs, which are then converted, without loss of entanglement strength, into single time-bin-entangled photon pairs.

Entanglement generation in semiconductor nanostructures

Laia Ginés, Junior R. Gonzales-Ureta, Magdalena Moczała-Dusanowska +4 more

Single self-assembled quantum dots are established emitters of single photons and entangled photon pairs. The entanglement of photons generated by quantum dots has been shown in polarization [1] , in time bin [2] , and also as hyperentanglement [3] . However, the achievable degree of entanglement and readiness of the source for use in quantum communication protocols, depend on several additional functionalities such as high collection efficiency, coherence of the emitted photon pairs, and fabrication scalability.
