Abstract

Quantum key distribution is an effective encryption technique which can be used to perform secure quantum communication between satellite and ground stations. Quantum cryptography enhances security in various networks such as optical fibers and wireless networks. In addition to this, these networks become vulnerable in presence of high attenuation due to atmospheric effects and noise. Hence, errors occur due to decoherence. The noisy quantum channel is modeled and implemented by the redundancy-free quantum error correction scheme which provides better security and throughput efficiency as shown in simulation results.

Quantum Error Correction Technique for Quantum-Based Satellite Communication

Veenu Yadav, Deepshikha Agarwal, Krishna Kant Agarwal

QKD is performed to secure quantum communication between the ground stations and satellite. To implement the quantum channel, better security and output are required. QKDP is a successful way for satellite quantum communications for secure networks. In this paper, we discuss error correction schemes and their comparison, quantum communication procedures A, D, and M represent encoding, decoding, and performed measurement operations. A/P represents classical bit to quantum conversion. We also present the proposed model designed for a quantum channel to improve the performance of QKD protocol satellite-based communication under problem-environmental noise, adversary attacks, atmospheric turbulence.

Efficient quantum-error correction for QoS provisioning over QKD-based satellite networks

Ping Wang, Xi Zhang, Genshe Chen

Quantum cryptography is one of the most promising technologies for guaranteeing the absolute security in communications over various advanced networks, including fiber networks and wireless networks. In particular, quantum key distribution is an efficient encryption scheme on implementing secure satellite communications between satellites and ground stations. However, it faces many new challenges such as high attenuation and low polarization-preserving capability or extreme sensitivity to the environment. In order to guarantee the quality of service (QoS) provisioning of quantum communications over 3D satellite networks, we need to focus on the security problem and throughput efficiency through correcting the errors resulted from the objective and adversary influences. To overcome these problems, we model the noisy quantum channel and implement an efficient quantum error correction scheme to ensure the security and increase the quantum throughput efficiency in QKD-based satellite networks. The simulation results obtained show that our proposed efficient QEC scheme for QoS guarantee outperforms the other existing quantum error correction schemes in terms of security and the quantum throughput efficiency.

Quantum key distribution for security guarantees over QoS-driven 3D satellite networks

Ping Wang, Xi Zhang, Genshe Chen +2 more

In recent years, quantum-based communication is emerging as a new technique for ensuring secured communications because it can guarantee absolute security between two different remote entities. Quantum communication performs the transmission and exchange of quantum information among distant nodes within a network. Quantum key distribution (QKD) is a methodology for generating and distributing random encryption keys using the principles of quantum physics. In this paper, we investigate the techniques on how to efficiently use QKD in 3D satellite networks and propose an effective method to overcome its communications-distance limitations. In order to implement secured and reliable communications over wireless satellite links, we develop a free-space quantum channel model in satellite communication networks. To enlarge the communications distances over 3D satellite networks, we propose to employ the intermediate nodes to relay the unconditional keys and guarantee the Quantum Bit Error Rate (QBER) for security requirement over 3D satellite networks. We also propose the communication model for QKD security-Quality of Service (QoS) guarantee and an adaptive cooperative routing selection scheme to optimize the throughput performance of QKD-based satellite communications networks. The obtained simulation results verify our proposed schemes.

Quantum Key Distribution over FSO: Current Development and Future Perspectives

Phuc V. Trinh, Anh T. Pham, Alberto Carrasco‐Casado +1 more

Due to the recent rapid growth of computing technologies, today's encrypted information based on classical computational complexities will soon no longer remain secure. Quantum cryptography, or quantum key distribution (QKD), relying on the physical laws of quantum mechanics, stands out as a more powerful cryptographic solution that enables the secret key to be shared securely over publicly unsecured communication channels in the presence of eavesdroppers. QKD can be possibly implemented over both optical fiber and free-space optical (FSO) links. Compared to optical fiber, FSO has the immediate advantage of flexibility and cost-effectiveness in terms of infrastructure deployment. More interestingly, recent advancements in satellite communications using FSO links promise the future of a global QKD network for highly secure applications. This paper reviews the development of QKD over FSO for both terrestrial and satellite channels, which highlights the most up-to-date QKD protocols. Owing to how the information is encoded, different QKD protocols are classified into technology-focused categories, where their properties are reviewed and compared. The feasibility of current QKD protocols is then investigated with respect to its specific application scenarios for terrestrial and satellite FSO links, equipped with results from both theoretical and experimental studies. Based on the latest free-space QKD achievements, novel perspectives for future developments and challenges to enhance the secrecy performance and reduce implementation cost are then summarized and comprehensively discussed. The potential combination of QKD and physical layer cryptography for the newly emerging wireless mobile communications networks involved with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) is also introduced.

Approach of large satellites networks communications based on quantum transmissions

Skander Aris, Abderraouf Messai, Malek Benslama +1 more

At first sight, quantum key distribution (QKD) through the atmosphere (“free space”), might appear to be a very much more challenging problem than QKD with weak laser pulses in optical fiber: the transmitter and receiver must reliably acquire, point, and track each other to establish and maintain the quantum channel. We report approach development of a quantum cryptographic networks for secure space communication, including a Quantum photon source and a pulse laser source. Through that can be used to encrypt classical message, it will allow the development of global communication with unprecedented security. The essential work carried in our research paper concerns a new idea in satellites transmission whit implement of Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) algorithm based on photon encrypted code, including to reduce the telecommunication interruption risks and this will provide indeed a better free space communication quality.
