Pseudo-Hermitian position and momentum operators, Hermitian Hamiltonian, and deformed oscillators

Abstract

The recently introduced by us, two- and three-parameter (p, q)- and (p, q, [Formula: see text])-deformed extensions of the Heisenberg algebra were explored under the condition of their direct link with the respective (nonstandard) deformed quantum oscillator algebras. In this paper, we explore certain Hermitian Hamiltonians build in terms of non-Hermitian position and momentum operators obeying definite [Formula: see text](N)-pseudo-hermiticity properties. A generalized nonlinear (with the coefficients depending on the particle number operator N) one-mode Bogoliubov transformation is developed as main tool for the corresponding study. Its application enables to obtain the spectrum of “almost free” (but essentially nonlinear) Hamiltonian.

New version of pseudo-hermiticity in the two-sided deformation of Heisenberg algebra

Alexandre M. Gavrilik, І. І. Качурик

The recently introduced two- and three-parameter [Formula: see text]- and [Formula: see text]-deformed extensions of the Heisenberg algebra (HA) were explored under the condition of their connectedness with the respective nonstandard (other than known ones) deformed quantum oscillator algebras. In this paper, we show that such connection dictates certain new [Formula: see text]-pseudo-Hermitian conjugation rule between the creation and annihilation operators with [Formula: see text] depending on the particle number operator [Formula: see text]. In turn, that leads to the related [Formula: see text]-pseudo-hermiticity of the position–momentum operators, though the involved Hamiltonian is Hermitian. Different possible cases are studied, and some interesting features implied by the use of such [Formula: see text]-based conjugation rule are emphasized.

Deformed Heisenberg algebra and its Hilbert space representations

Latévi M. Lawson, Ibrahim Nonkané, Kinvi Kangni

A deformation of Heisenberg algebra induces among other consequences a loss of Hermiticity of some operators that generate this algebra. Therefore, these operators are not Hermitian, nor is the Hamiltonian operator built from them. In the present paper, we propose a position deformation of Heisenberg algebra with both maximal length and minimal momentum uncertainties. By using a pseudo-similarity transformation to the non-Hermitian operators, we prove their Hermiticity with a suitable positive-definite pseudo-metric operator. We then construct Hilbert space representations associated with these pseudo-Hermitian operators. Finally, we study the eigenvalue problem of a free particle in this deformed space and we show that this deformation curved the quantum levels allowing particles to jump from one state to another with low energy transitions.

On the pseudo hermiticity and q-deformation

Hafida Moulla, N. Mebarki, Ilhem Leghrib

Abstract The non hermiticity of the Hamiltonian is shown to be generated from the q-deformation of the algebra. As an example the q-deformed harmonic oscillator is investigated within the leading order approximation in the pseudo Hermitian perturbation theory. A generalized form of the metric is constructed. The spectrum as well as eigenstates of the system are derived explicitly.. Some applications and illustrations in q-deformed quantum statistical mechanics are also discussed.

DEFORMED HARMONIC OSCILLATOR FOR NON-HERMITIAN OPERATOR AND THE BEHAVIOR OF PT AND CPT SYMMETRIES

A. D. Jannussis, Kostas Vlachos, V. Papatheou +1 more

In the present paper we study the deformed harmonic oscillator for the non-Hermitian operator [Formula: see text] where λ,θ are real positive parameters, since the parameters α,β,m are for the general case complex. For the case α=1,β=1 and mass m real, we find the eigenfunctions and eigenvalues of energy, the coherent states, the time evolution of the operators [Formula: see text] in the Heisenberg picture and the uncertainty relations. In this case the operator ℋ is Hermitian and PT-symmetric. Also for the case m complex α=1,β=1, the operator ℋ is non-Hermitian and no more PT symmetric, but CPT symmetric with real discrete positive spectrum and the CPT symmetry is preserved. In the general case α,β,m complex, for the non-Hermitian operator ℋ, we obtain complex spectrum and for the special values of the complex parameters α,β the spectrum is real discrete and positive and the CPT symmetry is preserved. The general problem of deformed oscillator for non hermitian operators can be applied to the Solid State Physics.

PSEUDO-HERMITIAN REPRESENTATION OF QUANTUM MECHANICS

ALI MOSTAFAZADEH

A diagonalizable non-Hermitian Hamiltonian having a real spectrum may be used to define a unitary quantum system, if one modifies the inner product of the Hilbert space properly. We give a comprehensive and essentially self-contained review of the basic ideas and techniques responsible for the recent developments in this subject. We provide a critical assessment of the role of the geometry of the Hilbert space in conventional quantum mechanics to reveal the basic physical principle motivating our study. We then offer a survey of the necessary mathematical tools, present their utility in establishing a lucid and precise formulation of a unitary quantum theory based on a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian, and elaborate on a number of relevant issues of fundamental importance. In particular, we discuss the role of the antilinear symmetries such as [Formula: see text], the true meaning and significance of the so-called charge operators [Formula: see text] and the [Formula: see text]-inner products, the nature of the physical observables, the equivalent description of such models using ordinary Hermitian quantum mechanics, the pertaining duality between local-non-Hermitian versus nonlocal-Hermitian descriptions of their dynamics, the corresponding classical systems, the pseudo-Hermitian canonical quantization scheme, various methods of calculating the (pseudo-) metric operators, subtleties of dealing with time-dependent quasi-Hermitian Hamiltonians and the path-integral formulation of the theory, and the structure of the state space and its ramifications for the quantum Brachistochrone problem. We also explore some concrete physical applications and manifestations of the abstract concepts and tools that have been developed in the course of this investigation. These include applications in nuclear physics, condensed matter physics, relativistic quantum mechanics and quantum field theory, quantum cosmology, electromagnetic wave propagation, open quantum systems, magnetohydrodynamics, quantum chaos and biophysics.

Hilbert space representations for Hermitian position-deformed Heisenberg algebra and path integral formulation

Thomas Katsekpor, Latévi M. Lawson, Prince K. Osei +1 more

Position deformation of a Heisenberg algebra and Hilbert space representation of both maximal length and minimal momentum uncertainties may lead to loss of Hermiticity of some operators that generate this algebra. Consequently, the Hamiltonian operator constructed from these operators is also not Hermitian. In this paper, with an appropriate positive-definite Dyson map, we establish the Hermiticity of these operators by means of a similarity transformation. We then construct Hilbert space representations associated with these Hermitian operators that generate a Hermitian Heisenberg algebra. With the help of these representations, we establish the path integral formulation of any systems in this Hermitian algebra. Finally, using the path integral of a free particle as an example, we demonstrate that the Euclidean propagator, action, and kinetic energy of this system are constrained by the standard classical mechanics limits.
