On the Classical Capacity of a Channel with Stationary Quantum Gaussian Noise

Abstract

Mathematical models of a quantum communication channel with time-continuous additive stationary Gaussian noise are considered. A proof of the coding theorem in the case of quantum Gaussian “broadband” gauge-covariant channels is proposed, which gives an expression for the classical capacity of the channel in spectral terms.

Joint Modelling of Quantum and Classical Noise over Unity Quantum Channel

Mouli Chakraborty, Harun Šiljak, Indrakshi Dey +1 more

For a continuous-input-continuous-output arbitrarily distributed quantum channel carrying classical information, the channel capacity can be computed in terms of the distribution of the channel envelope, received signal strength over a quantum propagation field and the noise spectral density. If the channel envelope is considered to be unity with unit received signal strength, the factor controlling the capacity is the noise. Quantum channel carrying classical information will suffer from the combination of classical and quantum noise. Assuming additive Gaussian-distributed classical noise and Poisson-distributed quantum noise, we formulate a hybrid noise model by deriving a joint Gaussian- Poisson distribution in this letter. For the transmitted signal, we consider the mean of signal sample space instead of considering a particular distribution and study how the maximum mutual information varies over such mean value. Capacity is estimated by maximizing the mutual information over unity channel envelope.

Capacity of quantum multiple access Gaussian channel

Shengmei Zhao, Jing Liu, 南京邮电大学信号处理与传输研究院,南京 210003

As its classical counterpart, quantum Gaussian noise is an important noise model in quantum information theory. The study of capacity of quantum Gaussian channel plays an important role in quantum communications. Based on the definition of quantum Gaussian state, the entropy of quantum Gaussian state, and Holevo bound theorem, the classical capacity of quantum Gaussian channel is given at first in the paper, where the classical capacity is defined as the capacity when only classical messages are transmitted through the quantum channel. Then, the classical capacities of quantum multiple access Gaussian channels are deduced according to the classical capacity theorem of multiple access quantum channels. For simplicity and generality,a multiple access quantum channel with two senders and one receiver is used for computation. The results can be generalized to the quantum channel with n senders and one receiver.

Hybrid Quantum Noise Model to Compute Gaussian Quantum Channel Capacity

Mouli Chakraborty, Anshu Mukherjee, Avishek Nag +1 more

Quantum information processing leverages the principles of quantum mechanics, utilizing qubits, to improve computational and communicative tasks. In this realm, the quantum channel’s capacity is pivotal in determining the efficiency and accuracy of quantum information handling, with its performance being significantly influenced by channel noise. Our study aims to establish a holistic hybrid quantum noise model to determine the quantum channel capacity. In this paper, we formulated a mathematical expression for this capacity and conducted simulations for both Gaussian and non-Gaussian inputs. A hybrid noise model is constructed by convolution of Poisson-distributed quantum noise with classical additive white Gaussian noise. We characterized the quantum-classical noise and the received signal using Gaussian Mixture Models. The maximum amount of quantum information that can be reliably transmitted over a quantum channel (per use of the channel) is determined by its capacity, and entropy and related quantities like mutual information play a role in calculating this capacity. Our formulation of quantum channel capacity is derived from the mutual information shared between the transmitter and receiver, encompassing the entropies of the signals. The quantum channel presents a higher capacity-to-signal-to-noise ratio for Gaussian inputs than non-Gaussian ones.

A Simple Heuristic Derivation of Shannon’s Formula for a Communication Channel with Continuous Variables in the Quantum Case

Igor M. Arbekov, S. N. Molotkov, I. V. Sinil’shchikov

Abstract The aim of the paper is the derivation of formulas for the capacities of a classical–quantum communication channel with Gaussian noise, which are analogs of the classical capacities and arise in many problems of quantum information theory, on a simple, heuristic and physically intuitively clear level. The classical capacity of a classical communication channel with limited frequency band and Gaussian information states diverges as noise tends to zero. In a consistent quantum consideration, the divergence is removed, which is a consequence of the fundamental physical principle of indistinguishability of particles—bosons in information states.

Strong converse for the capacity of quantum Gaussian channels

Bhaskar Roy Bardhan, Raúl García−Patrón, Mark M. Wilde +1 more

We prove that a strong converse theorem holds for the classical capacity of all phase-insensitive bosonic Gaussian channels, when imposing a maximum photon number constraint on the inputs of the channel. This class is a natural extension of classical continuous Gaussian channels, and the well studied pure-loss, thermal, additive noise, and amplifier channels are all in this class of channels. The statement of the strong converse theorem is that the probability of correctly decoding a classical message rapidly converges to zero in the limit of many channel uses if the communication rate exceeds the classical capacity. We prove this theorem by relating the success probability of any code with its rate of data transmission, the effective dimension of the channel output space, and the purity of the channel as quantified by the minimum output entropy. Our result bolsters the understanding of the classical capacity of these channels by establishing it as a sharp dividing line between possible and impossible communication rates over them.
